"Welcome to St Pancras International...."

"Welcome to St Pancras International. This is a Network Rail owned and managed station with train services provided by First Capital Connect."

Hi there. I noticed you contributed to the debate and survey on the proposed move to St Pancras International. I saw the above static message on the platform monitor screens on the Low Level platforms (Thameslink) this very morning. I have taken a piccy and will upload as "Exhibit O" hopefully within the next 12 hours. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 10:11, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you had no hesitation moving Whittlesford railway station to Whittlesford Parkway railway station on 19th May 2007! best, Sunil060902 (talk) 16:49, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, see the above image. Network Rail, the owners and managers of the Domestic station, refer to their part as "International". Hopefully it is clear and unambiguous? best, Sunil060902 (talk)

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Most of the more active contributors have the userbox {{user MOTD}} on their pages, which either categorizes them or just makes them easier to find through Special:Whatlinkshere, I can't remember. I already harassed all of them once, but it obviously didn't help overly much.
As for the Main Page, I'm not so certain about that, mainly because these are really unofficial mottos, and I consider the MP to be more limited to encyclopedic content, and MOTD directed more towards the community. It is an idea, though. See you at MOTD! Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean. Aside from sending out over 300 "come help, please" notices and putting a big yellow box at the top of the page, I'm not sure how else to tell people to go vote. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:00, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Motto

Slightly confused about what you're referring to - I've closed and relisted a couple dozen discussions today so far. Which one are you talking about? Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:03, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Ah. Well, yes, it's a good thing it got rejected then. Please be more careful about that in the future. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:12, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
No, mottos can be approved or rejected earlier per WP:SNOW if they're an obvious close. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Wrexham and Shropshire railway

Pursuant to previous correspondence, I am now in possession of an official system map for the W&S, as contained in a new staff brief (21/9/08) and having been supplied with it by the W&S Sales Manager for the specific purpose of getting it posted up on Wikipedia. It details both the routes we were talking about. It's a JPG file about 1Mb. I have less than no idea how to post this up onto Wikipedia and so perhaps I could email it to you and you do it, since it's your article?

How does that sound? I need an email to send it to you, of course

Hi there....just wondered if you might be able to get back to me sometime on this one? I know you're busy, of course

Hi there, noted the map update. Certainly it's a better representation, however the map I have been provided with is (apologies) IMHO markedly clearer. Can I email it to you at all? Or I guess I can have a shot at posting it onto your W&S article but I have no idea whether this would simply appear as a replacement, or alongside yours, and I don't want to ruin your article.

Sorry to be so thick.

Thanks and Herts

Just wanted to say a quick thanks for reverting some spam posted in one of my sandboxes. I noticed on your userpage the link to WP:Herts. My 'local' project work has mainly been related to WP:London (esp Harrow related articles), but I do actually live in Herts now (and watch a few articles related to places near me or that I know about) so was just wondering if the project is actually active and if there are any current activities I can lend a hand with. I mucho like tedious maintenance tasks. Regards sassf (talk) 13:25, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

New template derived from User:Simply south/Condense-section

Hi,

Just to let you know that I've taken the "condense" code from the sub-page you had here and used it to create {{condense}}. Thanks! Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 11:04, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

According to the template you tagged this page with: "It needs to be deleted to merge histories, reverse a redirect, or perform other non-controversial technical tasks." Can you point to a relevant discussion that shows it is needed, or to a discussion that shows no one objects? - Mgm|(talk) 11:40, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

  • That's a whole lot of repetitive work. Perhaps you should ask someone on the administrator noticeboard (WP:AN) to do an AutoWikiBrowser run on those pages (or some similar tool). It would be a lot faster and easier on all of us. - Mgm|(talk) 12:06, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Request to move article Cheese on Toast incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Cheese on Toast to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 14:24, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

