Request for Adminship
Thank you for contributing to my my request for adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a withdrawn vote count of 14/27/14, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and keeping cool under stress. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Return to Oz... 13:33, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi There! Can you translate my name in what language you know please, and then post it Here. I would be very grateful if you do (if you know another language apart from English and the ones on my userpage please feel free to post it on) P.S. all th translations are in alpahbetical order so when you add one please put it in alpahbetical order according to the language. Thanks!!! Abdullah Geelah 16:14, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

AWDS CO page - about the Oozium

Lash didn't make the Oozium. She doesn't even like the monsterous sludge at all. Just making that clear. --Juigi Kario (Charge! * My crusades) 18:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Ico connections

Yeah, I was thinking about adding that back in actually, but since the setting is supposed to come before the characters and story, I wasn't sure yet if that would be the place for it. I was thinking that "Characters" would be the place for that to go. Sorry if I made you worry. Ryu Kaze 20:03, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm. Give me a moment to finish with the references and I'll fix that. I suppose the connection to Ico isn't terribly relevant to the setting given the different locations. Perhaps that section should just focus on the Forbidden Land and what we know of the time period. Ryu Kaze 20:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

FF crew

Is that bad? As I mentioned when I first offered to help out, I didn't want to impose if you guys felt like you wanted to make the FA push on your own. I asked Deckiller to give the page a look because he and I have worked together on so many pages and I respect his input probably more than any other Wikipedian's. Ryu Kaze 19:45, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I definitely realized it. That was why I was hesitant to start helping out, but even now that I am, I've tried to preserve much of what was there when I started, with my focus being more on expanding than altering. The sections I've dissected the greatest are probably the Characters and Connections to Ico sections, and even there I was mostly just rearranging sentences, polishing connecting words or removing things that had already been disputed by someone else and were obviously things we couldn't reference. Granted, I rearranged the layout significantly, but that was something that needed to be done anyway.
You guys improved the page infinitely from what it used to be, and that's really why I was eager to help out in the first place. I had always wanted to see the page reach FA, but so long as it was already closer to being a GameFAQs FAQ instead of a Wikipedia FA, I focused on on the Final Fantasy articles where my aid was often requested. Ryu Kaze 20:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, you can make anything sound diminished if you word it like that. You guys certainly improved it. Ryu Kaze 20:33, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

sorry

accidently modded a page under gta sa hot coffee mods and cant get it back so yea it needs to be fixed please

Hello Steel539.

I am in desperate need of someone to complain to, so please hear me out. I am User Cheese13, and I have recently made some entries on Wikipedia about Lavallaro, Hyperspace Cheese, Sam Taproc and Jif E. Pop (yes that is her real name). But, alas, no good deed goes unpunished, as they deleted all of my entries, but they were all true. They warned me, and I went to fight for the entries, but they banned me from saying anything. So then I started writing things (and I regret it) like "This site is gay" and "This site is dumb" and I told everyone my thoughts. Could you please possibly get my articles back?

Thanx. Cheese13

P.S. sorry about the uh, this site is gay thing. no offense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheese13 (talkcontribs)

Thank you!

Thank you for your kindness. The last 3 oddballs I talked to were either saying nasty things back or being stubborn. Thank you for giving me that link. It helped a lot.

Thanx, User:Cheese13

That's fine, thanks for your comments- perhaps you'll support me in another attempt should I choose to run?

