Hello, Significa liberdade

Thank you for creating Abir Mukherjee.

User:Vermont, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hello! I'm happy to see this article. My concern at present is that most of the content about the Abir himself is from his interview with Historia Magazine. Do you know if there's any secondary sources available that can be used instead? I've had a difficult time finding any.

DYK for Alena Analeigh Wicker

On 9 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alena Analeigh Wicker, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Alena Analeigh Wicker is the youngest Black person to be accepted into medical school in the United States and the youngest person to work as an intern at NASA? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alena Analeigh Wicker. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Alena Analeigh Wicker), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Babel

I recently saw your new article Babel, or the Necessity of Violence about R.F. Kuang's latest novel. Great job, especially the reviews section! I am slowly working my way through your citations and I have yet to make any corrections. It is good that you are including the names of the reviewers in the citations (something which many editors neglect) and even wiki-link the notable authors (at least, the ones with WP articles). I hope that you should consider nominating the article for WP:DYK before the time limit expires.

I do have a few suggestions for improvement. (1) Should the title of the article be "Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence" with a colon and a capital "O" since the phrase "Or the Necessity of Violence" is actually a subtitle? and not what you currently have with a comma and a lower case "o"? (2) The plot section might look better if it could be expanded into a short paragraph of 3-4 sentences. How is magic involve in this novel? (3) I am confuse with the phrase that you had written, "Many reviews discussed Kuang's attempt to complicate understandings of academia in the 1830s". Seems to me that there is a word missing. Whose "understandings"? Are you implying bad writing by Kuang? Or bad writing by 19th century academics?

BTW, I have noticed that you had taken the article's book cover image from Goodreads.com, which looks like a 5th generation photocopy. If you want a better quality image for the same file size, may I suggest getting a copy of the book cover directly for the publisher and reduce the size of the image in Photoshop or Gimp (or have a Wikimedia bot automatically do it for you).

Keep up the good works! -- 23.25.58.41 (talk) 02:40, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Norma Fleck Award

Thank you for your work on Norma Fleck Award, but please finish the job. You've left several lines of dubious markup:

{{sort|''{{Sort|Power of Style: How Fashion and Beauty Are Being Used to Reclaim Cultures|''The Power of Style: How Fashion and Beauty Are Being Used to Reclaim Cultures''}}''
{{sort|{{Sort|Last Safehouse: A Story of the Underground Railroad|''The Last Safehouse: A Story of the Underground Railroad''}}

There are about 20 lines with nested sort tags, which I don't think is right. I encourage you to visit WP:Linter. Installing and using lintHint helps prevent misnested tags, which are found in the first line listed above. Cheers! —Anomalocaris (talk) 00:48, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know! I'm not quite understanding how to user the linter, but I think I cleaned up the markup. Significa liberdade (talk) 01:46, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Improved, but there are still 18 lines with markup that begins |{{sort|{{Sort|... ... do you think this is correct? —Anomalocaris (talk) 07:40, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Ah! I thought I did a search for them and they didn't show up the first time, but I went through and fixed a number more. Significa liberdade (talk) 17:50, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Much better! One more thing. In the editor, are you using "Show preview"? If you go to page history of Norma Fleck Award, edit your most recent version, and click "Show Preview", at the top appears this message:
Warning: Norma Fleck Award (edit) is calling Template:Sort with more than one value for the "1" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used. (Help)
When you see a "Show preview" warning, it's a good idea to figure it out and make it go away. In this case, it wasn't obvious to me what the problem was, so I copied the whole page into my sandbox and previewed, and then did a binary search until I had narrowed the offending markup to just a few table rows. At that point it became obvious that the offending markup was
|{{sort|1=|Inuksuk Book|2=''The Inuksuk Book''}}
|{{sort|1= |Kids Book of the Far North|2=''The Kids Book of the Far North''}}
so I removed the extra pipes in each of those lines, and that made the warning go away. —Anomalocaris (talk) 20:38, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! I didn't know that. I typically go back and forth between Visual and Source editing to check for any issues, but nothing was immediately noticeable to me. I didn't realize the "Show Preview" displayed warnings!
Also, thank you for being so kind and patient with this. I've been editing Wikipedia for a while, but it's a constant learning process, and some people aren't as kind when it comes to making mistakes. -- Significa liberdade (talk) 15:21, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Tag you added to the page

I saw you added tag to the [[Geraldine DeRuiter]] because this article

were not coved in news, But this this also found on news include The Washington Post and NBC news.

