Welcome!

Hello, Spamfighter247, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I greatly appreciate your efforts to fight vandalism on Wikipedia. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

If you find yourself cleaning up vandalism frequently, you might be interested in patrolling recent changes.

For the WikiProject on vandalism cleanup, see the Counter-Vandalism Unit.

To make vandalism reverts easier you can ask for the rollback feature to be enabled for your registered Wikipedia account.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on this page. Again, welcome!

Additional guidance[edit]

Hi Spamfighter247, please read Wikipedia's vandalism policy to ensure you understand what vandalism is and what it is not. I also found this guide helpful. Once your account is autoconfirmed you can install the Twinkle gadget. You can find a comprehensive list of User warning templates here. S0091 (talk) 17:25, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How do i block users from editing? Spamfighter247 (talk) 17:32, 27 November 2020 (UTC) @S0091:[reply]
You cannot. Only administrators can block accounts. The appropriate place to report persistent vandals or spammers is AIV but be sure you are following the proper policies and guidelines linked above. S0091 (talk) 17:37, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
At what stage in your tenure do you become an administrator? Spamfighter247 (talk) 18:06, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It varies but generally the community wants someone that has been an active editor for a couple years, has proven they understand Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, has experience across several areas of the encyclopedia, etc. You can read more at Requests for adminship. This is one User's guide as to what they look for to give you an idea. Granted that is just one User, criteria varies. Here is an example of an RfA that went quite smooth. Some do not. S0091 (talk) 18:25, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am seconding that you are a bit too quick to call everything vandalism. People can edit in good faith, i.e., with an intention to improve articles, but err because they do not understand all the guidelines. Also, be polite. Writing in your edit summary that you reverted something because it was "what a load of crap" is uncalled for. David notMD (talk) 20:28, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

David notMD How would you suggest to go about vandal fighting? Spamfighter247 (talk) 20:44, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you have not already done so, peruse Wikipedia:Vandalism. If an addition (or deletion) is obvious nonsense, revert it. Personally, if from an IP address or a new registered address with just a few edits, I revert without bothering to put a warning on the miscreant's Talk page. However, if there already is a warning, add the next level warning. David notMD (talk) 01:12, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

:You have been blocked because you are believed to be using multiple accounts to misuse Wikipedia. (Non-administrator comment) Heart (talk) 18:35, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HeartGlow30797 never edited wikipedia before yesterday, could the fact i use a dynamic IP have anything to do with it? Spamfighter247 (talk) 18:45, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It could, but that does not explain the similarities in behavior. 331dot (talk) 10:17, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
