ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Scríobhaí. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pat Ahern[edit]

People are disambiguated on Wikipedia by general occupation, not by one specific organization that they happen to have been associated with — so "Siamsa Tire" is an entirely inappropriate disambiguator. I'm not wedded to "director", so it can be moved to another title if there's another occupational term that's a better fit, but whatever title is used it has to be a general occupational term for the type of work he does, and not the name of one specific organization he happens to have been involved in. Bearcat (talk) 16:10, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the ultra-quick response. What you say makes total sense. Would 'traditional Irish musician' fit? If so, could you ever change it for me? Many thanks Scríobhaí (talk) 16:18, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Our rule is to always go with the simplest possible title, so we don't make a disambiguator any longer or more prolix than the bare minimum that's required to give him a unique page title. So just "musician" would be enough — the only reason for the disambiguator to be any longer than just the word "musician" alone would be if there were other musicians named Pat Ahern who thus needed even more detail (like nationality or genre) to distinguish them.