I removed this tag from page. I'm not entirely sure where you got the idea that was a reason to talk it's not meet notability could easily be seen as descriptively. Vikingsam (talk) 01:32, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Based on my reading of the article, it seemed like the blog may be notable, but the person not. The article indicates that DeRuiter is a writer at Everywhereist but it's not clear that it's her blog. This resulted in the notability tag. Further, merely having authored a book does not make person notable.
Additionally, it's worth noting that if you comment on someone's page, you'll want to be clearer about what you're commenting on. I edit a lot of Wikipedia pages, so I do not know offhand what edits I have made. In all communication, you want to make your point clear to whomever you're speaking. =) Significa liberdade (talk) 01:45, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Recent edit on Titan incident

Hi! I noticed this edit that you made on the Titan submersible incident page. I feel like this is probably quote overuse and borderline a copyquote issue, especially as it's all stuff that can (and should) be paraphrased. I rewrote part of this in this edit but there's probably a bit more that can be done if you want to look into that—namely, the "Background" and "Search-and-rescue operations" sections. Oh my goodness! This is incredible! Thank you so much! Wikipedia is really something I do a lot, but it's not something I really talk about with other people, and when I do, people don't tend to understand the passion I have for helping improve this public knowledge repository. Literary awards

Just a couple of notes for you about literary award articles such as Trillium Book Award, English:

  1. Per Wikipedia:Accessibility dos and don'ts, we need to use color in such a way that it doesn't present barriers for people with visual impairments — for example, that means that text on a coloured background, such as a blue highlight behind the winner's name in an awards table, has to be bolded to maximize the contrast between the text and the background.
  2. Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Tables#Sortability, please consider whether there's actually any benefit to making a literary award's table sortable at all. Is there any genuinely compelling reason why anybody needs the table to become resortable into an omnibus A-Z list of all the authors in it across the years, or an omnibus A-Z list of all the book titles in it across the years? Is there any reason why anybody needs the table to be resortable in any different order than the one it's already in?
  3. In any page that has multiple tables on it, it's not only important that all of the tables be the same width, it's also important that each column within the tables is consistently the same width in all of the tables, so that everything stays visually lined up. So there need to be width values in the table headers, like the ones that were there but which you removed, so that the columns keep a consistent width all the way up and down the entire page.

Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 16:40, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know, @Bearcat! Points one and three are especially valuable to me.
I work to increase accessibility in a number of areas in my life, and I hadn't thought about how the bolding impacts people with visual impairments. I previously kept the winners bolded, but someone removed it, telling me it's unnecessary since it's redundant. Since then, I've only highlighted or bolded the winners, not both. It's good to know that bolding has a purpose!
Also, I hadn't thought of the formatting complications with multiple tables on a page. That's really good to know. :)
As for the second point, I personally disagree, though I completely understand the sentiment and will deliberate the point. I have found sortable tables useful on various pages for literary awards. For instance, I may want to quickly see just the winners. Sorting the book titles and author's names also makes it easier to find a specific author/book you're looking for or see which authors have been nominated/honored/won multiple times without having for have another section outlining this, which can become a hassle when a large number of authors have been honored multiple times.
Anyway, I really appreciate the feedback. I'm constantly trying to make Wikipedia better, and I'm always learning. Significa liberdade (talk) 18:40, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello Significa liberdade!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

New page reviewer granted

Hi Significa liberdade. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 19:31, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Significa liberdade, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 19:33, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

Draftifications

Hello, Significa liberdade,

I noticed that you draftified 40 articles today which is quite a lot of draftifications. Please know that draftifying articles is just one way of dealing with articles that are not in optimum shape, it shouldn't be your only tool or even your most frequently used tool at your disposal as a page reviewer. Make sure that you are notifying editors of the page move to Draft space and check and make sure that the page creation isn't being done by an experienced editor. Often experienced content creators bypass Draft space and work directly in the main space of the project. Don't draftify articles that page creators are actively working to improve or have just recently created (in the past few hours). I think it's wise for you to maintain a log of articles you've moved to Draft space but remember that editors can disagree with these page moves and move the articles back to main space if they object.

