Welcome pt2[edit]

I have to ask; are you a Doonhamer yourself? I lived near Dumfries for many years and I love the area. I hope you're enjoying yourself here and I look forward to helping you in any way that I can. Best wishes --John (talk) 03:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I lived just outside Lockerbie from age 12 until 17. I later lived in Dumfries (Buccleuch St) for a while. My parents still live in the area, and my sister and family live near Castle Douglas. I have many fond memories of the area. John (talk) 15:33, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Doonhamer[edit]

A tag has been placed on Doonhamer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 16:09, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy McKinnell[edit]

Further to your creation of the above article. Please note that biographies should be about one person, not two. If they are both notable enough to be on wikipedia then they should both have an article, not a joint one. Might I also strongly urge you to read through these articles - WP:BETTER, WP:HOW, WP:VER. Thank you.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 23:17, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A request[edit]

Please don't take this the wrong way, however the articles you are creating are making work for other users as you aren't creating them in the correct format. I really would urge you to slow down from creating new articles, have a read of the articles I linked you to above especially about how to create articles. All the little things need to be right, and you aren't formatting the articles correctly. For instance the article name needs to be in bold the first time it is mentioned, as one example. I would be more than happy to help you, but I would urge you to stop creating articles for now, read up about how to create them and then start again. There is no huge rush to get all these articles onto wikipedia, there is plenty of time to do so. I hope you don't take offence at my comments I can assure you I mean well. Thank you and if you have any questions just ask. And slow down!!! :) ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 00:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Scoreboard cropped.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Scoreboard cropped.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

How do I add a link to this page? - Links to uk interwiki[edit]

I had to look this up just recently. I started with the Help link on the left side. Then searched for the word 'link' which found me "Links and references". I then had to look in that page, and found "Wikipedia:Interlanguage links".

That page seems to say that your "http://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/" in

http://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%96%D1%81%D1%82_%28%D0%A5%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%BA%D1%96%D0%B2%29

could be translated to just "uk:" like so

[[uk:%D0%9C%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%96%D1%81%D1%82_%28%D0%A5%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%BA%D1%96%D0%B2%29]]

Let's try that here. Does that work correctly? Shenme (talk) 05:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Willie Laird, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://members.tripod.com/~corstorphine/laird.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. I see that you have vastly expanded this article, especially the events leading to his death. Unfortunately, most of your additions seem to be a straight copy & paste job from the Independent article you have referenced - as this is copyright, can I suggest that you rewrite it in your own words to avoid having the whole article deleted for copyright violation. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 14:47, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Aston Villa F.C. players[edit]

Hi there, I have removed Ian Dickson (footballer) from the List of Aston Villa F.C. players article as he does not meet the requirements for the list; 125 games, or a significant club record. He didn't have either I'm afraid, so I have removed it from the list. If you have any queries, don't hesitate to leave a note on my talkpage. Regards. Woody (talk) 19:26, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Willie Laird[edit]

A tag has been placed on Willie Laird requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 15:35, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nonfree images[edit]

You can't use images for which the copyright belongs to someone else. A match programme or a match ticket are not acceptable to illustrate an article on a club or a modern player. Older ones might be more acceptable. --John (talk) 15:52, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:QoS_1936.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:QoS_1936.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 21:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scotland trip to the World Cup in 1954[edit]

It doesn't matter what I believe — that's the point. We should just state basic facts, not personal opinions. - Dudesleeper / Talk 18:48, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously the Scottish FA website is going to show a little bias. Please try writing articles as a neutral football fan, not as a Queen of the South or Scotland fan; it makes less work for the rest of us. - Dudesleeper / Talk 18:51, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just frustrated that we keep going round in circles. Point-of-view is point-of-view even if it's written by a journalist. We should leave people to make up their own minds as to whether the Scotland side was poorly managed, or whether there were other mitigating circumstances. Please look around at other club articles (especially those with good-article status, or those that have been featured on the main page) for guidelines on how to put information across without ramming it down readers' throats. - Dudesleeper / Talk 19:21, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Review of your articles[edit]

I wondered how long it would take for you to get tired of going down the list. I'm sure you'll have noted that those articles are just ones I started; obviously, they have received input from other editors since then, so feel free to continue your editing crusade. After all, it will permit me more time to tidy the Queen of the South article in an uninterrupted fashion. - Dudesleeper / Talk 12:53, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your query[edit]

Hi Socheid and great to hear from you again. I think I am personally neutral on the question of "it" versus "they" on the QoS article. I know it has been agreed that for bands, we adopt the usage you suggest, so your view does at least seem arguable. Have you thought of raising it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football? That might be the best bet. Let me know if I can be any further help. Take care, --John (talk) 07:39, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

When you recently moved Thomas Mitchell to Thomas Mitchell (explorer), and then redirected the original title to the disambiguation page, you neglected to notice that were a half-dozen or so other pages that redirected to Thomas Mitchell, as well as numerous links from other articles, that obviously were intended to refer to the explorer. For example, your move left Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell as a redirect to the disambiguation page, rather than to the biographical article. In future, if you choose to move an existing page in a way that breaks links, please take the time to check for and correct existing redirects and existing links in connection with the move. Thank you. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 13:20, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Scott McQuade (footballer)[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Scott McQuade (footballer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ATHLETE

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on Stephen Halliday requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. File copyright problem with File:02_Greyfriars_plaque.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:02_Greyfriars_plaque.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Closedmouth (talk) 14:25, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Nancy Murdoch. Our verifiability policy requires that all content be cited to a reliable source. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Nancy Murdoch has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010 must have references.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided reliable sources, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide sources within 10 days, you may request the article be undeleted when you have sources. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Don Peattie requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [ dotKuro ] [ talk ] [ contribs ] 11:58, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:53, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on "Queen of the South (movie)" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
