October 2012[edit]

Hello, I'm TenPoundHammer. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Chris Lindsey seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your article[edit]

First of all, it's generally not a good idea to edit a page on yourself; that's called conflict of interest. Second of all, please keep a neutral point of view. Verbiage like "breakthrough", "slew of honors", "top-rated", etc. is very informal and not the kind of tone we want. Also, the text you added looks like it was copied from somewhere else, which means it might be a copyright violation — you have to use your own words when editing Wikipedia. Finally, it's very highly recommended that you add reliable sources. (I've found nothing at all on Google that verifies that you're from Vegas, for one. And we can't use word of mouth as a "source" — any content has to be backed up by a source that another editor can go back to and check.)

And finally, just out of curiosity, are you related to Hillary Lindsey? I've seen you collaborate with her a lot, but again, I can't find much biographical info on you at all. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 01:50, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Lindsey Page[edit]

I've gone through ever bit of information on my page and it is all correct. I was born in Las Vegas , Nevada. I don't have anyone else to work on my wiki page. Please put my edits back. It is all verifiable information. Chris Lindsey — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.137.82.80 (talk) 02:06, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The issue isn't whether or not it's correct. The issue is how it's phrased. I can put it back in a more neutral, encyclopedic tone. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 02:26, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Again, the info you add has to be your own text — you can't copy from another website. Most of what you wrote was copied wholesale from here, and you can't do that. You can use that site as a footnote, which I've done. (Also, I find it amusing that you added such outdated text. Caitlin & Will broke up after "Address in the Stars".) also[edit]

You can check allmusic. This is all listed there. As far as my birthplace.. I don't know how you check that... you can ask my Mom. : ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.137.82.80 (talk) 02:08, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Gigs (talk) 02:50, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway scary TL;DR warning template aside, you can't just copy and paste stuff from other websites into your article. Gigs (talk) 02:51, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The text is mine and you find the Will and Caitlyn credit amusing??? so if a band breaks up, they should no longer be listed on wiki?? What is your point? I wrote the text. I don't understand what you're doing. Please put my info back.

I did not copy one word of the text from websites.

Please contact me...

The website you point to was given that text by me. They did not generate one word of it. I did.

Please feel free to put my info in a more neutral tone. Thank you.

Because we have such a problem with people copying text they do not own, we have a process you would need to submit to in order to use that text that has been previously published on the web, in order to prove you own it. For all we know, you could be anyone. So, I'm sorry for the hassle, but to use that text you'd need to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. It may be easier to just write new, neutral toned, text from scratch. If you do decide to continue editing your own article, be aware that we have guidelines on conflict of interest. Because you have a conflict of interest here, if someone challenges your edits, you should be accepting of their judgement. Avoid reverting people repeatedly, as that is considered disruptive. I found the Caitlin & Will reference amusing because it said you were "currently working" on an album that was obviously canceled 4 years ago. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 18:33, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