Thank you for all of your contributions to the project! Liz Read! Talk! 19:21, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

AFDs

Hello, Significa liberdade,

Next time you have a lot of very similar articles that you want to send to AFD for deletion consideration, please consider a bundled nomination. As it is, editors have to go to 12+ different pages to make almost identical comments on each nomination. If you bundle up articles that are being nominated for a similar reason, then they only have to participate in one discussion. The most precious resource we have on Wikipedia is our editors' time so it's important to not stretch everyone too thin. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 07:54, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, @Liz! I didn't know that was an option. Is there a way to retroactively bundle them? Significa liberdade (talk) 14:17, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Significa liberdade, Firstly, I thank you for your every effort and assistance in making the article Ayo Vincent better. I honestly do appreciate your very kind assistance. DYK for Felicia Schroeder

On 26 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Felicia Schroeder, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that when Felicia Schroeder signed to play soccer for the University of South Carolina, the school did not have a sign-language interpreter available for her? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Felicia Schroeder. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Felicia Schroeder), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sarah Jackson (soccer) moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Sarah Jackson (soccer). Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:23, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi Significa liberdade. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary.

Steps such as checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline are mandatory and will take a few minutes per article.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any required steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

— Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 13:33, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Charles de Gaulle during World War II

@Significa liberdade Thanks for the notice. Which images on Charles de Gaulle during World War II should be removed or otherwise dealt with? XTheBedrockX (talk) 03:02, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, @XTheBedrockX -- you can check out the precise instead of copyright violation using Earwig's Copyvio Detector. I don't have specific input about the images, but there are a lot of sentences that need to be rephrased. Significa liberdade (talk) 03:06, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
@Significa liberdade Doing my best to do just that. With that said, though, there seems to be something a bit fishy about this "Historydraft" site. the 97% link leads to this page, where the very first paragraph seems taken verbatim from the Charles de Gaulle Wikipedia page. Just to illustrate, this is what Historydraft says:

Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle (22 November 1890 – 9 November 1970) was a French army officer and statesman who led Free France against Nazi Germany in World War II and chaired the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 to reestablish democracy in France. In 1958, he came out of retirement when appointed President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) by President René Coty. He rewrote the Constitution of France and founded the Fifth Republic after approval by referendum. He was elected President of France later that year, a position to which he was reelected in 1965 and held until his resignation in 1969.

And Wikipedia says:

Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle (/də ˈɡoʊl, də ˈɡɔːl/ də GOHL, də GAWL, French: [ʃaʁl də ɡol] (listeni); 22 November 1890 – 9 November 1970), commonly known in France and many nations as le général de Gaulle (General de Gaulle) or simply as le Général (the General), was a French army officer and statesman who led Free French Forces against Nazi Germany in World War II and chaired the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 in order to restore democracy in France.

It's possible that the Wikipedia lead was also copied verbatim from here, but considering Historydraft's social media presence mainly seems to consist of reposting text from Wikipedia as if it were its own, I doubt it. XTheBedrockX (talk) 03:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Good catch! This can be a common issue with Wikipedia. It usually takes longer to happen, given that the Wiki page was created on August 28, so I didn't look too much deeper into the issue.
Since you created the page, can you explain your process of drafting the material? Edit: I see you copied information from De Gaulle's page (apologies, it's later where I'm located). Significa liberdade (talk) 04:04, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Don't worry, it's fine! I'm glad for the help either way. XTheBedrockX (talk) 04:21, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Date formats

