Overview

Not necessary but this is the overview I had in mind:
1.) Make a group

• Hydro ones okay but the only good info im getting is from their website, though there probably is plenty out there and I havent looked thoroughly enough. Can you share some sectional information about hydro one? (e.g.) History, Geographical Location, Awards, Goals/Objectives, Employees and Staff. Also, can you just copy and paste from any site or patch up sites altogether, I visited a site that copied and pasted a whole paragraph from a website and they just cited it and wiki hasnt taken it down. - I just read through the article, my pending edits weren't made and I've yet to contribute my major edit -- I guess im responsible for that since i wanted to avoid re-using things you guys used. - P.S. there are a lot of great sources out there but is (in my opinion) beyond undergrad comprehension to efficiently re-edit, moreover, with the time we have we can't get through all of them. That aside, all the basic and general information that is likely to be what an anonymous browser looks for are already in their shortest form, meaning that you can copy and paste the paragraphs and cite them but if you remove words or write them in another format, it would provide confusion or a loss of information. Yet I'm not sure if i can just actually leave them as is, some wiki articles do that but they aren't exactly being marked by someone. Cheers to Bouchecl's annual report suggestion, probably the best 'uncommon' source we have but nonetheless still within hydro one's website. - <sigh> I know I said I'll stop working on the sandbox 10 hours ago but yea I still can't get it off my mind, I've been trying to avoid scavenging information from their website b/c wikipedia says "Please do not copy and paste from copyrighted websites – only public domain resources can be copied without permission." and I have no idea what copyrighted sites are. Besides, most of our relevant information came from the parent website already. The only things I can change from their material are synonym terms and their promotional tone. Aside from that, as I mentioned earlier, expect confusion or loss of general descriptive information. If I want to cut down one whole paragraph into at least 3 grammatically correct sentences without copying and pasting, I need at least 3 sources of new and relevant information to work with.Niccolo.jacinto (talk) 23:03, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Nishani,

Since Hydro One is on my watchlist, I've noticed your U of T class was working on updating the page as part of a classroom assignment. So I was curious and I checked your sandbox and read the work your team has done so far. There are some issues with the lead section, where it is stated that the scope of the companyis limited to remote communities in Northern Ontario, which is not correct.

As stated on their web site, Hydro One is a holding company with four subsidiaries, the largest being Hydro One Networks. They operate 97% of the high voltage transmission grid throughout Ontario and they also serve 1.3 million customers in rural areas across the province in their capacity as Ontario's largest distribution utility. Service to First Nations communities (through their subsidiary Hydro One Remotes) is only a small part of this $5.1 B business. If you need some help focusing on important issues, check similar articles for inspiration, such as Manitoba Hydro, NB Power or Hydro-Québec (one of mine). No problem. I read the discussions you had with your teammates and the problems you had locating sources for the article. I encountered the same problem when I wrote a stub for the company in the French Wikipedia. From my own experience working on Hydro-Québec, I would suggest a few potential sources:

• Peer-reviewed articles (in JSTOR, Wiley, Elsevier, etc...) on the Ontario electricity system, for an historical perspective on the collapse of Ontario Hydro and the creation of separate entities: the IMO (called ISEO these days), OPG, Hydro One and OEFC, ca. 1999-2000. A visit to the campus library might also be in order for dead-tree books;
• Check the newspaper articles databases (the Toronto Star seems to have good coverage of the electricity business in Ontario);
• Annual reports. Watch out for the tone, they're promotional, but for hard and up-to-the-minute numbers they're hard to beat;
• Last (if you have time, it's time consuming), read the company's filings at the Ontario Energy Board.
