List of female chess players
If you continue to edit war to re-add the misplaced timeline section to list of female chess players I will ask an administrator to intervene and you may face sanctions. As explained many times, this timeline does not belong in this list article because the timeline is not a list of female chess players. Sorry, I see now that an attempt to move this material to women in chess was deleted. I think that was an error and I have restored it to that article. I will try to defend it if further attempts are made to remove it from women in chess. It needs improvement, but in this case deletion is not improvement and in fact makes it harder to improve. It seems highly improbable that an editor with your experience is not already aware of the policy on edit-warring, but just in case you aren't, here is a link to the policy, and here is a brief summary of its main points:
- "Edit-warring" means repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. Editors who engage in an edit war may be blocked from editing.

Sorry to see that the Lenglen FAC didn't pass. It seems to be indicative of a general problem with FAC these days, that articles that are basically FA class end up failing due to lack of attention. This process should be at least somewhat formulaic - if your article's good enough, it passes; if it's not good enough, you fail. It shouldn't just be at the whim of whoever happens to show up. Anyway, best of luck with it going forward and needless to say I'll reaffirm my support (assuming the article doesn't change drastically!) whenever you bring this back to FAC. Two should be written out?
In your edit at Alexander Zverev you mentioned in your summary that two should be written out. I'm not sure that's true and you'll have to check MOS. My recollection is the numbers 1-10 should usually be spelled out and 11-infinity should usually be left as numbers, but when multiple numbers are used in a single sentence their styling should be consistent. So it should be "Zverev has won 13 ATP titles in singles and 2 in doubles", or "Zverev has won thirteen ATP titles in singles and two in doubles." - That's for something like a sequence (i.e. you wouldn't do something like "eight, nine, 10, 11"). If it's separate clauses, that doesn't necessarily apply (i.e. He scored 29 points while also recording three assists.). Hi! I am currently trying to expand the Eric Rosen page, and I want to add more detail on his achieving of IM title. I see that in the Nemo Zhou article (which I think you wrote?) one source is a scanned application form for her title, with her norms listed. If you go to Eric Rosen's FIDE profile, it will say which congress granted the title, and then you can search for that congress on the title application page. I see that Eric has four norms listed. Raducanu, Canadian
We have always handled players like Garbiñe Muguruza as dual nationalities. I'm wondering what's different about Emma Raducanu? Or even putting in Canadian-born? Fyunck(click) (talk) 23:21, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
- Raducanu is more like Denis Shapovalov, who was born in a different country (Israel) to parents who aren't even from that country and he also didn't live in that country past when he was a baby. - Also, for what it's worth, I would write Muguruza as a "Venezuelan-born Spanish tennis player" instead of what it currently says. That would be in line with solving the usual issue of she is "Venezuelan" and she is a "tennis player", but she is not a "Venezuelan tennis player". "Journalistic" sources
Just curious about a topic/idea, not necessarily having to do with the Emma Raducanu article.
I know that a lot of people rely on "news" sources for their "facts", but journalism is published under deadline pressure (unavoidable as that is the nature of its existence). Yet precisely because of deadlines, journalism often has errors, from simple typos and (good faith) mis-analysis to outright factual errors.
Why wouldn't a register or database, which is regularly updated and corrected, be better than a journalistic source? By the way, things have gotten worse in the Internet era. Many outlets don't even bother correcting mistakes, much less publishing "Corrections of Error" anymore.

- Hi Posters5, read WP:BLPPRIVACY to see when it is permissible to include someone's name or full name. Read WP:RELIABLESOURCE or what counts as a reliable source for the type of sources that can be used. It's not really "journalistic" per se as I said, but more like it has to be published. - You can use those registers/databases to help guide us that maybe the sources that give her father's name as Ion might be more accurate than the ones that say Ian. But even then, if sources continue to call her father Ian over the coming days/weeks/months, then we would still write his name as Ian (because we use a person's WP:COMMONNAME in the media, which is not necessarily their birth name). Likewise, we wouldn't include Catlin if it never appears in a WP:RS or is difficult to find. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 05:49, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- I totally understand. However, it's unlikely that someone whose name is pronounced "Yon" would suddenly let people call him "Ian". This is what I wrote on the Raducanu Talk Page: "The Romanian name "Ion" is pronounced "Yon", which by the way, is how "Jon / John" was written back when there was no letter "J". Even if "Ion" were to use an Anglicized nickname to make it easy on the people he meets, it'd most likely be "Jon" or "John" instead of "Ian". "Ian" is a typo by "news" and "media" outlets who thought they were clever when they pilfered what little biographical information they could find online, and if you look closely, most articles are ripping off the LTA profile anyway. Again, LTA is an organization that has followed Raducanu for years, long before she became the latest media darling."
- By the way, I understand the need to enforce people following Wiki policy, but as I have mentioned on the Talk Page, I've seen errors stay live on Wikipedia for years because some editors worship policy over accuracy. Just to give you an example, a celebrity's ongoing education was listed with the wrong major just because an editor preferred a teen fashion magazine over the TV news station's YouTube channel. YouTube should not be a go-to source, but this was an unedited, live news clip with the celebrity being interviewed in the studio, right in front of the news anchors. - I meant B (e.g. "Men's singles") or E ("Men's Singles" for us, but whatever the default is for the other projects). I'd prefer e.g. "Men's singles", but definitely not "men's singles". The current e.g. "Men's Singles" is fine. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 03:44, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
