Robust optimization[edit]

Hello. You created the article Robust optimization, copying it from the Mathematical Programming Glossary. Indeed, you link to http://glossary.computing.society.informs.org/ at the end of the article. Unfortunately, INFORMS claims copyright on the Glossary. Unless they are willing to release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, we cannot use the text in Wikipedia; see Wikipedia:Copyrights for details. I appreciate your efforts to help, but we have to respect the moral rights of INFORMS and obey the law.

If you can, please explain the concept of robust optimization in your own words, referring to the MP Glossary and other sources for guidance. Otherwise, we will have to delete the article.

Let me know if anything is unclear. Yours, Jitse Niesen (talk) 05:37, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

========
I have sent an email to MP Glossary maintainer. Please, delete the entry if you have not received a reply from me within Wikipedia's one week Copyright Infringement "Grace Period" (if I understood it correctly). I am Wiki newbie anyways, and it is gonna take me some time to do it right.

[[Sdudah 13:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC)]][reply]

I have contacted the MP Glossary maintainer, and here is his reply:
As long as the MPG is cited, it is more than appropriate.

Take care, Al

That's marvellous, thanks for your effort. Could you please forward Allen's reply as described at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed? You can then remove the text of the email here if you wish.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that the work is done. Entries in the MP Glossary are very concise and they assume quite a bit of background knowledge, while Wikipedia articles should be accessible to the widest possible audience. I made a small edit to show what I'm thinking of; please have a look at the diff. To place an article in the optimization category, use [[Category:Optimization]] and not {[Category:Optimization}} .

Do ask me if anything is unclear. I know that it takes a while to learn the basic things, and ages to learn the details. And don't worry too much about making mistakes; they'll usually be noticed and corrected.

Thanks again, Jitse Niesen (talk) 02:58, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Style tips[edit]

Hi. Just a few notes about style.

  • The names of the authors should not be all capitals, so "and Croess" instead of "AND CROES".
  • There should not be more than one space between paragraphs (wikicode is not html, if you hit the "Return" key several times, you will see a lot of empty space in an article)
  • The "References" section should be after "See also".

These are small things, but I thought I'd let you know. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your messages to Oleg and Jitse[edit]

Messages should be placed at the BOTTOM of the section to which you are responding. Or if yours is a comment on a new subject, it should be made a new section at the bottom of the entire talk page. Use of the "+" tab (between "edit this page" and "history" at the top) is recommended for creating new sections. JRSpriggs 09:02, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Trade documentation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 00:50, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would be the user requesting deletion. This article is a candidate for speedy deletion, under "Criteria for Speedy Deletion: A3" (found here). The exact text is as follows:

3. No content whatsoever. Any article consisting only of links elsewhere (including hyperlinks, category tags and "see also" sections), a rephrasing of the title, and/or attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title. This does not include disambiguation pages.

As you may see, your article [[Trade documentation falls under that category. If you can expand the article to become a stub, please do so. Also, if you feel the page should not be deleted, you may ad the following text to the article to contest the deletion:

License tagging for Image:Termination.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Termination.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Next Big Thing[edit]

Why did you do this edit? That was not a spam link at all. If someone types in "next big thing", expecting to find the Vince Gill album, I'm sure they'd appreciate directions to the article on that album. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 05:00, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:ODMA.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ODMA.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

AfD nomination of At-risk students[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is At-risk students. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/At-risk students. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:17, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sdudah! I nominated the article for deletion. Please follow the above link for disussion, if you like.

I think that an article on ordinal optimization would be a great addition to Wikipedia. However, IMHO, your article needs more work before it is ready for Wikipedia.

Sincerely, Kiefer.Wolfowitz (talk) 21:08, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WITHDRAW NOMINATION: I tried to save the article by adding context, a lead, references to reliable sources, etc. Kiefer.Wolfowitz (talk) 22:13, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lesson Plan[edit]

Noticed you said in the lesson plan talk page it'd be nice if there was an example lesson. I have some on Wikiversity you could use like this one; and/or this one from my CELTA training but I think it'd be improper of me to put it there myself. --Charles Jeffrey Danoff 17:28, 17 May 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charles Jeffrey Danoff (talkcontribs)

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Box.PNG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article CALM M5 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (software) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