EDGE's Shadow review

Pretty badly to be honest. I respect their critical analysis of video games more than any other, and if a game gets their seal of approval, that should be enough for anyone. Makes me sad to be a North American. Ryu Kaze 17:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Alright, cool! Thank you. In the meantime, I'll check IGN to see if they mentioned how Famitsu critiqued the game. Sometimes they mention Famitsu reviews. Ryu Kaze 17:53, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that the Metacritic page has a small quote from EDGE's review:
"There’s not much that can be said about Shadow Of The Colossus. Not because there aren’t pages to be written about the designs of the colossi, the wisdom of some of the puzzles involved in defeating them, or the deliberately ambiguous implications of the story, but because this is a game with so little content that to discuss specifics would be to tarnish an experience that needs to be approached with as few preconceptions as possible." [Christmas 2005, p.98]
Owning a few issues that I've imported and seen how daring these guys can be, I wouldn't be surprised if that's all they said other than their 8 out of 10 score. But I doubt it. It'd be nice if it were true, though. I'm sure they mentioned at least one or two things they liked or disliked. Ryu Kaze 12:28, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
"Half decent" is about all we have. And we're lucky if they're that. People hype Electronic Gaming Monthly, but that magazine probably has the least journalism scruples of any publication in the world. They regularly lie just to sell more magazines, and when people on their website point out why something they've reported is incorrect, they get IP banned (speaking from experience here). A few months back, they reported that Final Fantasy VII was definitely going to be remade for the PS3, and months before that, said they had it on "very, very good authority" that it was likely to happen. Even after Square Enix said that it wasn't true the first time, they still made that second report. IGN contacted them and SE pretty much said that they had not told anybody any such thing or even suggested it. They'd been saying for a year that it wasn't in their schedule and they wouldn't be doing it any time soon if they ever did it (but that it is something some of their key employees have an interest in).
Anyway, I really like EDGE. After reading our magazines over here and then reading an issue of EDGE, it was like going from rotten meat to a fine steak.
I appreciate you continuing to search. I'm still looking into trying to find us some info on the Famitsu score. I'm now browsing Japanese webpages. I'll probably end up having to translate if I do find something, but that won't be too bad, I guess. Ryu Kaze 12:44, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Rub it in. XD Ryu Kaze 13:07, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
You'd need the page number, the month and year of the issue, the issue number, the author(s)/editor(s) of the article in question (if you can get it; "Editors of [blank] magazine" also works fine if that's all you can put), and, of course, the publisher (Future Publishing in this case, I believe?). Ryu Kaze 13:41, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
You got ahold of it after all! Awesome job. So you actually own the issue now? Lucky British. :( Ryu Kaze 17:26, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
XD That's messed up. Hey, I don't suppose you could scan the pages for me, could you? I'd really like to see all they had to say about it if it's no trouble to you, as Shadow is one of my favorite games and I really like Edge. I've been considering ordering the issue, but something in the area of 5 or 6 pounds (in your currency) for it would be a little much for one review.
Did they have anything good to say about it, or are we to assume that the 8/10 was a mistake? XD Ryu Kaze 17:38, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
By the way, anything else in there that would add substantially to the section? As it stands, I think we're pretty good on diverse opinions, but if there's anything else that looks unique, let it fly. Ryu Kaze 21:11, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

SotC peer review stuff

Still on vacation, but luckily our hotel has internet access. I noticed you guys got Shadow up for peer review, and although it seems to be doing well, I'm sorry I can't be there to help all that much. A few things, though: you guys were looking for a Famitsu score for the game. I found it: apparently it got a rather prestigious 37/40 (10,9,8,10) [!]. I got it from here, which is one of the only places it's listed. I'll be looking for a slightly more reliable site in the meantime, although I don't have too much spare time (we don't spend too much time in our hotel room :P).

Anyhow, I'll be providing little bits and pieces whenever I can. I'll be back on August 6th! --Onlynameicanget 02:57, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, man, I'll take care of it. Ryu Kaze 22:26, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Be sure to place your support as a co-nomination after I've nominated it, by the way. Ryu Kaze 22:26, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
I finally hit paydirt on our Greatest Hits source: thank God for GameSpot. Ryu Kaze 23:07, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
It's been added to the official site too. Ryu Kaze 23:09, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Information added to the article and e-mail checked. The article's certainly beautiful. Feel pride, Steel. Ryu Kaze 23:22, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Maybe it's because it hasn't been happening rapidly. I kind of felt that way with Final Fantasy X-2, which is just waiting to be added to the FA list now, I think. I did most of the work on it months ago, but we just got around to nominating it a few days ago and it hasn't been quite as exciting an FAC as some of the others. I think after you see that little gold star in the upper right corner of the page, it'll sink in a little more. Ryu Kaze 23:30, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

