Learning[edit]

Nice to see someone interested in learning the ropes. All too often I see new editors who decide they already know the rules. In particular, 'reliable source', 'notability', and 'synthesis' have very specific definitions on Wikipedia that people love to ignore. If you have any questions, give me a shout with a {{TB}} template.

Thanks! SeanBrockest (talk) 18:36, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Jonverve[edit]

This is my first time using a TB template, hope it works.

When you go into your preferences, you've got your signature linked to /sig . What do you actually put in the signature box to link the 4~'s to /sig ? SeanBrockest (talk) 20:37, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This question isn't for me, but as a talkpage stalker, I'll answer it the best I can.
You're not actually supposed to use a template as your signature, for a number of reasons- not the least of which being that if someone changes the template your signature is linked to, it changes every instance of your signature on every page you've ever signed.
If you're not using transclusion and instead using substitution, then there's really no reason to use a template instead of the signature box under Preferences (besides skirting the 255-character limit, which is in itself a no-no- very long sigs create a huge lump of text on the page when someone goes to edit it).
Fret not, you have a wide range of options as far as sigs go without breaking any rules (which are posted at WP:SIG). Most, if not all, HTML tags will function. You can use the WP:SANDBOX to test signatures before you commit to them in your Preferences, or you can even just use the Preview function on any page. --King Öomie 22:12, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Question on the Google Talk Page[edit]

Hey, this is in response to your inquiry on the Google article. Feel free to put in whatever information you have, and next time don't bother to ask. You'll find that in order to get things done around here, you just need to be bold and do it. In fact, if you have not already seen it, Wikipedia has a policy on it (WP:BOLD). I wrote a little more on Talk:Google, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. (Also, just in case you reply to this message, it's my general policy that if I contact you on your talk page, you reply on your talk page. So if you write back, do it here, and just place the {{Talkback}} template on my talk page.) — Parent5446 (message email) 05:37, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Dread pirate Roberts Spam[edit]

That was actually me....I realized that it could be perceived as spam, but I thought that the parody idea of DPR as a franchise would be notable, and I couldn't find any linkable references other than the shirt manufacturers themselves. So, chalk that up to my error. Before I consider re-posting that info, I'll try to find some outside reference to the shirts on a non-commercial site first. -- Pennyforth (talk) 15:15, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
