Please stop[edit]

Your recent edits appear primarily to be introducing Template:citation needed to inappropriate sections of articles. Please stop, as that is neither productive or helpful. If you have a concern about material in the lede or that isn't already cited in an article, bring it up on the talk page. Ogress 23:20, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I appreciate your efforts to communicate with me in regards to my edits on citation needed.

I think 'citation needed' is helpful and productive- it helps Wikipedia article to become more like a scholarly article. If you think this is not being helpful in regards to educating people with more varifiable knowledge please be a bit more specific in your comments. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoshanko (talkcontribs) 00:02, 6 September 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

As far as I'm concerned that his both parents are Bengali ethnic people which makes Salman Khan bengali too. Since I don't have the citation ready I left the door open for someone else to cite his source.

Talking about citation - the source you provided doesn't not specify his parents ethnicity. I think using your this source is misleading!

Ethnicity of Salman Khan[edit]

Regarding these edits, that you made to the article about Salman Khan: It is better to have a reliable source for the fact that his father is Bengali and his mother is Indian than to claim that Salman Khan himself is Bengali and have a citation needed template. --Dodi 8238 (talk) 09:40, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you aware his parents have citizenship of India and Bangladesh which makes their citizenship/nationality Indian & Bangladeshi respectively. But as far as I am concerned their ethnicity is same Bengali. Are you aware there are more than 120 million Bengali ethnic people in India?
By the way the source you provided doesn't not specify his parents ethnicity though. I think using this source is quite misleading! Shoshanko (talk) 15:17, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The current source, Biography.com, says that "his mother was born in India and his father comes from Bangladesh".[1] It does not say that his mother's ethnicity is Bengali. You could start by finding a reliable source for that and/or one that is more specific about his parents' ethnicity. --Dodi 8238 (talk) 16:08, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I take your point- we all should search for more specific source. But your source doesn't say his father is bengali either. Then how did come to conclusion that his dad was Bengali? There are many ethnic groups in Bangladesh including Bengali, Chakma, Marma etc just like India has many ethnic groups.
To avoid this controversy may be we should remove the ethnicity part from his profile until the time we find source citing his ethnicity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoshanko (talkcontribs) 16:54, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I have emptied the ethnicity parameter for now.[2] --Dodi 8238 (talk) 17:44, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no controversy. Salman Khan is a Bangeladeshi-American. He is also a muslim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.195.176.248 (talk) 22:38, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I restored Bengali to the ethnicity parameter,[3] but the claim that Salman Khan is a muslim is still too controversial to be added to the article if it can't be supported with a reliable source (see WP:BLP). --Dodi 8238 (talk) 08:09, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree that before we write about someone's faith we need to make sure we have formidable resources to back our claim. Faith can be a very sensitive issue to a living person & we need to take greatest care before we even think about claiming he is a Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Bahai or anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoshanko (talkcontribs) 22:51, 14 September 2015 ‎(UTC)[reply]