Thank you for continuing my work on Estelle Maskame, but I see that with edit summary "updating citations" you have changed all the dates and access-dates in the citations to the all-numeric format. I had chosen to use the "1 September 2023" format. By MOS:NUM all-numeric dates should not be used except that they may be used for access-date (or in tables), and also the date format already used in the article should be maintained. I can't just revert your edit as you made other, constructive, changes in the same edit. Please don't over-ride other editors' choices like this in future, and please change these dates back to the original format. Thank you. PamD 03:33, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Apologies! Per WP:CITESTYLE, it is acceptable to use YYYY-MM-DD format in citations as Wikipedia automatically uses this style when creating citations. However, it is not acceptable to change someone else's dating style as I have done (per WP:WHENINROME). I'll go ahead and make the changes. Significa liberdade (talk) 03:45, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Wikipedia automatically uses this style when creating citations.? Not the way I work, presumably because of different options or settings. I don't use VE, but use the RefToolBar box to create citations from URLs. I was planning to add her publication list eventually, but had a busy day off-wiki yesterday! Better source request for File:Book Lovers.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 22:48, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Women writers and their works

Thank you, Significa liberdade, first of all for your interest in Gretelise Holm. It's not often non-Danish speakers risk adding content from Danish-language sources but Google translate now produces increasingly good results. I'm afraid I'm rather lax about including the precise components in the references, concentrating above all on what is actually displayed for users but it's good to have website rather than publisher where appropriate. You'll also see I replaced your technically correct ref names with names based on the sources, otherwise I tend to mix things up. Thanks also for all your recent articles (around 27 since 26 August) on Tehlor Kay Mejia, Taylor Stevens and others, together with their works. I see you are following our call for more attention to books by women writers in addition to their biographies. I've never seen such a long list of contributions on the first day of the month as those displayed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/282 on 1 September. No doubt you will be adding many more before the end of the month. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:37, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Elli Ruuth

Hello. Please when you have time see this article : Elli Ruuth. I think it's no more longer orphan and replace a ref. Thanks. —Patricia (Talk) 19:07, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi, @Patricia Mannerheim! It appears that the Elli Ruuth article is still an orphan. To stop it from being an orphan, it should be linked to from elsewhere on Wikipedia. For example, if Ruuth's parents had Wikipedia articles, you could link to Elli Ruuth from their articles, which would make the Elli Ruuth page no longer an orphan. You can check whether an article is an orphan using Edward Bett's tool. Significa liberdade (talk) 21:29, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Unintelligible message

You have left a message on my talk page that I don't understand. I am concerned because it may be indicating that someone has hacked my account. I wanted to look at the page history, but I can't because the page has been deleted.
Please help. Pdfpdf (talk) 06:46, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, @Pdfpdf! The Deadlink article contained approximately three lines of text, one of which was a URL (I did not access it), and one of which seemed to be gibberish. I'm sorry to hear that your account may have been hacked. I recommend changing your password and looking through your contributions to see if anything else appears fishy. Significa liberdade (talk) 15:23, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you.
Were you / are you able to look at the page's edit history?
I can not imagine why I would have created a page named "deadlink". If I did, when did I do it, please?
With thanks, Pdfpdf (talk) 17:52, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
@Pdfpdf -- I can't remember. Sorry! Significa liberdade (talk) 18:04, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
@Pdfpdf: Please see #Your work with speedy deletions below. In short, you created a redirect that was replaced by someone else, which led to SL tagging it for deletion, which should not have occurred. Sdrqaz (talk) 21:27, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

Your work with speedy deletions

Hello, Significa liberdade. Thank you for your work with speedy deletions, but I unfortunately feel that you need to work far more carefully, as you seem to have regularly tagged pages without checking the page history first. As it says at WP:CSD, "A page is eligible for speedy deletion only if all of its history is also eligible."

Recent examples I have seen are Bobus, Silk Route, National Express, Search (computing), and Deadlink. All were valid redirects that were overwritten by someone else, which should have led you to restore the redirect instead of tagging them for deletion.

Other mis-steps include Linga Balija Caste (tagged as A10 of a draft, but A10 is only for duplicates of articles), Silk Route (tagged as A1, but searching for the name with "Boondein" in the article's contents would have shown that it is an album's name, so there was sufficient context), Yevgeny Zhilin and Mayor of Reno, Nevada (A3s, but they were intended as redirects).

