  • First off, I think this article is close to GA quality and with some improvement coud easily be brought up to this standard. Next, here is some advice on reworking the article:
    • The tone could stand to be formalized. Sentences like "Every student qualifies for federal free or reduced-price lunch, and tuition is non-existent" and "Every student is allowed (and required)" are coloquial. Written language shouldn't be phrased like spoken language so sentences like this should be rephrased.
    • Current events information (The overturned bus, the athletics section, etc...) is not of global interest for very long, and as a rule of thumb, doesn't belong in an encyclopedia article. See (Wikipedia:Notability#Notability_is_generally_permanent)
    • There is a certain amount of WP:POV in some of the Academics and missions sections which should be removed or referenced. Phrases like "more [whatever] than at most schools" show an unreferenced bias which, while probably true, is not within guidelines.
    • The "One other unique factor..." clain is completely false. MANY other schools require AP classes and one I reviewed requires seven per student (And students take up to twelve). The "Graduation Requirements" are not unique either, many schools require community service and many require science fair projects. Generally, any claim of uniqueness should be referenced or removed, as no editor knows about every other school in the country/world.
    • Phrases like "Unproportionally Large" also show bias and should be referenced. I also think the word is "disproportionately" but I'm not an english major so I'm not sure.
    • Like (almost) every other page on wikipedia, this page could use some copyediting (tis in the last paragraph for example)
    • The clubs/athletics sections could stand to be tables rather than paragraphs
  • Suggestions for expansion:
    • Add referenced sources to fix some of the above
    • Demographic information
    • Notable Alumni
    • Many of the current sections could be expanded, especially:
      • College Results - Locations, how many finish, etc...
      • Academics (in general) the paragraphs could be expanded and/or consolidated to add interest/clarity
  • Otherwise, have a look at some of the articles rated GA and above (Found here, here, and here) to see more of what is expected. The biggest change is to formalize the tone and do some cleanup. Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice/explanations. If you need more advice (From the community at large), put the article up for Wikipedia:Peer Review and/or GA nomination. RE: Page Vandalized Number

Yes, my page has been vandalised more than the number of times stated in the userbox as I don't update the userbox anymore. I will try to make it a point to update the vandalised page userbox once in a while. Nope, you aren't overlooking, its correct and I've since checked it. Thanks for reminding me. WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Friday Night Lights (Formatting Changes)

On my talk page you posted a message about formatting changes. Here is a small excerpt...

Hi. I recently made some reformatting changes to the Friday Night Lights article. I formatted as many television articles are...

Anyway, I have to apologize to you. I uploaded the images to those articles and made sure they were ok to upload (even wrote an e-mail to the NBC promo dept) but a bot keeps deleting them. When the bot does that I have to revert the page and upload the images again.

In one of those changes I think I might have inadvertantly undid your changes. I try to be careful but I think your changes were the first time it happened and I was frustrated so I apparently made a mistake in my frustration

Sorry again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThomasC22 (talkcontribs) 22:33, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Smile, even though you opposed my RfA

My RfA

Hi; thanks for your support to my RfA, which closed successfully at (51/1/2). I'll keep this brief since I don't like spamming anyone: I'll work hard to deserve the trust you placed in me. Thanks again. — Coren (talk) 23:29, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

RE: Warning vandals

Hello: I've edited Wikipedia long enough that I have my own system of warning 'vandals' when I think they need a warning. I've seen that there are users who really need to be warned and others who just test and don't really need a warning. I've seen that you warned the IPs whose edits I reverted. I always leave warnings, If needed, on pages that I have watched (which are quite a few). Depending on what is done by a 'vandal' in an edit, I will leave a warning based on what that edit is. Thanks Caster23 talk contribs 19:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes I do know about the Test templates and the different vandal templates; I have a number of programs that I use to warn vandals/testers when I feel I need to do that. However, I don't always stick to Wikipedia guidelines on how to do things, especially when it comes to anonymous IP address edits, as I believe the policy that unregistered users can edit is just stupid. Like I said, If I feel the severity of an edit by a 'vandal' warrants warning them, then I will do it; I don't usually leave Test warnings. I probably have roughly 2,500 edits so none of this is new to me. Thanks Caster23 talk contribs 20:05, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Extra question

Hello SorryGuy. I've added another question to your request for adminship. Thanks. Rudget.talk 15:13, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for supporting me! Please find your thank you card here, should you wish to see it. I'm honored to have received your support. All the best, ~Eliz81(C) 21:39, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Official thanks, slightly delayed due to post-RfA crash (who knew?)

Re:FAC close

The bot doesn't make decisions on FACs. User:Raul654 does that, the bot just carries out the decisions. If you have questions about why Raul decided to archive the discussion, you'll have to ask at his talk page.

