Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Netherzone (talk) 15:26, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question re: photos in Draft:Chemical X[edit]

Hi @SirMaryFoodcupboard, I left you a note regarding how to improve your draft on Chemical X. I noticed that the photographs were uploaded and licensed as your own work. Is the draft an autobiography? Netherzone (talk) 21:17, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I used to be a photographer and film maker and worked with a guy, Will Woodward who was making a film about Chemical X. I amassed some photos from the shoots and even did some studio work to photograph some of the pieces. I always thought he should have his own Wiki page as I became a big fan of his work and I'm one of the few people who know his timeline so I've finally got round to it. SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 04:33, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Photos you shot of Chemical X themself (the person) are ok to use, but the ones of their artwork are copyright violations unless the artist releases their copyrights to their work. They would need to contact Wikipedia Commons' Volunteer Response Team with permissions/consent under the correct license before the images can be used. (You own the copyright to the photos, but they own the copyrights to their work.) More info here: [1].
Their direct email is here: permissions-commonswikimedia.org Netherzone (talk) 10:57, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've emailed them - awaiting response. SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 11:37, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
...and I've added in some more citations - found some more source material too. SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 11:38, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that this image is licensed by Getty Images (published in Juxtapoz), is that your photograph too? If so Getty will need to release it.

hello again! I saw the note you added to the draft, thank you for declaring your connection. I'm pretty sure this needs to go on the Talk Page of the article, not on the Draft page, and also (very important) a version of that needs to go on your user page too. Thank you very much for following our guidelines for COI editors.
I noticed you don't yet have a user page. You will need to create one. It's been ages since I created a user page, however, I think if you click on this link: User:SirMaryFoodcupboard and follow the instructions there to "Start the User:SirMaryFoodcupboard page" that should work. If it doesn't, let me know, or ask at the Wikipedia Tea House.
Once the draft is accepted and a reviewer moves it to article space, you need to stop editing the article directly and instead use the "Edit Request" system to make further changes.
I don't think there will be any problems with his notability being recognized. His work is amazing and important and this is well documented in reliable sources. Best of luck, Netherzone (talk) 01:32, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've put it on the correct page now but I don't know why it is repeating my statement. Html isn't my forte...any help/advise is appreciated.
I will take a look at setting up my user page now. SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 11:47, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I might have found a workaround... SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 12:08, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SirMaryFoodcupboard: I made some modifications for you. I put the {{connected contributor}} template with the longer explanation of your COI on the draft talk page (Draft talk:Chemical X). On your userpage, I replaced the existing content with the {{UserboxCOI}} template. That should suffice. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 13:07, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chemical X artist[edit]

Hi Netherzone. I think I may be out of my depth trying to write this page about Chemical X. It's not me (as I have stated) but I obviously don't have the correct skillset to write the text without sounding like a fan. I thought I'd done OK on the last version but it appears that I'm still off. Not sure what you mean with the photos though? I have taken some, I have some from another photographer and I sought permission from Chemical X Industries Ltd who work with the artist and I have one photo provided by them.

Can you advise me, or point me in the right direction as to how to put this page together as it's not something I've done before and, perhaps misguidedly, I thought that I could put one together about Chemical X as I saw he didn't have one and I really rate his work.

What should I do? I've come this far so I don't want to give up yet... SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 11:55, 28 September 2023 (UTC) Netherzone (talk) 13:45, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't even get THAT right... SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 13:50, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's clear that your intentions are good. You did not do anything wrong by posting on my talk page, however I am a volunteer editor (like 99% percent of us) and have a very full time job in real life, so do not have the time to personally mentor you. It's probably best to ask at the WP:TEAHOUSE for help. Writing a biography of a living person is probably the most difficult task someone can do on Wikipedia.
It is OK to promote someone on a personal or commercial website, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not the right venue to promote something just because you really like something. WP has biographies on notable people, not advertisements for how great they are. That's what Fandom is for. Please read WP:PROMO.
The article is written very promotionally, like an advertisement for the artist, and is filled with tons of name-dropping, embedded bare urls that point to vimeo videos, to other artist's websites, and sales sites for NFT's and the like. It's not his notability that is in question, it is the tone and style and much of the content that is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. I hope that helps! Netherzone (talk) 14:10, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that - I appreciate your time. I'll take a look through that info. I think I added too many links thinking that was needed to back up stuff. I'll see what to do. Thanks again. SirMaryFoodcupboard (talk) 14:14, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A good place to start is to remove all of the name-dropping, as it does not matter how many famous people Chemical X associates with or has been in shows with, or who likes their work. Then start getting rid of all the embedded bare urls. Then see what is there. Please do read WP:PROMO when you have a chance.
I also had a look at the photos again, and see that the VRT put a permissions note on some of them, which is good. Overall there are too many photos that are redundant. Try selecting no more than 3 to use. Cheers, Netherzone (talk) 14:30, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
