Introduction: The Artemist[edit]
The Artemist is an Indian Art Consultancy firm which provides custom-made services related to any form of art. It is owned by artist and art curator Ms. Aradhana Dalmia, trained at some of the world’s most renowned colleges like Chelsea College of Art and Design, London; Manchester School of Art, Manchester; and Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York. It was founded in the year 2014 in the City of Joy, Kolkata.
Background[edit]
‘Artem’ means Art in Latin and ‘Artemist’ is the maker of art. Hence, The Artemist aims at broadening the scope of work within the creative field because they believe that anything one can imagine is possible. Very talented Aradhana Dalmia returned to India in the year 2013 to find a gap between artists and art buyers. Other than setting up her own studio and putting up exhibitions of her artwork, she wanted to create a space for art in her city. West Bengal being an art lovers’ paradise, it nestles some of the oldest art galleries and also the best art colleges. People are genuinely fond of art and its different forms. She felt the need of bridging this gap and providing that perfect piece of art to every client, by creating a network of artists and art lovers. Her endeavour gave birth to The Artemist in 2014, providing a one stop solution to the art community. It manages a client’s overall needs by providing expert advice in terms of what kind of art is required in a particular space, budgeting for it, managing and procuring the artwork and every little help an art buyer might need.
The main idea behind Artemist was to commission artwork which did not exist in India then. There were brilliant artists and there was demand for a varied range of artwork, but there was no platform to make these two meet. Through Artemist, the vision is made clearer for both the parties making art readily available in the market.
Company’s Vision[edit]
Artemist is trying to give a platform to upcoming artists by commissioning their work and also providing an in-house studio to take out their creative being. Events and workshops are organized all round the year providing a podium to acknowledge the artists and create awareness among people about the world of art and its beauty.
Art is generally purchased for beautification of house or office, gifting purpose and for investment, the latter being a rare case in India. Making it an experience and not just a purchase is what counts. There is consultancy involved in almost every industry, be it real estate, stock market, or manufacturing units. Art consultancy has not been heard about in India mostly because people are unaware about it, but with Artemist, there is exposure being given in this field making every piece of art worth the buy.
Having an adequate taste for art and understanding the need for its uniqueness, the founder is able to satisfy her clients. In accordance with the needs of the art buyer along with the taste, budget, style and media they desire, a unique piece of artwork is brought to them. Customer delight and providing individualistic experience are said to be of utmost priority to them. The Artemist was formed with a dual purpose of managing exemplary commissions and offering a carefully curated art collection, for the client’s needs.
Portfolio[edit]
The Artemist collaborates with its stakeholders i.e. artists, art galleries and its customers to have their business running. Their work involves Art Commissioning, Art Therapy Workshops, Art Restoration, Art Valuation, Art Insurance and Art Gifting.
Clients reach out to them over social media or phone call to set up consequent meetings. By understanding their prerequisites, Artemist takes up consultancy for their art requirement. They use different mediums of art like paintings, sculptures, installations, print, etching, photography, pottery and leather work to meet their customers’ needs. Their work portfolio also includes customization of portraits, undertaking art camps, art related events and collaborating for photography and art therapy workshops.
In-house Artwork[edit]
Aradhana’s forte being oil paint on canvas, she has worked on project basis where the predominant theme has been India. With a pinch of pop and neon, her paintings have a modern touch to it. Her series “The Luminous” is what brought her laurels in 2017. It is an innovative series of chromatic explosion paintings conceptualized on the bird’s eye view perspective. What makes this series more interesting is the medium which is used, glow-in-the-dark oil paint. It is a first of its kind in the world- a mix of Luminescent, Ultra-Pop and Chromatic explosion of various colors. Generally these paints are made with acrylic colours, but she has used oil paint to make her own glow-in-the-dark paints to give a different meaning to it under light and in darkness. These paints give life to the paintings under UV lights. The various paintings that form a part of the series are Prismatic Focus, Soaring Benares, Triangularity, Bio Luminescent and Crimson Disc.
A hand painted portrait of superstar Shah Rukh Khan and son Abram was gifted to them by Team Artemist on the 13th of May, 2017 at ITC Sonar, Kolkata.
Clientele[edit]
They have clients who come to them for residential as well as commercial needs. Some of the projects they have been associated with are KAHM Tower, Monkey Bar, Warren Tea, The Fifth Element, Wokaholics and Ommyra. A Paresh Maity painting was also commissioned by them for one of their clients.
Art can be for a purpose, a cause or even just to beautify a space. They have used an interesting piece of artwork, a world map painting for an office cabin which can be used as a shelf, adding utility to the piece. They have also undertaken a quirky mural at Monkey Bar portraying the hustle and bustle of the City of Joy. To add light to the ‘Missing Girls’ Project in Kolkata, The Artemist has done their bit by painting the walls outside the German Consulate.
The Artemist desires to nourish its impression Pan India in the coming future by spreading art in the lives of more and more people.
Price Range[edit]
The Artemist provides possibilities to all art buyers by having a wide range of options to choose from with all price ranges and sensibilities. According to the client brief, the budget can vary from few thousands to crores. And this completely depends on the purpose behind buying the art piece. Their charges are at par with any other gallery’s standard charges.

Being only 3 years old in the market, The Artemist as a brand has been able grow with word-of-mouth. Their website (https://www.theartemist.in/-) was launched in early 2017 which showcase its clients’ work. The Artemist has collaborated with organizations in Kolkata to conduct workshops for different age groups and it also participates in events all round the year, Style File being 2016’s success story.