When the bot closed The Preuss School UCSD the first time there was an error trying to do the archive/move. When this happens it's easier for me to just undo the tagging of the fac discussion and let the bot find it again. Gimmetrow 07:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

response

I also was wondering if you could recommend anyone who could copy edit the entire article. I tried the League, but they don't seem to respond very often. Cheers. SorryGuy 07:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

They're much in demand, and ration their input. Why not research the edit history pages of similar FAs and well-developed articles (and the edit summaries on those pages that identify the real copy-editors). Check their contributions pages too. Show them that you're familiar with their work. Ask nicely. Doing this may be a way of forming a team for future editing in this field.
Try "Criteria for admission include that the p g lacks a c e, and that the s f qualifies for ...". Tony (talk) 07:46, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA was not successful

I have closed your RFA. I am afraid there was no consensus to promote you. Please address the concerns that were raised, and feel free to reapply in the future. Good luck. --Deskana (talk) 23:02, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

RfA comments

Hey SorryGuy! I'm sorry that you weren't successful this time around; like I said in my comments, you've definitely got what it takes. I noticed, and saw that Bearian noticed as well, that a lot of your article edits were to comparatively few articles. Perhaps you could try to branch out a bit more, and write a few articles as well? Good luck! GlassCobra 06:00, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

RfA Closure

Cross post from Deskana's talk page ;

"I supported and agree no consensus to promote. Although a lot of the opposition made their comments "week" I suspect this was due to the promising nature of the candidate's contributions so far, and not wanting to deter a valuable editor. However I think that they still felt the time was not right. The Neutrals also seemed to indicate this feeling as well."

Although I agree no consensus you know you can guarantee my support next time, assuming you keep doing what you're doing. I agree with some of the opposition that branching out will help you too. If you need anything my talk page is allways open. Best Wishes. Pedro :  Chat  08:31, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Would you like to take the tools for a spin?

Hi SorryGuy. Looks to me like you're more-than-ideal "admin material". Would you be interested in being a temporary admin on Wikiversity? One of the "classes" we'd like to offer to the Wikimedia community is how to effectively use the sysop tools, read consensus, etc. If you want to play with the tools a bit, I'd be more than happy to "mentor" you (we don't do "voting" on our RFAs, just list yourself on v:WV:RFC and you'll get the tools within a day or two), and you'll have a chance to see what the administrator's interface looks like. I intentionally leave backlogs for the "newbies" to deal with as learning experiences, and we don't expect you to hang around forever: this just a "training course", and you won't "owe us" after the training is over. --SB_Johnny | talk 01:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey. I would really like to thank you for pointing out the opportunity that exists on Wikiversity. I am interested in experiencing the tools and it seems as though the contributions could be useful. However, at the point I am pretty busy, both online and off. However, I do have a two week break coming up in the near future and hope to be able to take up the tools there at that time. Thanks again for letting me know. Hope to see you over there soon. SorryGuy 01:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. Leave me a message on my talk (here or there) when your break starts (and good luck on exams). It's a nice place to get experience with tools, since there are very few policies so consensus is highlighted a bit more. --SB_Johnny | talk 17:53, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

RE: Vandal warning

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. SorryGuy 20:33, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Characters of Friday Night Lights

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Characters of Friday Night Lights, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Characters of Friday Night Lights. DRV

Sorry I didn't think about giving you a courtesy notice sooner... I have a problem with your closure of this AfD, and have initiated a deletion review. Thanks. /Blaxthos ( t / c ) 19:04, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey. Thanks for the notification about the review. I totally understand and am glad you reviewed it. I went ahead and commented there and thought I would let you know. Thanks, SorryGuy  Talk  19:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm sure you've seen the re-opened AfD. Please don't let this little incident scare you away from helping the project. I would, however, caution you to be extremely careful when citing WP:SNOW - five !votes don't a snowball make in any case that I'm aware of. Also, one of the other admins noted that none of the keep !votes actually address the deficiences of the article; I'd say that would be a core requirement for early/nonadmin closures. I've seen several AfD's succeed when keep outnumbered (or closely numbered) deletes, simply because the keep arguments were simply weak or avoided the issues entirely. Anyway, hope this didn't come off as harsh or disrespectful... thanks for helping the project out! /Blaxthos ( t / c ) 07:25, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh yeah, no worries. I am glad you went ahead and did it, I probably would have continued closing AfDs improperly. But yeah, I'm not discouraged, more encouraged if anything. At any rate, thanks and happy holidays. SorryGuy  Talk  22:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Surely. It looks like he stopped at any rate. SorryGuy  Talk  21:12, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for closing this AfD. However, for the system to recognise that it has been closed the (afdtop) template needs to go above the heading. I have fixed it. HTH. TerriersFan (talk) 15:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Just a reminder that you need to complete an (oldafdfull) template. TerriersFan (talk) 15:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Wow, sorry. I closed two last night and didn't only mess up the templates, I also forgot to remove the article templates and add the talk page templates on both. I guess that is what I get for trying to get work done at one o'clock at night. At any rate, I have now fixed them. I just wanted to thank you for bringing the error to my attention. Cheers.
