Bug 275[edit]

What is that? What you removed re Grayson Walker wasn't a bug but it was a legal threat so thanks for removing it, see Wikipedia:No legal threats, SqueakBox 23:22, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bug 275 was when, in June 2005, a bug in the MediaWiki software caused one or more sections in a single article to become duplicated. I just checked that Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Grayson_Walker article again, and what I removed was, in fact, the duplicate section. I didn't remove any content - if you look at the diff, I only took away the second (and older) copy of that section. Therefore, none of the edits that I've done should have affected anything (I went through over 100 articles in the list on Wikipedia:Duplicated_sections). I'm not getting involved in any debates involved in any page that I've edited (I was paying no attention to the actual content of what I was changing other than looking for identical duplicates). So, I apologize that I didn't actually remove the legal threat, but as that article is marked as archived and I'm relatively new to Wikipedia, I don't want to take responsibility on it. --smith120bh 23:35, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, after hunting around Wikipedia policy pages for a while, I see nothing saying that I, as the original person to put up the copyvio notice, cannot revert my own copyvio warning. And I see a bunch saying that the copyvio listing is backed up and needs all the help it can get. Tony Blair: occupation of Iraq[edit]

I changed the concept of "peacekeeping operations" in Iraq to "occupation," with a relevant link. This could NOT be construed as vandalism, as it is true! If an armed force stays in a country after a war, it is occupying the country. The link will allow readers to understand what this means, and the obligations provided.

To call the occupation "peacekeeping operations" and remove the link to belligerent military occupation is "NONSENSE," unlike that which I wrote. Troops in Iraq are occupying the country, and have obligations to that effect under international law. They are not peacekeeping: this is, at best, a misleading euphemism and probably just a lie. There is no peace in Iraq to be kept. Have you seen the news? The occupation is making the situation worse: warmaking, not peacemaking.

Please do not accuse people of vandalism in the future when what is written is true.

I apologize. While I disagree with the extremity of your sentiment, you're right, it's not vandalism. I read "belligerent military operations" on the diff, and immediately read it as vandalism, not having been awake enough to read the rest of the sentence and realize that it was the other definition of belligerent... Copyright[edit]

Can you please remove your copyright violation edits on spagyric? Or at least cite the right page that I'm violating? The website you cited is just an associate selling for amazonherb.net, if you want to show where the real violation came from it's from the corporate site, http://www.amazonherb.net/Corporate/herbal_preparation_technique.aspx. Amazonherb encourages their associates to use their materials when explaining their product. I had planned to reference John Easterling's book on the spagyric method but I couldn't find the title of the book. I'm waiting for a reply from the corporate office at amazonherb.net. The references I put in my definition were a mistake, I copied them there to use as an example to cite John Easterling's book, but then I couldn't find the book and got sidetracked. As a student, I realize you have nothing else better to do and if you need something to do maybe you could look up the title for me or rewrite the the definition. I'm glad you directed me to the actual page from which the violation occurred, and I will update the link appropriately. However, for the purposes of a copyright violation, it does not matter that I referenced an identical page on the same domain that contains this same very important statement: "Copyright © 2005 Amazon Herb Co." Wikipedia, as an unassociated, non-profit organization, does not count as an "associate" which can use the material. I'm sorry, but I will not remove the copyvio until you either a) write some new, non-copyrighted text for the article, or b) show that you have permission to copy the material. If you'd like to take the latter route, I refer you to Wikipedia Requests for Permission. Once permission is received from the company's corporate office, as you mentioned, then the warning can be removed. If you'd like to re-write the article with non-copyrighted text, please do so in the temporary Spagyric page, and then I will remove the copyright warning and replace it with your temporary page. The only substantial information previously in that article was copied without permission. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and I merely help that process in my spare time. FYI, there are actually bots which patrol Wikipedia and tag articles that look like copyright violations - this article was one of those tagged, and I just Googled for the source. Hey there. I'm all for the Wiki process of AfD. Sorry if I sounded paranoid in seeking an admin's help. Whether or not the article on Alpha Chi Alpha stays should be a consesus among the Wiki community. I was concerned about sock puppets because I always participate on AfD and have seen it happen. As it stands right now, I think the articles will be kept and if they are there is no need to merge. If the vote is to keep Alpha Chi Alpha it shouldn't be merged and should stand on its own. Also, contrary to what Kharker has mentioned, it is not bad form to nominate three articles at the same time. It's a common practice. (Refer to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion at the bottom of the page.) I grouped them together because I saw them as being related. Humphrey T. Walwyn & Dartmouth College[edit]

From his place of birth (England) and that he joined the royal navy when he was 16 and he served in the royal navy most of his life led me to believe that he could not have attended a college in North America. The Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in Dartmouth (the college) was originally known as the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. It is the location of initial officer training in the Royal Navy, and is located on a hill overlooking the town of Dartmouth in the county of Devon, England. It was referred as Dartmouth College on his bio page for the Governor Page The Governorship of Newfoundland and Labrador. I shall place this text on his talk page also. Help fix a small mess[edit]

Hi Smith120bh. You helped me once before, can you fix these 2 problems, please? I didn't know how to rename (i.e. move) an article, and I still don't know how to delete an article.

The problem comes up because i went to create a Westhill Senior High School article for a high school in Syracuse NY. However, there was an pre-existing 'Westhill High School' article for a high school in Connecticut. Eventually I moved that to 'Westhill High School (CT)', by a move preserving its edit history. I also created a new 'Westhill Senior High School' article which is fine.

Problem 1: In the process though I mistakenly created a 'Westhill High School (Connecticut)' page already, without saving the edit history, which ought to be deleted. Can the history-preserving 'Westhill High School (CT)' page be renamed to be that, i.e. Westhill High School (Connecticut), preserving its edit history? That would be in line with usage for the many Lincoln or Jefferson High Schools.

Problem 2: RESOLVED ... THANKS IF IT WAS YOU... Westhill High School is now as it should appear.