That is pretty ironic. By the way, in the event that the article succeeds (correction: when it succeeds), I suggest we ask that it be showcased on the front page on October 18, as that will be the one year anniversary of its release. That slot is currently still open. Ryu Kaze 23:39, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

SotC FAC

Just in case you're concerned about the images we're losing, in all honesty, the in-game map didn't contribute much, but I added it because I wanted to try giving something to convey an idea of the place (we can possibly add a better one in later if it demonstrates the landscape well enough to meet the criteria of significantly contributing), and the soundtrack image would have to be removed in the event that Roar of the Earth got its own article anyway (soundtrack images have to remain within their article namespace). Ryu Kaze 00:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

We might have to change out the Nico DVD cover for an actual screenshot from Nico just in case the four images we've already dropped aren't enough. An actual screenshot from the game would inarguably be of significant value as it could be used to visually compare the "then and now" aspect of development.
And I just realized that you're probably not reading any of this at the moment, because it must be something like 2:30 at night where you are. Ryu Kaze 00:32, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Your turn to check yours again. XD Ryu Kaze 00:52, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and thank you very much for the scans! Ryu Kaze 00:52, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

The true irony sinks in: EDGE used 12 images in their review. XD Ryu Kaze 01:03, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Another e-mail your way. Ryu Kaze 01:12, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Nice talking to you as well. See you tomorrow. Ryu Kaze 01:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey. Do you think it makes sense to lose the beam of light image? I can kind of see the argument there. We've already got an image with Agro below, and the text description of gathering the light is pretty detailed. It probably conveys more than the image in a way, because it describes how the image focuses from being eight beams in the cardinal directions to just being one.
As for the Nico DVD, I'm going to go ahead and do what I thought I might have to do before and replace it with an actual screenshot from the development video. Ryu Kaze 12:41, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I hate that we're having to cut so many. It seems like overkill to me. They really should come up with some more specific ground rules on what fair use entails. Ryu Kaze 13:54, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Kind of a random comment, but EDGE didn't really have a whole lot to say about the game at all, did they? They commented on the framerate clipping, Agro's controls and... nothing else, really. O.o That's unusual for them, isn't it? That's also got to be the most unexpected opening line for an 8 out of 10 review I've ever seen. Ryu Kaze 00:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I've got to agree. I was kind of uneasy about that reference, but we needed somebody who didn't like Agro's controls and they were all we had. When you got that reference from the magazine I was like "Thank you, God". But, yeah, that's extremely odd. They mention two things they didn't like, and then just sort of spend the rest of the article describing the game without mentioning what they did like... and it was an 8 out of 10. Weird as hell. Ryu Kaze 00:39, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Check your e-mail, by the way. Ryu Kaze 00:48, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Update

(Our trip is cut short by a day due to bad weather. We'll be home on August 5th now. In fact, since you're in the UK, by the time you read this, I should already BE back, and will be working on Shadow's article and whatnot.)

You people get a lot done without me here! Featured Article candidate? Dang. I'm kind of surprised at what people are saying there, though. A lot of the criticism is being directed at the number of images, but the featured Final Fantasy articles use quite a bit more than Shadow's, which currently has only about six now. Other than that, though...people are quite happy with it. This article's gone places in just a month! Be back shortly. --Onlynameicanget 02:40, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Next project

I'd love to. Snake Eater is one of my favorite games, so count me in as soon as we finish getting Shadow a FA star. :) --Onlynameicanget 19:04, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I dunno about Eater's "Start" rating. My guess is that the article was rated prematurely, when it was just barely more than a few paragraphs long. It's about a B-class article right now, actually (its biggest problem is it only has one reference!). Strictly speaking, Shadow is still "officially" a B-class article, although it's obviously loads better than a B-class... --Onlynameicanget 22:38, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Asking Permission (I guess)

Hey I saw you added some cool stuff to the wikiproject: com and video games peer review for the game I nominated. I got many of your suggestions taken care of and I really appreciate your help. I thought it might be good to ask you before I do this however. Am I allowed to cross out the bullet points I've already taken care of? I don't want to offend you (bad), break any rules (bad), and it would help me know what I still have to do, as well as helping other people to know what to still look for in the article (improvement wise). Let me know if you care. Thanks --Clyde Miller 22:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

P.S. if you have any more ideas about the article I'd appreciate the help.

