July 2015[edit]

Hello, I'm DaHuzyBru. Your recent edit to the page Rakeem Christmas appears to have added premature information about a reported sports transaction, so I have removed it for now. The transaction is based on anonymous sources and/or awaiting an official announcement. If you believe the transaction has been completed, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:54, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Rakeem Christmas, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Please do not include information regarding teams that drafted a player or obtained draft rights until the player officially signs a contract with the team. Rumored signings are not sufficient, as per consensus at WP:NBA. Thanks! ~ RobTalk 18:41, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Shawnsak, @BU Rob13: In all fairness, Shawnsak did attempt to cite a source, but it was not placed inline through the typical method of a footnote. However, that citation from Bleacher Report attributes the contact signing to Cleveland Plain Dealer's Chris Haynes, but Haynes on twitter attributes the report to "league sources". Per WP:SPORTSTRANS, these anonymous league sources are generally considered unreliable for Wikipedia purposes. While Shawnsak was right to be bold and edit while citing a source, it appears the source is unreliable in this case.—Bagumba (talk) 19:20, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bagumba: I agree with everything you said, but was trying to avoid duplicating information provided by DaHuzyBru above, which already referenced WP:SPORTSTRANS. ~ RobTalk 19:27, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It think it's important for Shawnsak to understand why the source that was cited is unreliable, because it might not otherwise have been apparent. On a side note, it's one reason I generally try to use something other than Bleacher Report, with the exception of a few select writers there.—Bagumba (talk) 19:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the problem is that there has been a trend this season to not update an unsigned draft picks team in the infobox. There is no dispute that Christmas has been traded, but whether his team should be in the infobox if he has not signed yet. Shawnsak: please consider commenting on the issue at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association#Draft_picks_showing_NBA_colors_and_team_history. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 19:41, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The point is – his rights were traded because the Cavaliers had not signed him yet. The Pacers own his rights, but he has not yet signed a contract. There is, however, an agreement so he will likely be signing soon [1]. Shawnsak – just be patient, the signing will become official in the near future.