I had a brief look at this. I agree it is uncontroversial (in itself). The target page exists as a redirect - and this seems to have been occurred when someone redirected the page to 'welsh rarebit' and someone subsequently recreated the page with the wrong capitalisation, and redirected this redirect. For that reason, you also want to retain the page history on the lower case version. So, essentially a history merge - with page move. It can be done (at WP:HISTMERGE), last time I tried to do it - I cod'ed it up. Be happy to give it a go, if you can bear it all going pear shaped. All the best Kbthompson (talk) 15:06, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, someone has moved it - by deleting the destination and moving the page over the target (the prior talk has moved to an archive). Not quite what I had in mind, but considering the danger of failure (!) in my solution, it probably does what it says on the packet ... HT's-it-sorted. Happy New Year. Please see WP:CANVAS. I say this because you violated this with the running dry topic at MOTD. I did the same mistake too. Just, don't do it again. imonKSK 03:06, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I think this is a case where, to save the project and act for the betterment of Wikipedia as a whole, WP:IAR applies. WP:CANVAS is, after all, just a guideline and, reading the page, I'm not even sure if what you did even qualifies as inappropriate canvasing, Simply South. That's just my two cents, though. Sorry to interject on your talk page, I just still had it watched from when I gave you a Barnstar for doing what Simon says is a violation of policy. I say, do it again if the result is to save a section of Wikipedia that is struggling. Nutiketaiel (talk) 12:27, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Blanking

Hi, I see you reverted Sworoopmati's blanking at User talk:Sworoopmati. While it is preferred that users archive instead of blanking their talkpage, policy does not prohibit users from removed warnings from their own talkpage. Deleted warnings can be found in the history. However if they remove warnings but replace them with something bad, then it should be reverted. (LU + or - DLR) stations

Dear Simply South, How dare you presume to offer the slightest support to me when I have been put in my place by Such Authority! Of course the two entities' stations should be listed separately. I dread finding pages of Wincheaters' argification once LO starts running on the ELL. A List should be A List without such superfluity of detail that it degenerates into an uninviting display.
The first horror I found in WP was "List of closed railway stations in London" and as my deep overhaul of that has remained substantially unaltered I am encouraged to tackle the present misnamed Article.

A minor point about the article as it now stands is that it gives Clive's Pages overwhelmingly as the source/reference and that I found those pages to give a date for some happening which differed from that in other sources. Railway booklets and WP articles err in a small but substantial number of facts and dates. In the Battle of Waterloo Station's Original Name (where They knew as an article of faith that it was "Waterloo") even Dendy Marshall's History of the Southern Railway got it wrong.

PS Nowadays are we allowed to crusade?--SilasW (talk) 17:23, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, can you shed some light on your decision to move the article from it's name to a different title? There has also been no disambiguation page created at the original title; I presumed there would have been a discussion on the talk page for such a move, but I found none on the talk page. As the hatnote at the page states, For the park in London, see St. James's Park. For the football stadium in Exeter, see St James Park. - there are different (correct) titles which relate to different places, and readers seem to be directed quite clearly. I think it may be necessary to file a requested move for this change. Best wishes, – Toon(talk) 14:31, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

MOTD talk pages

I was just swanning around motd, and happened across these talk pages; Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day, Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Nominations, Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Approved, Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Nominations/Frequently used ideas and Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Schedule. Could /fui and /schedule redirect to Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day, and then /Approved redirect to talk:/nominations? It's so muddling the way it is. Queenie 17:37, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

If that were so, they would need to be archived to so show where they originally were etc but maybe. I'm not really sure about the approved section altogether now as the way things have been currently done it makes the page obsolete IMHO. Btw, the FUI page needs seriously updating so do you think i should send a note asking for help to all the people on the partici[pants page and in the category? Simply south (talk) 18:46, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
sorry, I like to keep conversatons together. :) Yes, I don't see the point of the approved page now either, and you should send notices to everyone involved as you did the time we were running dry. And the redirect was just an idea. Queenie 19:39, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Got nothing wrong with that. When the others archived they would need to be linked to the appropriate pages. Simply south (talk) 19:55, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, OK. Archives showing the now redirected page for all, and you can fix them after if I made a mistake. :) Queenie 20:11, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Will do. I am currently setting up a discussion area for the FUI and approved areas at Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Nominations#Help with FUI and Approved area discussion. Simply south (talk) 20:24, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Sigh. This has me bamboozled. I'm not exactly sure how to show the archive. Could you give me an idea, please? Queenie 20:28, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
I knew i should have worded that a bit better. Some suggestions are: One way is to move the discussions to the current talk pages they now redirect to as a couple were proposed in the past, although i think it would be good to note where they were moved from. Another way is to put each of the discussions to Archive 1 of their talk sub-page and link all these different archives, as has also been done in the past. Yes what? Yes you want me to archive or keep it open longer?--Best, RUCӨ 16:02, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
It has been a week since your last reply. Can this now be archived?--Best, RUCӨ 00:23, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Thats fine, only reason I ask is because there is a backlog at ER.--Best, RUCӨ 00:55, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I picked one of your suggestions for the London Portal lead picture. It really needs to be updated more often, they're obviously filming a costume drama - but which one? If you can improve the caption - please feel free. Hope all is well with you. Kbthompson (talk) 10:50, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Metropolitan

