Fixup on Spoon River College

As requested on User talk:Closeapple#Fixup on Spoon River College Article, I took another run at Spoon River College and did some minor wording cleanups; I also added publisher and location on a few of the citations. --Closeapple (talk) 23:54, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

User:IlliniGradResearch/Spoon River College

I have deleted this page per your request. For future reference MfD is not needed for deletion of pages where you are the only editor, you used the {{db-userreq}} template correctly after which is all that needs to be done. Let me know if you have any questions. Chillum 15:45, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the assist: I will make sure to do that next time. IlliniGradResearch (talk) 15:49, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Bart Sibrel

I took exception to the fact that the unpleasant 173.170.157.188 character has no interest in Bart Sibrel or knowledge of Bart Sibrel, but instead followed me around and edited article Bart Sibrel for the sole and exclusive purpose of exacting some kind of petty vindictive little revenge against me for a dispute he has against my edits on a completely separate and unrelated article. It was pure Wiki-stalking in its most obnoxious form. However, the claimed issues seem to be mostly resolved, thanks. AnonMoos (talk) 14:45, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: Semi-Protect SAE Page

Here's what I see with the article. I've put invitations for discussion in no fewer than three places, including the talk pages for the SAE article and the fraternity/sorority project page. There's also an invitation in the warning before the paragraph in question. None of the IPs have taken the invitation. If they persist in the conduct, then yes, I support semi-protection (no edits by IPs or new accounts).

I'm interested to see what happens today with school back after the Thanksgiving break. If that brings on a flurry of removal by IPs, then I support semi-protection—or would semi-protect it myself if it were a lot of rapid-fire removals. —C.Fred (talk) 16:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: DKY for Spoon River College

I replied at T:TDYK. Materialscientist (talk) 05:50, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm getting distracted by various tasks. It might be more efficient to talk here. ALT3 sounds more attractive, but upon quick look it doesn't seem correct: ref. 25 says that Joliet Junior College and Peoria’s Illinois Central College provide campus housing and there is no mentioning of Spoon River (not to mention about its uniqueness or priority in that matter), either in ref. 24 or 25. I am probably missing something? Materialscientist (talk) 06:50, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I replied at T:TDYK (again sorry for delays) and copy the reply here, "Sorry for being .. me. I still do not observe a valid reference for any hook. Refs. 24-26 don't seem to talk about this college and don't say how many offer housing." ALT4 seems the easiest to support by refs. Materialscientist (talk) 05:54, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
I personally find alt6 too plain and suggest finding references to support former hooks. The law part is Ok, I just don't see refs on colleges offering houses. Ref. 25 says about 2 other colleges, not the Spoon River College, and doesn't mention how many such colleges exist. Materialscientist (talk) 06:22, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
I've done all the source-checking and tweaking on that SRC article that I'm going to have time for this evening. It's clear that you have a lot of good information and a lot of sources -- and I know from my own experience that it's sometimes hard to keep info and sources properly sorted when you are typing in this little Wikipedia edit window, and having to fuss with Wikipedia formatting. I have a hunch that you are feeling stress about the DYK thing, which might be making it harder to evaluate the article right now. It might be good for you to sleep on this and try to look at it in the morning with "fresh eyes".
On the TT:DYK page, you said: "With regard to the ref's, there are two refs I had to locate in the university archives because they were not online. However, I could scan them and upload them for verification." WP:V does not require all sources to be available online -- old-fashioned print is also perfectly acceptable, as long as other editors feel that they can assume in good faith that the offline sources are cited correctly. Unfortunately, in this case several of us found multiple citations to online sources that didn't support the statements they were associated with, so we became extra-cautious and we're looking for extra assurance... Regarding materials you found in the archives, though, I caution you that these are likely to be primary sources -- and Wikipedia is very cautious about using primary sources for verifiability. Primary sources can be invaluable for confirming dates, names and other details, but they tend not to provide the context that a secondary or tertiary source provides (and that is needed for writing good encyclopedia articles). Thus (to give one hypothetical example), a local newspaper article looking back on the first year of a new SRC program generally is a much better source for writing about that program than an official SRC document with 100 pages of compendious details on the purpose, design, and rules of the program.
You also asked: "Is the question whether housing is offered at all, or the statement regarding it being contrary to state law?" I think that particular question has been answered for you by now, but the more general issue is that when an article sentence contains very specific details (such as the month, day and year when a particular event occurred) or claims some unique status ("the first", 'the only," "a unique program", or even something a little bit more vague, like "one of the only"), that factual statement had better be clearly and explicitly substantiated by the source cited. --Orlady (talk) 04:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Could you reply to the comment by Orlady at T:TDYK. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 03:27, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Spoon River College

Updated DYK query On December 4, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Spoon River College, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thank you

A belated thanks for the barnstar related to work on Spoon River College and related articles. I was glad to get involved. In general, I get more satisfaction from rolling up my sleeves and trying to improve things than I do from giving people messages about "rules" (but time constraints often limit all of us to the latter...). I hope that your experience with that article will help make your future contributions go well. Cheers! --Orlady (talk) 03:27, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

More leaked ritual manuals

Greetings! We've talked on Talk:Sigma Alpha Epsilon about the ritual manual for SAE on Wikileaks.

Just to let you know, somebody put a link to the manual for Sigma Phi Epsilon on that article today. To add a wrinkle to this one, SPE's attorney sent Wikileaks a takedown notice, claiming that the posting infringes on SPE's copyrights over the manual. (Wikileaks also has the takedown notice on their site.) Accordingly, after looking at the guidelines, this triggers WP:ELNEVER for contributory infringement.

Long story short, it looks like we can link to SAE's alleged manual because it might not be authentic, but because SPE has admitted that the leak is genuine (or at least is a copyrighted work of the fraternity), we can't link to it. Feel free to let me know what you think when your head stops spinning too. :) —C.Fred (talk) 07:36, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Maywood

I see no problem in adding more info about the current chaos in Maywood. Article is too long and would need to be highly edited and reworded. Thanks for you efforts! P.S. Please put new questions in New section at bottom of page. I didn't see your question until tonight! Happy Editing! DocOfSoc (talk) 09:31, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Richland Community College

I noticed that you have created User:SemperDoctus/Richland Community College. It looks good enough to exist as at least a stub article in the main article space. Any objections to having it moved into place? I think it's the only college district in Illinois left redlinked on Wikipedia. --Closeapple (talk) 23:52, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