Your idea makes sense, and is probably better. That way you can decide if your personal criteria was met, which is probably better then me deciding when a section is completed (since you are the one who gave the suggestions). --Clyde Miller 22:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Dude (no I'm not from the west coast. I just suck at wrtiting.<_<) you don't have to rush or anything. I'm not in any hurry. If you happen to get around to it, that would help me a lot. If you're too tired or whatever you said (I know what it's like. I didn't get much sleep) that's cool too. --Clyde Miller 15:00, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh by the way, I put a little tidbit on the review page so people know I finished working on your suggestions (you don't have to respond to this. Based on the promptness of responding to me, I have great faith you willl read this). If you find them up to your standards or not, you may want to mention that on the review page, if you get the chance (I know pretty busy with Shadow of the Colossus).--Clyde Miller 15:12, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Ironically, I sent this to apologize for bothering you so much. I found a great article to use as an example format for critical reviews...yours. --Clyde Miller 15:24, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Finally

An objection we can address. Everything that was brought up has been addressed except for the spoiler tag thing (we don't have to use one of those because all the plot details are in the plot section already) and a reference for the colossi turning into dirt. That reference may be difficult to find, but I'll look for one. Ryu Kaze 18:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Good idea. I just pointed out the basics of the matter when I spoke to him about it (not in MOS, based on editors' stylistic preferences) just now rather than getting into all the philosophical aspects of it. And, yep, it is quite difficult to find that reference. :( Ryu Kaze 18:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Got something here that talks about the crumbling to dust.[1] Not sure if it's quite what we want, though. I imagine we could use it, but I'd like to find something else. Ryu Kaze 18:50, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Alright, with that first reference, plus this one (search for "large piles of rocks"), we should be okay there. Ryu Kaze 19:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Aye. :( I'm going to talk to him about it, though, and explain why we don't have to use them. I really think those things would harm the professional quality we're shooting for. Ryu Kaze 19:36, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in noticing your e-mails. I really should get that automatic notifier update for firefox. Ryu Kaze 21:06, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

A little help

Hey Steel, I was wondering if you could take a look at this discussion and perhaps give an impartial opinion. I'm having a hard time expaining why OR, no matter how obvious in editors' opinion should not be in the article if it cannot be sourced. Of cource, I could be wrong on the issue myself, hence my need for an outside opinion. Thanks in advance. Tani unit 20:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

SHODAN is the main antagonist of the system shock 1/2. The games definitely have next to nothing to do with martial arts. Apparently the guy argues that in reality developers used Sho Dan (Japanese martial arts rank) as a basis for the name. He deems it obvious enough to not have to source it (and he couldn't if he tried, I looked for info myself). My explanations about this being nothing but OR can't seem to make a point. The 1138 thing is just one of the many (dozens) of codes and acces sequences in the game, with no sources either. In short, it seems to be a case of unfamiliarity with the policy. Tani unit 21:33, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, hopefully this will resolve itself once the editors in question make themselves more familiar with the policy. Tani unit 21:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I know, but the problem is, they don't seem to understand my explanations, and if were to delete the trivia, it would probably escalate into an edit war. As long as they bother to read the policy it shouldn't be a problem though. Tani unit 21:56, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: MGS3

