Conflict of Interest[edit]

Hi there, can you please explain if you might have a conflict of interest as it pertains to Biswanath Rath? I don't know if you know him or what, but if you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing that article. I'm very concerned that the article is—how do I put this nicely—an interesting catalog of one man's extraordinary accomplishments in the world of film festival submissions, and it really comes off as an advertisement. Note also, that if you are being paid or enriched in some way to edit this article, you must disclose that per WP:PAID, along with who your employer is, who your client is, and any other relevant details.

I'm hoping for some clarification, please as otherwise I'm likely to bring this up at the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard. You should probably also read WP:FILMCRITICLIST, as it directly relates to the bulk of the content that is in the article, specifically this part: Awards included in lists should have a Wikipedia article to demonstrate notability. Because of the proliferation of film festivals and "award mills", festival awards should be added with discretion, with inclusion subject to consensus. Awards bestowed by web-only entities are not included." I strongly doubt that most of those festival submissions/selections/awards would endure any serious community scrutiny. I will also be looking into whether or not the subject's notability has properly been established in the article. Thank you and regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:51, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: Dear Cyphoidbomb

Hope you are coping well with the ongoing pandemic. First of all, thank you so much for your feedback and message. I really appreciate your suggestions and guidance regarding the wiki rules. I would like to clarify few things.

1) To gain knowledge about Wikipedia's writer/editors world, I have read many articles related to Wikipedia rules in general and film personalities/filmography in specific. I wanted to contribute to Wikipedia by writing about a variety of topics (not just film personalities). However I must agree that even in spite of many observations and sincere attempts at learning wiki rules, I may not have been able to write/edit articles as per the guidelines/rules because of my inability to fully comprehend few rules. Probably, that's the reason, my article (as mentioned by you) may be looking like an advertisement. Today, I am really thankful to you for pointing out the specific issues and guiding by referring specific pages which I must visit to get a better understanding of the rules about filmography, notability of film festivals etc. I have started reading/understanding these articles/pages and will soon start editing the page of Biswanath Rath accordingly.

2) Regarding Conflict of Interest, again, you have raised a very valid question. However I would like to clarify that there is absolutely no conflict of interest. I don’t know him in any way. Neither I am being paid or enriched in any way to edit this article. I know ABOUT Biswanath Rath purely based on my own research in Web/Internet/Print, Digital, Electronic Media/Social Media etc about him. Based on his notability in his professional domain, I chose to write/edit/build this article as my first wiki article.

I hail from Odisha and I aspire to write about Odisha’s Art, Culture, Tradition, Heritage, Notable personalities etc. Although I have researched about lots of topic, subject, unfortunately, I have not been able to write about any of them owing to my personal/professional commitments as well as fear of (unintentionally) not following the wiki rules/guidelines. Whenever time permitted, I found it easier to edit the one article I have created based on the available info in Internet/Media. I really hope, with such sincere feedback, suggestion and guidance of expert contributors like you, I will gradually gain more confidence about wiki-writing and will be able to start writing about other topics.

Regarding the WP:FILMCRITICLIST (i.e. Manual of Style/Film) you have referred, I went through it and have got a much better clarity about awards/film festivals. Will soon start editing Biswanath Rath’s page accordingly. Again, the page would need your strictest review in order to ensure compliance with wiki rules and guidelines.

Tons of thanks and Regards
