Mark Titus (Born 25 June, 1987)[1][2] is an American basketball player for The Ohio State University, and has blogged about his basketball-related experiences since October 2008. [3]

High School Career[edit]

Mark Titus' basketball playing career took off while playing high school ball at Brownsburg High School in Indiana.[4] During his career at Brownsburg High, Titus scored more than 1,000 career points and was voted second team All-Indiana selection twice.[5]

Freshman Season[edit]

In fall of 2006, Titus enrolled at The Ohio State University, where he planned on attending medical school and managing the basketball team.[6] In typical Titus fashion, however, he was quickly added to the roster by coach Thad Matta as a walk-on. He was cleared to play for the Buckeyes on November 10, and began practicing with future NBA stars Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr.[7] In the Buckeye’s season opener Titus received three minutes of playing time and made each of his two free throw attempts.[8] He would proceed to knock down a three pointer 14 days later against Youngstown State, giving him a shooting percentage of 1.000 for the season.[9] Titus would end the year shooting .500 from beyond the three-point line, good enough to lead the team.[10] He would also finish fourth on the team in field goal percentage and lead the team in free throw percentage (1.000 pct), playing in 14 of the teams 39 games en route to an appearance in the NCAA Championship Game.[11]

Sophomore Season[edit]

The 2007-2008 season began with a different looking team, as multiple players had either graduated or left for the NBA. The season would turn out to be a significant one for Mark Titus, as he would pull down his first career defensive rebound against Iowa on January 9th and lead the team with a 1.000 shooting percentage in 8 appearances.[12] Titus’ efforts would prove worthwhile as the team won the NIT Tournament on April 4th by defeating UMass 92-85.[13] Coach Thad Matta would later recognize Titus’ crucial role in the championship by naming him the best shooter on the team.[14]

Junior Season and Club Trillion[edit]

The 2008-2009 basketball season would see Mark Titus taking a different role on the team. Hampered by injuries, Titus realized he would not be able to contribute to the team’s success as he had in seasons past. After coming to terms with the horrible news, Mark decided to begin blogging. Club Trillion (the name given to Titus’ blog) quickly gained popularity, taking the basketball world by storm. Regarding the naming of the blog, Titus wrote: “Club Trillion is an exclusive club founded in 2007 by three very handsome and very financially well-off Ohio State basketball players--Kyle Madsen (#15), Danny Peters (#13), and myself. We named ourselves ‘Club Trillion’ because as athletically limited white folk, we found ourselves riding the bench for the Buckeyes. When the time came for us to get in, there would usually only be 1 minute remaining in the game and after sitting down for 39 minutes, we really had no interest in trying to be all that productive. So we devised the plan of trying to get the ‘trillion’ which occurs when we play 1 minute and do absolutely nothing that would appear in the box score, thus making our stat line say 1 minute played followed by a bunch of zeroes.”[15] Titus' popularity boomed, and he earned a spot on ESPN.com's 'BS Report' with Bill Simmons on March 11, 2009.[16] On April 9th, 2009, Titus used his blog to formally announce his entrance into the 2009 NBA draft.[17] The blog entry eventually became a headline story on Yahoo!’s home page.[18] Due to the ensuing chaos and demands from David Stern, Commissioner of the NBA, Titus was forced to pull his name out of consideration for the draft. Mark took the letdown respectfully, and continues to blog about whatever may happen in his life. Since the blogs inception in October, the site has received nearly 1.4 million hits.[19] In the words of Robbie Fiscus, a former neighbor of Titus’, "If you don't know who Mark Titus is, you should be put in juvy.”[20]

Senior Season and ESPN[edit]

In his senior season, Titus' exploits earned the attention of ESPN. Titus was featured on three ESPN shows (including SportsNation[21]) in January 2010, and articles about his antics were published by the New York Times [22] and the Associated Press [23]. Titus has been compared to Bob Uecker, the poor-hitting baseball player turned announcer/actor[24].