That sounds good, although I'm sure I'll have to inadvertently deal with annoying editors as well (looks like you've had a wonderful time with them so far, from what I can tell). I'll help you with sourcing as well (if I can find some nice stuff). --Onlynameicanget 14:48, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I've found some interviews and put them in your sandbox. (I also added some reviews that concisely point out many of the game's weak and strong points.) Interviews for this game are not as easy to find, but we can still get a few good sources out of them. Hope that helps a bit! --Onlynameicanget 15:30, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

SSBB

Don't change my goddamn edit on Solid Snake again. I said he has the apperance of MGS2, while you persist to stupidly think it's his Twin Snakes costume. IT ISN'T. In the trailer and that one screen shot, Snake is obviously wearing the outfit he had from MGS2. He also has his MGS2 look, which is the mullet and beard. He did not have either of those in TTS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Breakdown2218 (talkcontribs)

Re: MGS3 Edge mention

Hi again,

I noticed you reverted the rewording I did on MGS3, regarding its Edge review. I still think that the term "harsh" when refering to the magazine's review strategy could be misconstrued as meaning "overly harsh", which it is, in fact, notable for being very consistent (albeit geared towards giving only exceptionally good games high scores and exceptionally bad games low scores). Perhaps another word would be appropriate?

Hyperspacey 00:07, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, yes, I'll try and come up with a suitable replacement too (I'm a bit of an Edge fan m'self). Seems I keep reading people's Talk pages as if they're the people doing the talking. Don't mind me, I'm just slow. Hyperspacey 00:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Strident, nes pas?

Hyperspacey 00:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Roughly equivalent to "strident, will that do?". The word "strident" usually refers to things which are minimal, functional, clean, consistent... like Edge review scores (except that bloody ZOE2 4/10, what were they thinking? etc moan moan etc). Hyperspacey 00:28, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, they could certainly be called "harsh", but it might be best — for Wiki purposes — to say "who are known for their uncompromisingly strict standards in reviews" instead. They're not harsh so much for the sake of it, I think, as they really believe in holding games to as high a standard as any other work. Hope that helps, guys. Ryu Kaze 00:34, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Shadow

Which one? Ryu Kaze 21:43, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh. XD Sorry. I'm pretty tired today and didn't catch it. Nice one. XD
I won't go quite as overboard on Shadow's page as I did Final Fantasy VII's, though, I promise. Ryu Kaze 21:50, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I really felt like that game required that level of sourcing (that, and there was just so much stuff to source). Ryu Kaze 21:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: MGS3 image

I found it from Google image search; the image itself came from a website whose page isn't working (at least not for me). The image was posted in a forum on some French website, so we probably won't end up using it. I'm going to try and find a similar image from a better source. --NateDan 23:40, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: MGS3 Story

Cheers for the comment, it's appreciated- I've just started back as a freelance games journalist and this stuff is great practise. I admit there's still stuff that isn't emphasised enough, I'll touch it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hyperspacey (talkcontribs)

Ahhh. I was aware of the bug, but not that it had been fixed. Thanks much. :) Luna Santin 23:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Steel!

On Kpjas' RFA, you have voted oppose based on his apparent lack of experience ("Complete lack of edits to projectspace and (user)talkspace given the time he/she has been here"). In fact, Kpjas is already an admin on the Polish Wikipedia, and has 37,000 edits there, including 2,600 to WP space over there. You have voted oppose based on inexperience in WP space, but these facts clearly indicate plenty of experience in the required areas. Steel, you want an experienced editor for admin. Kpjas is clearly experienced. Without badgering you, I urge you to reconsider your vote in this particular RfA. Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 07:39, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Steel,
Thanks for your note, and your swift response. However you decide to !vote, thank you for at least looking into the matter. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 10:33, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing the matter, and your note on my talk page. Happy editing, Steel! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 10:54, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

MGS characters: Meryl Silverburgh

On a side note to you, thank you for supporting my first attempt at editing. I am a major fan of MGS and want to help out on the material even if it's a problem to weave in the many theories that the MGS games present. I don't know what your position on Meryl is but regardless thank you for your help. I do hope to add more to Ocelot and Otacon w/out getting warnings but that may prove difficult. As it stands, my purpose is to add the info I can that is talked about and discussed by the MGS community. Here was my reply to the other user:

: Here's my first attempt at an explanation regarding this info. Of course not everything in relations to MGS can be 100% fact and some of it is based on speculation. I'm sure if you're an MGS fan you have heard this before regarding Meryl's torture but even as horrible as it sounds, it goes without saying that certain dialogue and events lead people to the conclusion of Meryl's rape.

