Control copyright icon Hello Sensris! Your additions to Vijayakanth have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 04:13, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for January 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Gautami, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dharma Durai. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

March 2023[edit]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Raai Laxmi, you may be blocked from editing. Archer1234 (t·c) 15:09, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As a follow up, I have been reviewing your edits on March 7, 2023, and many add claims without citing any published reliable source(s) or are not supported by the sources that are cited. You need to stop doing edits like that. You have been previously blocked for this. If you continue, you may find you will be blocked again, perhaps indefinitely. I am going through each one on that date and reverting or correcting ones that have sourcing or other defects. If you self-revert your own edits, that would be a good sign that you see and understand the problems with them and will work to correct them. Please be careful with your future editing. If you have any questions, you can ask me on my talk page or you can ask at The Teahouse. — Archer1234 (t·c) 16:48, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into an article or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Suman (actor). Archer1234 (t·c) 17:16, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Suman (actor). This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 15:25, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits to Suman (actor) have added claims without citing published reliable source(s) or that use unreliable sources. For example, this edit and this edit both use nettv4u.com, which is on the list of unreliable sources at WP:ICTFSOURCES. Similarly, this edit uses filmibeat.com, which is also on that same list of unreliable sources.
I am going to remove those citations and the claims to which they are attached (or tag them with {{citation needed}} templates. If you want to discuss this further, I am open to continuing the discussion here, at Talk:Suman (actor) or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film/Indian cinema task force. However, if you reinstate them or continue to use these and other unreliable sources (especially those identified as unreliable at WP:RSP and at WP:ICTFSOURCES) at Suman or other articles, then I will report your editing behavior to administrators for review and assessment.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 15:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
then i add content on suman actor citing reliable sources? THANKS Sensris (talk) 20:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Citing reliable sources is required, although there are many other policies, guidelines and standards that must be followed including WP:NPOV, WP:WEIGHT, WP:NOTCATALOG, and many others.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 21:00, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I added content in the Suman actor page. thanks Sensris (talk) 22:52, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Much better, but two issues:
  1. You are adding bare URLs. That is not good. Read #What is wrong with bare URLs? to learn why. You need to add full citations. Please read, study, and follow the guidance in WP:Citing sources to learn how to add full citations.
  2. The last source you added at Suman (actor) (ghgossip.com) is not reliable. Gossip and tabloid sources are not reliable (see WP:BLPGOSSIP. Please read, study and follow the guidance in Wikipedia:Reliable sources and WP:BLPSOURCES.
Biographies of living persons are given extra scrutiny. The lead section at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons is a good summary of why this is so. You should read it and take care to keep it in mind when you are asserting claims in biographies.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, you can ask me on my talk page or you can ask at The Teahouse where experienced editors can offer you advice and guidance. Happy Editing.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 23:11, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sensris. Thank you for providing the requested citation in P. Sai Kumar. However, you continue to add citations as bare URLs and this is not good. Would you explain why you are not filling out the full citation?  — Archer1234 (t·c) 22:14, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sensris. I noticed this recent edit to Kalairani where the edit that filled out a reference was reverted, but there was no explanation given in the edit summary. The original edit should have been uncontroversial, but perhaps I made a mistake or missed some defect that you found. Would you clarify? Thank.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 21:31, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sensris. This edit to J._Livingston with the explanation "Archer1234 why you search problemes, Archer1234 you don' t see, i put a new movie Kannitheevu why delete" confuses me. Would you explain further which parts of the edit you reverted were incorrect or went against Wikipedia policies or guidelines? Thanks.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 22:11, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sensris, the reason you gave, "you don' t see, i put a new movie Kannitheevu why delete" for this edit to Aadukalam Naren does not justify reverting six policy-based and guideline-based edits. If the explanation did not make sense to you or was too opaque or you felt it did not apply or that I made a mistake, then you should have started a discussion on my talk page or at Talk:Aadukalam Naren asking for clarification. Do not communicate to another editor through the edit summary.

In this case, I did see that you added a new movie Kannitheevu. I removed it for the reason given in the edit summary of this edit:

→‎Tamil films: remove unsourced and unlinked 2023 works. Per WP:FILMOGRAPHY: Do not add future projects until filming has begun as verified by a reliable source.

In other words, you did not cite published reliable source(s) to verify that Aadukalam Naren is in Kannitheevu. I also removed other 2023 films that did not have citations.

Verifiability

Verifiability is one of the core content policies of Wikipedia. It reads, in part:

All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports[a] the contribution.[b]

It goes on to say: "any problems with the text or sourcing should be fixed before the material is added back".

How to deal with contentious issues

Sensris, you are a fairly new editor on English Wikipedia (9 months, ~1500 edits). I understand it is hard for new editors to know all the relevant policies and guidelines, so it can be very frustrating when an edit gets reverted, or your contributions removed. I get it. I was there once myself. I found it very frustrating, and I was tempted to lash out or to edit-war with other editors. But that would not have been a positive and helpful response and it risked my being blocked from editing. So, I am assuming good faithe that you responded the way you did out without adequate understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and without understanding how best to respond to a situation like this.

Wikipedia always needs new editors and so your contributions are valued. My advice to you is that when you do not understand why something has happened or think that someone has made a mistake, communicate with the other editor(s) involved or ask for advice at The Teahouse. I have vound that having patience is important when interacting with other editors over contentious matters.

Concluding point

Unless you want to discuss the particular change you wanted to make to Aadukalam Naren, I ask that you self-revert your edit to restore it back to the previous version. If you have found a published reliable source to verify that Aadukalam Naren is in Kannitheevu, then self-revert first, and then, in a separate edit, add in your source. This would be a good-faith sign on your part that you understand better how to deal with contentious matters and that you seek to work constructively and collaboratively in the future. If you have any questions for me, let me know. Thank you for helping to build a better encyclopedia here at Wikipedia.

Notes

  1. ^ A source "directly supports" a given piece of material if the information is present explicitly in the source so that using this source to support the material is not a violation of Wikipedia:No original research. The location of any citation—including whether one is present in the article at all—is unrelated to whether a source directly supports the material. For questions about where and how to place citations, see Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section § Citations, etc.
  2. ^ Once an editor has provided any source they believe, in good faith, to be sufficient, then any editor who later removes the material must articulate specific problems that would justify its exclusion from Wikipedia (e.g. why the source is unreliable; the source does not support the claim; undue emphasis; unencyclopedic content; etc.). If necessary, all editors are then expected to help achieve consensus, and any problems with the text or sourcing should be fixed before the material is added back.