You might wish to say that we are trying to revitalise the London Portal and that contributions and suggestions are more than welcome. We have showcase articles, showcase pix and a DYK. As a parent project to London Transport, we're happy to include transport topics - and hopefully, at least two a year - without stepping on your toes (I absolutely love the almost cartoon lighting of the St Pancras pix in your current issue). There should be more co-operation between the two projects - after all, we take the same trains and buses. Kbthompson (talk) 22:42, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

DLR

Apologies i slightly misread what you had done and having looked at it again i feel maybe it is worth having both categories (DLR stations AND DLR stations in xxx)

cheers lordmwa (talk) 20:18, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Why did you jsut palce a speedy tag on Category:London Underground stubs? It wasn't an empty category...--Pattont/c 22:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Make them empty before dleeting in future! Thanks!-Pattont/c 22:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm declining this too...it's a currently-used cat. Why are you tagging a populated cat as "empty"? AKRadeckiSpeaketh 23:43, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
This category is empty, the category database just hasn't caught up yet. Open any of the articles in it and have a look at the categories. This lag is an oft-reported fault that Brion's been unable to fix – see this one of many similar discussions at VPT. – iridescent 23:47, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

For anyone else intersted in this please see my reply to Patton123 at User talk:Patton123#Category:London Underground stubs and Category:London Overground stubs. Simply south (talk) 23:49, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Route Diagram Templates

Notice that you (and others) have been renaming the diagrams to add "RDT" at the end. Please can you advise on which talk page you gained consensus for this? I have checked the talk pages of Wikipedia:Route diagram template, Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Railways and Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains and I see nothing. Not any discussion, nor any polite "for your information I am proposing that we do this". You actions may comply with WP:BOLD but that does not give you WP:CONSENSUS as the relevant articles will make clear (perhaps you need to read the guidelines again). Your actions are not what would be expected from an experienced editor such as yourself. Please explain yourself to the community. Bhtpbank (talk) 13:24, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I responded at my talk. --Dweller (talk) 17:34, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

TfD

I know this was not your intention but you removed the TfD notice from Template:London Bus Routes. Please can you on any future items that are up for deletion or other not remove them until the discussion has closed. Simply south (talk) 14:28, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Defeaturing the List of LU stations

I'm not sure why you send me a message but Thank you. I would support its removal from WP Featured lists because

  • A) It includes DLR and who knows what else. For DLR and LO the article should have notes with links to their separate lists.
  • B) It is a most ghastlily laid out article with many boxes covering, by virtue (?) of the verbosity and text size of their contents, vast areas of the screen. Look at List of closed railway stations in London, even tho much of that's neatness was my doing.--SilasW (talk) 21:00, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

"Eastfields" station

Surely this name was mooted before the Mitcham Eastfields railway station opened????? best, Sunil060902 (talk) 09:45, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Well the signs and announcements definitely say "Mitcham". Therefore I put "during planning and construction". Hope that's OK. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 14:24, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summaries

Hey, man, you're edit summaries over at MOTD Nominations in review are kind of freaking me out... Nutiketaiel (talk) 17:20, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh, it was an April Fools thing. I wasn't expecting any of that while it was still March 31st. Well done, my friend, well done. Nutiketaiel (talk) 12:03, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

What exactly are you nominating for deletion? The links go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion but I wasn't sure if you mean Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Cheers. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 00:02, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

It dawned on me later. I would have got it earlier but the date time group on the UTC was 23:52 on the 31st. For the biggest one of all see here. Everybody is polite and never mentions it. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 12:17, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah but that would have meant looking at your user page to see where you lived. Then trying to remeber when you folks change the clocks. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 12:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
But I was at work and there we use UTC so I tend to forget the real time. Also we change our clocks based on our overlords, if we didn't they might get upset and invade, and do it on the second Sunday in March.