: When you save her in MGS, she mentions going through pain and shame all while not giving in to her torture and "things worse than that". Now I do recall an article here about women being raped and tortured during wars (even events where that were denied abortions and had to suffer embarassment of having the unwanted child and I think that means of abuse may apply to Meryl's case given this is a stealth and war themed game. Not many fans can think of many things that are shameful and worse than torture other than rape.

: Also the character of Volgin strengthened this theory since we can safely say Volgin has sexually abused EVA. To be fair, it is argued that it was EVA's mission to get close to Volgin, but that aside she obviously expresses pain and suffering from her whip marks and when Volgin shocks her. It is heavily implied that the character of Volgin inspired Ocelot's twisted sadist side since MGS3 is in ways, a prequel to the series and shows Ocelot express interest in torture after Volgin does it to Snake and Sokolov.

: With that, this argument has had many people come to that conclusion and it even has gained Meryl's character more respect in the MGS community considering her rookie nature, she was able to withstand horrible acts done to her (being shot at by Wolf as well) and overcame all that for Solid Snake. That was my reasonoing behind it as well as the fact that I saw this theory posted before but it was removed prior to her article being shortened and part of a list.

: Still I wish to place it back like it was originally not only for the reasons above not to mention that it also leaves room for interpretation in the MGS community to her role in MGS4 and for the possibility of why Snake and Meryl broke up. MGS4 can go into further detail why since not much is explained as to why they fell in love and fell apart. -- juggernaut88 Talk 00:12, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

GIen's RfA: Thank you!

Steel359 for your Support!
I I feel truly humbled & honored by your support in my RfA, which closed at 90 / 5 / 0. Thank you! If you need me for anything, just say the word. For now however, just like Mr Potter here:
My mop & I shall thwart all evil :)
IThank you once again my friend. GIen

Bowser

I proposed a move from Bowser (Nintendo) to Bowser, but it appears you made an edit that means you oppose the move. Why don't you put the reason on Talk:Bowser (Nintendo)?? Georgia guy 01:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

An FAC

In case you've got some time to glance over it, I've got (video game music composer) Frank Klepacki sitting in FAC. I blew a tire from working on it seven or eight hours yesterday, so my strategic distance is toast. I'll probably do some kind of hardcopy or reference-less copyediting today, but I'm asking for assistance on a few talk pages just in case. Thanks for considering. --Zeality 15:33, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia's LGBT Community

Hi, Steel359!
You've indicated through various means (a userbox, membership in a category, etc) that you are part of the Wikipedia LGBT community, or are interested in Wikipedia's LGBT related pages. Welcome!

You may not know that Wikipedia has both an LGBT Notice Board and an LGBT Studies WikiProject. If you haven't yet done so, take a look at both of them. They sorely need attention and participation!

Some things on the "To-Do List" that merit particular attention include:

  1. Identifying topics/pages that need attention
  2. Identifying problems that need addressing
  1. Adding the LGBT template to appropriate pages
  2. Categorizing LGBT pages

Please feel free to participate in any or all of these activities! And if you feel like it, add yourself to either the Noticeboard Members or the WikiProject Participants - or both!

Glad you're a part of Wikipedia - and Thanks! This invitation posted here by SatyrTN -- talk
Please remove it if you so desire.