Given that you are a new page reviewer, this is also a warning that one of the criteria for revocation of that user right is "demonstrat[ing] a pattern of failing to exercise sufficient care when reviewing pages". As such, please be more careful when reviewing new pages. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sdrqaz (talk) 21:27, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, @Sdrqaz! I'm still new with NPP and am learning as I go. I'll take greater care moving forward. Significa liberdade (talk) 22:41, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
That's great to hear. I'm aware that you use PageCuration to tag pages. While the tool is useful (like Twinkle), I think that it is best to keep an eye on the full policy page, as it usually goes into greater detail on what exceptions there might be, or may explain things better. I find myself referring to it constantly – better safe than sorry. Sdrqaz (talk) 01:43, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
I'll do that. Thanks! Significa liberdade (talk) 01:46, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Why the strange linkage?

In this edit of yours, I find the strange linkage [[Huffington post|Huffington Post]], piping through a miscapitalized redirect instead of just linking Huffington Post. I've been finding quite a few such things, and can't understand why they happen. Do you know how/why you did this? Dicklyon (talk) 16:45, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Dicklyon: That's strange. I have not done this intentionally. Typically, I just put brackets around the website name already there or what the Wikicite does. If it's written as a URL (or huffpo.com, for example), I'll rewrite it, but I always do the caps. Not sure why it's turning out like that. Significa liberdade (talk) 21:07, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
I'll ask at WP:VPT to see if anyone knows how this happens. Dicklyon (talk) 21:10, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
See WP:VPT#Strange linkages, piping through miscapitalized redirects. Dicklyon (talk) 21:31, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
I figured it out; see there, how the Visual editor encourages you to make such mistakes. Dicklyon (talk) 22:01, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Dicklyon! I know I usually wait to select something from the list because otherwise, the system can do weird things (like randomly selecting an unrelated article). Thanks for working through this! Significa liberdade (talk) 22:13, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Significa liberdade,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Speedy deletion declined: Khot Valley

Hello Significa liberdade. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Khot Valley, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Given that the article was created in 2011 and the website in question claims that its content is "Copyright © 2023", it would appear more likely that the website content was scraped from Wikipedia. Please do feel freet to revert. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 08:49, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, @Shirt58! I guess I need to do a better job thinking through that. I'm still newer to New Page Patrol and hadn't considered that. Significa liberdade (talk) 16:55, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

A7s on academics

Hi Significa liberdade -- Thanks for patrolling new pages! Generally, imo at least, A7 should be avoided for academics with any claim to significance at all (any full professorship, editor-in-chief positions, any (authored) academic book with a major publisher, more than a handful of citations &c, any book reviews), as it's difficult to assess quickly whether or not a given person might meet WP:PROF or AUTHOR without a fair amount of experience of how these are usually interpreted at AfD. One thing you can do with these in future, short of AfD, is to prod them, and also list the prod at the Academics & educators deletion sorting list, which ensures that it gets seen by editors who patrol this area. In these cases, I'd object to a prod on Cullen, who I think stands a reasonable chance of surviving AfD. Not so sure about Chadha. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 01:48, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the input, @Espresso Addict! I wasn't aware of some of the potential criteria you noted, but I had looked over their citation scores and such on Google Scholar, and they were all under 75. I previously saw something about over 100 on multiple articles or 100s on a single article. It's good to know about the editor-in-chief and academic book publication. I'll keep that in mind moving forward. Take care, Significa liberdade (talk) 01:51, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
The citations are so dependent on subject area, era and language of publication that it's hard to make any sense of. I've seen bio articles kept where there were only a max of 10s of citations (in a low-citation field, or historically). And generally academics who have authored two books that have received reviews get kept. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 01:56, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

plantain chips I'd different from general fried plantain, that's why. Researcherofgreatness (talk) 06:15, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

I was in the middle of writing a lengthy response to your PROD nomination when Pppery moved the dab page and resolved the situation. Here is what I was in the middle of writing when the redlink I was referring to turned blue because Pppery had done exactly what I was suggesting should happen:

It's interesting to see that Significa liberdade has suggested WP:SIMILAR as justifying deleting this disambiguation page. I'd like to point out that WP:SIMILAR is about "When two articles share the same title, except that one is disambiguated and the other not". That is not the situation here. In this case, one article was named "Intensive Care (film)" and the other was named "Intensive Care (2022 film)". Both of those article titles were disambiguated, but one of them was disambiguated fully, while the other was not. This is more of what one would call a WP:INCOMPLETEDAB or WP:PARTIALDAB situation, not an instance where one title is disambiguated and the other is not.

