Another answer, and a general hello & Welcome to wikipedia. You asked how to go about creating an article: you do this (for an aircraft) by going to the wp:aviation#Announcements and Open tasks & click on Template:wpAVIATION creator & follow instructions. First thing you have to do is enter the artice name: do that, & a page with the generally used headings, the aircraft infobox & the specifications list box, is created. Easy. Only real problem is that you do need to make sure the aircraft isn't covered. The problem here is that, especially with early aircraft, machines can go under a variety of other names. Articles should be named according to manufacturer designation, but sometimes names are applied after the event by historians, or companies adopt different numbering systems. Its a general source of misery. Which is incidentally how I came across your editing: you added something to the Breguet Type III article (which I'm trying to improve & is on my watchlist) which was about a different aircraft with a similar name. btw when adding a referenced addition to a spec list, (which has a different ref for the existing content) if you add the ref on the same line as a numeric value, it stuffs the template parser, and loads of red text appears (frightening): the ref should be added to the |ceiling note= parameter. You're doing fine. I would not have mentioned the mistaken edit if it didn't make a useful point about being clear that you are dealing teh right machine, especially with with early stuff. I put in the bit about whereyou put the cite tag in the specs bit because one of the articles (a SPAD of some kind) Bzuk had attempted to put in the cite tag and even though he is a way more experienced editor than I am, he managed to guff it up.... nobody is perfect, nothing wrong with making the odd error as long as you learn something!TheLongTone (talk) 15:43, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that which is why i was asking about it so i could learn from it also i got two books recently from a bookfair all about planes in depth from 1914 or so to 2000 Would you be willing to help me if i get trouble inputing the stuff like I need to make a new page like i want to? No worries. As above, the basic page creating stuff is fairly easy. putting something in the problem...remeber wp has strict rules about respecting copyright, everything has to be rewritten. If you are writing an article from a brief description it's often hard to come up with a satifactory paraphrase. The way I got a grip on wiki markup code was basically by looking at the code of other pages, but you're way ahead of me on that, it took me weeks to get ref tags to work the way I wanted them to. (I do have problem caused by being a rubbish typist, & of course code is not forgiving) The most helpful are the simple ones. You can always try stuff out in your sandbox (there's a link to it at the top of your page & you can create user subpages. (problem with these is organising them so you can readily access them, best solution being to put a link to them on your main userpage.TheLongTone (talk) 19:34, 26

interesting approach in all honesty i found someone else who used the same book as mine and copyed their code for it. I meant more that i would input the technical data. I know nothing about image copyright issues, other than that the basic rule is 70 years after the creator's death, or date of publication when author not known. It's a minefield I don't want to walk into. there is a lot of stuff that is in the public domain, but basically I am more interested in aviation & other engineering technicalities than legal ones. But books should carry copyright info on the images, either below the image or at the back/front somewhere. A lot of British Crown Copyright up to quite a recent date are public domain.TheLongTone (talk) 21:13, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note that entries are placed in alphabetical order by the author (or title if no author appears), so that Angelucci would end up usually at the top of the list, alphabetically, not at the end of a bibliography. Still some problems, all associated with being a "newbie", make sure if you are adding the Angelucci reference that you do link the information back to the page in the source. By the way[edit]

Hi Shashenka; I've noticed you're adding a lot of missing ISBN numbers to references. While I think this is a good practice to get into, adding the numbers on a large scale across many articles can get quite repetitive, and is sometimes better left to people who use semi-automated tools (see Wikipedia:Tools).. then these sorts of changes can be made on a large scale with a fairly small amount of human effort. So that's just something to keep in mind; editor time is sometimes better spent on things computers can't do (like adding content to articles). Re geographical coordinates[edit]

Thank you for adding geographical coordinates to articles that lack them! One point, though. The "dim" and "scale" parameters in the {{coord}} template do essentially the same thing, so there's no reason to use both. (Doing so produces a "dim override" error message by the coordinate-checking tool here.) And the "type" parameters, such as "landmark" and "edu", set scale values that are usually appropriate for the type of feature invoved—equivalent to "scale:10000" for those two types—so there's usually no need to specify a "scale" parameter as well. It's usually a good idea to show a location in some context on a map, rather than zooming in as closely as possible, so the "scale" or "dim" parameter should usually be omitted unless the specific situation calls for a closer or wider view. Semihemidemibarnstar[edit]

If I knew how to use the Wayback Machine, this could lead to bigger things. AFHRA had web pages on every Air Division ever, but dumped them a couple of years ago. There are a lot of unmarked dead links to the old web pages -- if they were archived, too.

I tweaked the format you used on the 16th Bombardment Group article. AFHRA pages do not show an abbreviation for the ordinal, so the title of the page is "315", not "315th". --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:49, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

March Madness 2017[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
