Welcome![edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Too soon[edit]

Your additions to Wikipedia are becoming a problem. Article for races over a month into the future, in which you are adding no significant information other than what can be gathered from existing articles, is unnecessary and unwelcomed. Adding tables and charts to seasons that do not even have a firm calendar or entry list, and does not begin for another five months, is completely useless and does not help anyone. Finally, declaring Vettel as World Champion for 2013 is not only patently false at the present time, but a complete crystal balling. Hiding your additions does not make them ok. If, and likely when, things change, most editors would not be likely to see the hidden additions already present. Please read up on WP:FUTURE before continuing editing. October 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of Running Man episodes may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Bold question - Formula One stats wiki[edit]

hey StandNThrow,

Welcome!

I noticed you've been quite active in the Formula One and data department here. When I also noticed you seem to know a thing or two about templates, I knew I had to at least send you a message.

I have just started the [http://f1stats.wikia.com Formula 1 statistics Watill building). This wiki contains a combination of statistical articles, achievements of teams and drivers, and simple lists of data that other data enthusiasts can use for analyses. As Wikipedia aims to be a general encyclopedia, more detailed data, statistics and analyses, and certainly original research, don't really have a place here. As I think it is very interesting for Formula One Fans, I wanted to create a place where all this data can find its place on the internet.

Would you perhaps be interested in collaborating?

~cheers GameLegend (talk) 23:18, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello GameLegend, it have been sometime since I returned to Wikipedia. How is the site going for you? I am still able to help if you need. StandNThrow (talk) 15:14, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Driver confirmation[edit]

StandNThrow, I have reverted your recent edits on the 2014 Formula 1 season page listing Romain Grosjean as a driver at Lotus.

Firstly, you only need one reference when adding this content to the article. However, it has to satisfy WP:RS. Two of the references you added did not satisfy these conditions. As for the Autosport article, it made it quite clear that Grosjean only has an informal agreement with the team pending the outcome of the Quantum deal.

Your attempts at improving the article are appreciated. However, there is a minimum standard that needs to be observed. In order to be considered confirmation, the reference in question must come from a mainstream publication (like Autosport or the BBC), and it must name and quote someone within the team (in this case, Grosjean himself or Eric Boullier). RB10[edit]

Hi, I would like to make you aware that there is a discussion about updates that you may have made to Red Bull RB10 at Talk:Red Bull RB10. Freimütig (talk) 07:35, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sergey Sirotkin[edit]

StandNThrow, please stop removing Sergey Sirotkin from the 2014 Formula 1 season article. The consensus among editors is that Sirotkin has the seat until proven otherwise. However much you disagree with the consensus, you have no right or power to override unless you can form a new consensus (and you will need recent, reliable sources to support it). If you continue to remove Sirotkin from the article against consensus, you can and almost certainly will be referred to the administrators for disruptive editing, in which case you may be blocked from editing. Disambiguation link notification for December 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sauber, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sergey Sirotkin (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Alphabetical order[edit]

Hi StandNThrow,

I have undone your most recent edits to the 2014 F1 season article where you swapped Vettel and Ricciardo about in the table. I know that this might seem like an arbitrary, cosmetic thing and that Vettel is World Champion while Ricciardo is new to the team, but there is a reason for it: we should list drivers alphabetically within their own team until an entry list is published. When that list is published, numbers are assigned, and readers can see something within the table that shows why one driver has been listed before another. Without those numbers, listing drivers any way other than alphabetically implies that there is some kind of special relationship within the team - it suggests that Vettel has some kind of rank, and maybe he does, but the team have categorically denied it.

I know, this sounds like semantics. When I first joined Wikipedia, I felt that drivers should be listed according to their time with the team. Using the above example, Vettel would have been listed first, as he had been in the team for years. What changed my mind was another editor explaining the need for a neutral point of view. Thousands of people browse Wikipedia without ever actually editing it. The way we represent information has the power to shape perceptions. It may be clear to us that Vettel gets listed before Ricciardo because he is World Champion, but is that clear to the reader, who may be someone with no knowledge of the sport? If we list Vettel first, it may imply a special relationship within the team, that he, for some unseen reason, is more important. And the reader may apply that to every team, coming to the conclusion that the driver listed first is more important than his team-mate.

In the grand scheme of things, who gets listed first is not important. What I am trying to show you is the importance of WP:NPOV, and why we have to observe it. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 02:33, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Prisonermonkeys Sorry. I thought the order was sorted to who got or signed the contract with the team first where obviously Vettel had the contract much earlier than Ricciardo. StandNThrow (talk) 13:14, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:McLaren MP4-29.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:McLaren MP4-29.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 22:02, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Lotus F1 2014 E22.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Lotus F1 2014 E22.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:14, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Lotus E23 Hybrid.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. File permission problem with File:Williams FW37.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Williams FW37.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:00, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