WP:SIMILAR could probably use a bit of clarification about some of this, as it does not mention the possibility that it might be a good idea for the title of one or both of the articles in question to be changed – it just assumes the titles will stay what they currently are. The hatnote approach is only appropriate when one of the topics is considered a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, which does not appear to be the case in this instance. Neither of the two topics seems dramatically more important than the other or dramatically more popular with readers.

Moreover, I'd like to point out the WP:NCFILMS naming convention, which says that the titles of articles about films should be fully disambiguated, not partially disambiguated. Partial disambiguation is a bit of a tricky topic, but I don't think it's necessary to get into that detail in this instance, since there is no indication that one of the two topics is a "primary" topic.

In the end, it would probably be best to redirect Intensive Care (film) to Intensive Care (disambiguation), but unfortunately that's a redlink. Until that page is created, it seems clear that Intensive Care (film) should be a disambiguation page. At the moment, instead of having such a disambiguation page, the Intensive care medicine article has an unwieldy hatnote at the top mentioning seven other topics that people might actually be looking for when they land on that page.

Thank you for such an in-depth reply, BarrelProof! You're right that I have misunderstood WP:SIMILAR and will keep this in mind moving forward, as well as your other insights. Significa liberdade (talk) 04:19, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your willingness to consider my response. I just edited WP:SIMILAR to try to clarify this issue. We can see how others react to that edit. Incidentally, congratulations on being selected as "editor of the week" a few months ago. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:26, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks on both accounts! I definitely didn't feel deserving of such an honour. Significa liberdade (talk) 04:35, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Significa liberdade,

This draft was created over a year ago so it was not an appropriate subject for draftification. Moving an article to Draft space is only appropriate for newly created articles or for articles where an AFD was closed with a decision to draftify an article. Some editors do move articles to Draft space if they suspect paid editing but you didn't state that as a reason but because of a lack of sources. In cases like this, you might consider tagging an article for BLPPROD instead. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:28, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Liz! Thank you for reaching out about this. Although the article was created a year ago, it was only moved into the main space on 12 August 2023‎, which is in the 90-day period for draftification. At present, this issue isn't addressed in WP:DRAFTIFY nor the related discussion. Is there something else these nuances are discussed? Significa liberdade (talk) 01:39, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh and Rkieferbaum: Bringing you into this conversation since the topic of creation date vs. publication date was recently discussed in the NPP Discord. Significa liberdade (talk) 01:42, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
@Liz: My interpretation, and I believe the interpretation that a lot of people at NPP have, is that the 90 days starts from the moment the article hits main space. Similarly, many of us have believed that, when redirects are turned into articles, that the clock starts ticking from the time that the page is no longer a redirect. I believe that that reflects the intentions of the guideline at WP:DRAFTIFY, even if not explicitly clarified. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:57, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Agreed. Although this isn't clearly stated as such in WP:DRAFTIFY, the reasons behind the 90-day rule of thumb refer to the time when an article exists in the mainspace. As an exaggerated example, one could create anything in their sandbox and move it to the mainspace after 91 days; it doesn't mean that the article couldn't be draftified on day 92. The case here isn't much different, since the article was in draft space for a long time until it was moved to the mainspace by its creator. The 90-day rule assumes that an article is stable and not frequently looked at beyond that time, making draftifying a slow form of deletion. This clearly doesn't apply to an article that wasn't in the mainspace or used to be a redirect. Rkieferbaum (talk) 02:48, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello Significa liberdade, Thank you for reviewing my edits. I apologize for the sloppy work. It is unlike and unbecoming of me. I had just finished an article and started it half asleep without reviewing it in draft form then it just went down the rabbit hole and went along with it. I will do my best to make it work. Again, sorry and thank you for your time.Chedlund808 (talk) 07:03, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

No worries, @Chedlund808! It happens to the best of us. Take care, Significa liberdade (talk) 10:07, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Significa liberdade,