Thank you

I greatly appreciate your calm presence at talk:Bowser (Nintendo). Just zis Guy you know? 18:19, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to thank you Steel359 for either supporting, opposing, commenting, nominating, reading, editing, promoting and/or anything else that you may have done for my successful request for adminship (I've broken the one thousand sysop barrier!); I'm thanking you for getting involved, and for this I am very grateful. I hope to be able to serve Wikipedia more effectively with my new tools and that we can continue to build our free encyclopedia, for knowledge is power, but only wisdom is liberty. Please do feel free to get in touch if you feel you can improve me in any way; I will be glad to listen to all comments. Again, thanks 8)             —Xyrael / 12:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: MGS3

Hey, Steel. I can't make any promises, but if I get the chance, I'll attempt a copyedit. At a glance, though, it looks pretty good in there. Ryu Kaze 16:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I'd love to help copyedit, but I'm on a short wikibreak to regather my strength :) — Deckiller 17:05, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

What is the different between semi-protection and full protection? --GoOdCoNtEnT 23:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't understand the different and thought it was a different color of the template. :) --GoOdCoNtEnT 23:38, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

JzG

Steel, I hope you can see why I have an attitude towards JzG. Just recently in a discussion, he referred to you as "one of my own", as if CVG editors always work together. I just have a problem respecting anyone that ignorant and egotistical. - A Link to the Past (talk) 17:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Empires Gameplay

I recognize the fact that you and A Man In Black wanted the article deleted, but I don't think it was proper for him to redirect it. It was just in an AFD two weeks ago and was voted no consensus. If you want to put it in another AFD, that's fine, but redirecting without any consensus was a little rash. Plus Empires: Dawn of the Modern World may be failed because of the gameplay's deletion. What are your thoughts? --Clyde Miller 21:35, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

(by the way I know your my "enemy" in this since you want it bye-bye, but thanks for helping anyway) What should I do now? Is there some place I should go to have someone look at this and come up with a solution? (and I think that the gameplay section is rather pathetic without the main article about it. It may be failed because of that, but then again you have more experience so I'm really not sure). --Clyde Miller 21:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
P.S. What about here?
Thanks for the help. I guess I should wait for A Man in Black to Respond, and see if he says anything, considering this really involves him too, and he hasn't said a word. --Clyde Miller 22:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I had just recently been made aware that because the same LGBT stuff come up for deletion so often that we should always put the date down, so that people do not mistakenly think that they had already voted to keep it. Granted the discussion was about Categories but wouldn't the same hold true for Articles? CyntWorkStuff 19:13, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

True. But if you look at the format I used, it had a direct link to (exact match to what is now proper Category format). The first part takes you directly to the Article in question and the second link take you directly to the Dicussion on that same article AND lists the date it was proposed. No scrolling involved. CyntWorkStuff 19:38, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
You realize that it comes in two parts and the first part does just that, it goes directly to the article. As far as I can tell the reason for the second bit (which jumps directly to the discussion) is so that we can know that something may have once again been proposed for deletion and is in many ways peculiar to entries having to do with the LGBT community. If you edit the "Categories for discussion" section directly adjacent to the "Articles for deletion" section you will see the format and the reasoning in a Comment area. But I'm not an Admin so it's really not my call. Just pointing out what I saw as a positive cost/benefit analysis. CyntWorkStuff 20:03, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

I didn't even notice that. You have to love it when someone changes the userbox template and you don't notice for a whole month.... --After Midnight 0001 00:56, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Banjo-Kazooie Characters

You stated that all the Banjo-Kazooie characters shouldn't have their own articles in the talk page for Banjo Bear. I have thought of an idea, if they can't keep their own articles then can't they be grouped up by related characters? For example an article for Bottles' family, an article for Gruntilda's family, etc. Of course your suggestion of the list for all of them could work too. SNS 00:14, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Metal Gear Solid 3

Hello. I recently read the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater article and am very impressed with its quality. I'm assuming that with your significant amount of contribution to it that you're mostly responsible. However, I'm curious as to why it has not at least been nominated for Good article status yet, albeit rated an A-class article. I can see in the task box there are a few adjustments that need to be made, but it would seem these fixes are planned for a featured article-future of the article. ~ Hibana 10:13, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
