Jack Barker[edit]

Hi there. I did indeed write quite a bit of the Jack Barker page. It's all sourced to the book cited on the page. I'm not saying it's correct but if you change it, you'll need to provide reliable sources for your amendments. For more info, see policies WP:V and WP:RS. 22:44, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note - in view of what you say, I have deleted the reference to other family members and added a few paragraphs to the article's talk page regarding the date of birth. Obviously, we all want the article to be factually correct, but as ALL published sources have the same date of birth, it will be difficult to get this changed. I guess that all the websites and books have got the date of birth from the same original source, presumably his registration papers, so to get this changed you will need to send a copy of the birth certificate to the FA/Football League, although neither organisation seems particularly concerned about the accuracy of its historical records. (The history sections of the FAs website are particularly poor.) You might also like to email the three websites that I have quoted in the talk-page and ask them for their advice in correcting their records.

As for changing the date of birth on Wikipedia, if you can upload a copy of his birth certificate (using the upload file tab in the left-hand toolbox) I can see no reason why this can't be included in the article as proof that the published date is wrong. If you are struggling to do this, send me an e-mail, via the link on my talk page (again in the left-hand toolbox) and I'll do it for you. Likewise with the photos, these can be uploaded using the "upload file" link in the toolbox.

Sorry for not responding to your email - I can offer no valid excuse, other than that I usually edit Wikipedia from my laptop, whereas my emails come via my PC (what a pathetic excuse!). I did have a look at the copyright issues without coming to any firm conclusions. I suggest that you try the second line under the "What kind of image or multimedia (audio or video) file is it?" question i.e. "The work of someone else, who has given permission to use it on Wikipedia or it is a work released under a free license", and then in the "Licensing" box, click on "Public domain".

Newly uploaded images are policed by Hawkeyes and anything they're not happy with will be challenged very quickly. I've added the extra licence to the image file and linked it to the article. Once you have uploaded an image, you can find it by clicking on "my contributions" at the top right of the screen, and then following the link from there. Thanks for uploading File:JohnW(Jack)BarkerBirth Cert.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.