While the 90 day rule might be fuzzy on exactly when this period starts, it is clear that articles should only be draftified once and you moved this article to Draft space twice today. Perhaps you were just very busy when you were working on the project and didn't notice when you came across the article again. But please check the page history before draftifying an article to make sure it hasn't already been draftified before. Another editor reverted the page move. Thank you for all of the contributions you do here! Liz Read! Talk! 01:37, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, Liz. You deserve a cookie. Significa liberdade (talk) 02:06, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to ping @MPGuy2824 and ask if it would be difficult to implement an additional check in their script. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:33, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
This check already exists in the script. If you start the script on the page right now, it shows the "previous draftification" warning. I would guess it would have shown the warning while the second draftification was in progress too. I've increased the font size of the warning messages and made the message less wishy-washy ("isn't appropriate" instead of "may not be appropriate"). Hope that's enough. I don't want to use a blink tag :-) -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:40, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
Yup, I was definitely not at my best with this one. I had a long day, including pushing for the October drive. My greatest apologies! Significa liberdade (talk) 13:37, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Copyvio revdel template

Hi Significa liberdade. I'd like to first thank you for helping dealing with copyright violations on Wikipedia. While checking some of the articles you marked for revdel, I noticed that you only mark the revision in which the violation was added. To help patrolling admins, I'd ask that, when filling the template, you also mark the revision right before the one where the violation was removed from the page. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:26, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, @Isabelle Belato! I didn't realize this was needed, but it makes total sense. I'll make sure to add that in the future. Significa liberdade (talk) 13:41, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Significa liberdade! I saw that you 7d ago as a reviewer suggested improvements to the my own work Pavlo Tanasyuk (Ukraine). Yesterday I've got huge discussion with two patrollers around possible WP:G4 issues on Mykola Udianskyi (Ukraine). They agreed with me that G4 not relevant to this case and restored it. But the page is still not reviewed by anyone. Can I ask you take a look as you review my previous work recently? I fixed infobox age bug, fixed orphan tag, removed irrelevant link, added See also, but no one coming help me. Antonio Vinzaretti (talk) 13:03, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

October 2023

Hi dear user Significa liberdade I want to inform you that you are doing some editing in the page on Nasir Zaman I have read the notability guideline and this page meets the notability guidelines you are adding the tag again and again. it's not worth it You do not need to do any type of editing in that page If you do this, you can be blocked by any administrator of Wikipedia. I will keep trying to correct the articles in which you have tampered till now. see that you have tampered with many pages. To remove all references to an article is to strip it naked. Don't you worry at all, I have removed your editing I have returned the tampered, Many editor waiting to see this article. Zimidar (talk) 04:06, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Zimidar! The citations currently provided on the Nasir Zaman article fall under the category of ref-bombing. In this case, the vast majority of citations on the page do not provide significant coverage for the subject. That is, the sources "briefly namecheck the fact that the subject exists, but are not actually about the subject to any non-trivial degree". Can you find sources that provide significant coverage for Zaman or explain to me how any of the sources on the page currently meet the criteria? If you cannot do this, the article should be sent to Articles for Deletion. Significa liberdade (talk) 04:36, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Significa liberdade: thanks for your contributions to Elvis Presley single. I assume you came across the page while reviewing it for NPP. Paraphrase tag on Dinmukhamet Idrisov

Hi @Significa liberdade: I came across your paraphrase tag on Dinmukhamet Idrisov and was wondering if you could identify the source that concerned you? Thanks microbiologyMarcus (petri dish) 19:11, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi, MicrobiologyMarcus! I've added the original source to the tag now. In general, it's from the "Alumni stories" page from Narxoz University. I wasn't quite sure with the paraphrasing on this one as it includes a lot of titles, degrees, etc. But some of it felt a bit close for me. Significa liberdade (talk) 20:40, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

About Anoe and Talk:Aneo - "Something weird happened"

