January 2016[edit]

Hello, I'm Callanecc. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Matt O'Brien, but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 12:26, 31 January 2016 (UTC)hi call an that is perfectly understandable - I am working on a reference - apologies for any inconvenience[reply]

There are issues with presenting content with the correct amount of detail. One game should not dominate a referees career, no matter how bad some people think he was. In general we look for some comment from the IRB before putting criticism into a referees article. Otherwise every referee article would consist of lots of criticism, because they get it after most games even when it is undeserved. If you disagree please discuss it on the talk page at Matt O'Brien. AIRcorn (talk) 08:48, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have started a discussion at the talk page Talk:Matt O'Brien#Sevens Final in Wellington, where it is more public. Unfortunately you have got me just as I was about to knock off for the night so I won't be able to respond properly until tomorrow. TheMightyPeanut is a good editor, who is very familiar with rugby in South Africa, and may be able to help. As to Barnes and Jourbert, if you look at their talk pages I worked hard to keep the criticism in perspective for both those refs, and every other referee on here. In the end it comes down to consensus and both of them were defended (or in Jourberts case not defended) by the IRB and that pushed the incident into notablity territory. Still the mentions of the incidents are minimal relative to the other information, as they should be, and neutrally written. For comparisons also look at Alain Rollands article, where it was decided that the criticism he received was not worth mentioning. At the talk page you will need to present sources that show this needs mentioning, not just someone generally complaining about referees. Also WP:BLP applies, which just means we are a lot stricter on what can go into articles on living people. AIRcorn (talk) 09:32, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
