A tag has been placed on Metcalfe's Food Company, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Metcalfe's Food Company‎[edit]

The page can't be reworded any further otherwise it will compromise the description of what the company does — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sgarcia113 (talkcontribs)

Please have a read of WP:Conflict of interest: it would be best if you wait for someone not connected with the company to write about it. If it's notable, then someone will eventually. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 19:04, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... 1) it is not advertising the company. It is merely a summary of what the company does and what products it sells. 2) It is not a copyright infringement. The owners of Company have confirmed that [Metcalfe's Food Company Ltd is the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of www.metcalfesfood.com and they are happy to grant anyone to use the work under the free license "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0"

Moved it[edit]

It's at User:Sgarcia113/Metcalfe's Food Company. It does still need better referencing to reliable independent sources. The one given doesn't really show notability - it's more a report of a press release. Contact one of the editors I listed on my talk page for help. I'll contact one of our copyright people to see how the permission thing gets added to the article talk page - I've never had anyone license their text before! Peridon (talk) 12:05, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

VernoWhitney has found the relevant thing and added it to the talk page. As he's concerned about it sounding a bit promotional, I'd advise contacting one of the girls for getting it sorted and referenced. Peridon (talk) 19:28, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About Metcalfe's[edit]

Hello, and thanks for your note on your talk page! I'm sorry to say, I took a look at your article and I have serious doubts whether there is any place for this company on Wikipedia. The problem isn't with the wording of the article; it could be rewritten into proper encyclopedic shape if the subject was notable, as Wikipedia defines it. But IMO it isn't. That's a basic Wikipedia requirement for any subject to have an article here; you can read the requirements at WP:N, or more specifically for a company at WP:CORP. In order for a subject to be "notable" it must have been written about by multiple independent reliable sources - not just the company's web page, and not just a press-release-style notice in a trade magazine, but actual writeups and reviews and such in major newspapers, magazines, or equivalent - sources that research the information for themselves, fact-check it, have it written up by their own in-house reporters, and publish it. But when I went looking for such coverage about this company in the Google News Archive, I found nothing. The same thing happened when I searched for products like Metcalfe's topcorn.

However, I discovered that there is some coverage for itsu, which already has a Wikipedia article, located here: Itsu. That article has a lot of problems but it might be salvageable. I would suggest you forget about trying to create an article about Metcalfe's Food Company, and instead work on expanding and improving the article Itsu. I can help you with that. Good luck! --MelanieN (talk) 01:09, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BTW Peridon has suggested several times that you learn to sign your posts. You do that by typing four tildes ~ (capitalize the top left key on your keyboard, right under the "escape" key), or by clicking on the little box above the editing window that looks like part of a signature. When I type ~~~~ it comes out like this: --MelanieN (talk) 01:09, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have to second that I don't think that there's enough coverage for an article on this company. What I can recommend though, is that an article on Julian Metcalfe would probably pass WP:GNG. I did a search on his name and brought up several sources that would help show notability for an overall article on him. You could then have a section about the businesses he's run, one of which would be Metcalfe's Food Company. Here are some of the sources I've found: [1], [2], [3] I can't guarantee that there's enough out there for an article on him, but so far it looks very likely that he'd pass.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:33, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Writing about Itsu and related companies[edit]

Hello, Sgarcia113. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Itsu, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.--McGeddon (talk) 14:52, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

After being careful to follow due process in the past, you seem to have returned to directly creating and editing articles about a company you have a conflict of interest with. Please read WP:COIADVICE before editing any such articles again. --McGeddon (talk) 19:20, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