@Significa liberdade, BoyTheKingCanDance, FatCat96, DoubleGrazing, and OliviaWolfie: Hi all. Somehow the move of Anoe to Draft:Aneo got borked up, possibly due to "replication lag" (And also: this is just between us, ok? I admit I don't actually understand what "replication lag" means) Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:24, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the ping @Shirt58. Just to explain, I draftified Draft:Aneo while doing NPP, because the sources fell far short of GNG, but I didn't want to request speedy as I thought the author might welcome an opportunity to work on it further. The move seemed to go through okay, at least I didn't see anything unusual... although saying that, I'm not actually sure what a bork looks like (is it a fish or fowl?). My draftifications shouldn't leave a redir behind, so how the current Aneo got created, I don't know, but whatever "replication lag" is, it sounds like a plausible culprit. (Heckuva long lag, mind, as the time stamps are 2 min apart!) -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:27, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
DoubleGrazing and Shirt58 -- it was definitely an interesting moment for me. I was just adding a short description via Shortdesc helper, and when the page refreshed, I was the creator! It literally should have only taken seconds. Is this the bork to blame? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 11:30, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing: The plan is indeed to continue working on it. This is the first article I've worked on from partly scratch (partly, because it was translated from Norwegian, so therefore not written entirely from scratch), and I made the dumb assumption that the standards were enforced more or less universally across the wikis, and that the sources would be fine here if they were fine elsewhere.
I'm planning to copy over the updates back to nowiki when it's good here as well. The more I read up on stuff, the more I'm seeing the significant problems in the source wiki. I mostly just need to figure out how to write stuff before I can make more proper progress on it. The overwhelming majority of my edits are counter-vandalism edits, which are trivial in comparison to writing content.
Also, while I'm already writing stuff somewhere, the orphan status (that briefly appeared before it was drafted instead) is fairly easily resolvable. The asset shift means that, among other power plants, the ownership in Fosen Vind is out of date (www.fosenvind.no/om-fosen-vind/; the ownership list is identical, but with Aneo instead of TrønderEnergi). This is also why I started with Aneo; doesn't really make sense to update the out-of-date stuff unless there's an article already covering it, particularly when there isn't much of a rush to get stuff updated. -- OliviaWolfie (She/her) (talk) 16:48, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
@OliviaWolfie: thanks, it sounds like draftifying (rather than deleting) was the right move, then, which is good to know.
If it's any consolation (probably not!), I used to come across a similar problem all the time, when translating articles from the Finnish or Swedish Wikipedias. The English-language one has stricter notability and referencing requirements than any of the others (that I'm aware of at least), and often the referencing in the original simply wasn't good enough. So much so that now, the first thing I do is check if the sources are good enough to establish notability here, and if they aren't, whether I can find better ones. If not, I simply drop it and move on to something else. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:17, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Removal of history section from Avant (train)

Hi Significa liberdade! I saw you removed the history section from the Avant (train) article as copied from the page: https://cloudflare-ipfs.com/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco/wiki/AVE.html implying that this crates a copyright violation issue. Then Nthep hided all relative history of this article regarding this section. I think there is a misunderstanding here and I personally do not see any copyright problem with this section. The page you are referring to is a copy of an old version of the AVE Wikipedia article from 11/3/2016. This article has been changed since then with many sections of it to be moved to other more specific Wikipedia articles. The Avant (train) is one of those articles, a new Wikipedia page that now describes in detail what was previously part of the AVE article. The Avant service is in fact a different high-speed rail service from the AVE service and therefore the part of the history section that is related to the Avant service has to be moved to the dedicated Avant article in a new history section. There is no copyright violation since the source of this information is Wikipedia itself along with the corresponding citations. Clicklander (talk) 10:57, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Copyrights and revdel

Hello, I notice you have tagged a large number of pages with both {{db-g12}} and {{revdel}}. If a page should be deleted for copyvios, then it does not need revdel, and if the offending content has been removed, then deletion is likely not necessary. Of course if all text has been removed, then G12 deletion is more appropriate than removal. Primefac (talk) 08:41, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Primefac -- Thanks for letting me know! I wasn't sure with AfC since there's a huge thing on the article that says not to let the copyvio remain in the history. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:58, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I think I see what you mean. "Leaving it in the history" would mean removing the content but not asking for a revdel. Of course, if the page is deleted, it doesn't remain in the history! I guess that was more my point - either one works so it is very rare to need both on the same page. Primefac (talk) 15:18, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Charlotte, hope you are doing well

I was looking in Category:Pending AfC submissions being reviewed now and saw that you have Draft:Danielle Cain (series) marked as under review since the 2nd November. Are you still reviewing this article or can it be reset back in to the queue? Cheers! - RichT|C|E-Mail 11:10, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
