Top Gear

While I definitely agree with you that a recency effect sure makes things difficult in making an article balanced, it isn't impossible. I watched The West Wing (TV series) be brought up to FA status during its final season and it was smooth for the most part. I guess it depends on the type of editors who edit the article. TWW had a few active editors who were able to keep the cruft down because it wasn't very heavily edited by newbies. The newbies usually are the ones who make articles quite bloated as they haven't really had a chance to get accustomed to Wikipedia standards. TG gets edited by all sorts of people, including a lot of newbies, so it would definitely be more challenging. (Disclaimer, it isn't always just the newbies, they just have a propensity to do so). Manuscript paper

Please don't call external links "spam" unless they are. Short of finding an image that was definitely usable under our ever-more arcane and hard-line licensing system, I thought that giving links to a couple of free-download sites was the best way of providing an illustration of the subject. The image is fine, though limited (for example, it's printed up ready for a piano piece; most manuscript paper before the advent of downloading was not pre-printed with clefs, nor arranged in sets of double staves). The trouble is, of course, that the article is too short as it stands to justify more than one image. XORG editing

Thanks for the help, yes I would very much so like to link the term XORG to what I had posted originally but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. I'm thinking of editing the MMORPG page to include my definition of an XORG as it doesn't fit in the MMOFPS category due to it being 1st a MMORPG, and 2nd a shooting game. Hi Stephen, thanks for the copyedit. Just one query, the reason I didn't put the referendum link above the lead para is because it then infers that it is further information about the subject matter of the sub-heading and not just further info about the subject matter of the lead para of the sub-heading. Hmmm... all good points and ones which I have not come across references for yet. The idea of the lead para that I wrote was not to create a section on Indigenous rights over the two decade period and its affect on Palm. The reason I wrote it was that the Wilson Study seemed to naturally belong in that time period setting of which we had no sub-section to that point (when I started I didn't think it would become big enough to warrent its own section, you are right though in demonstrating that it does), so the referendum stuff was more as a lead in paragraph providing context for non-Australians as to the time periods relation to general Australian history... so I guess the aim would have been for the 'Aboriginal natives shall be counted' 1967-1985 section to end up similar to the 'Penal settlement' 1920s-60s in content and style, with the referendum stuff there to provide a context and a nifty title for the section, however at this point (having just created the sub-section) the only info I had to put into the sub-section was the Wilson Study.

I don't mind the restructure, however I think it even more demonstrates the need to move all the history and notable events stuff out of the main article and into a new history article, there's just too much history and it dwarfs the article.

I fully agree with the WWII stuff being moved out of the history section and have been meaning to do so myself, would be great if you could find some info to expand it and possibly a pic.

In summary, I made the bold-faced assertion that you had weakened an article by making a certain edit. I'm writing today to ask how that interaction seems to you now. I will look into getting those maps clarified possibly next week some time, I recently found out that my brother tried to post the same maps on the internet, but this was for google earth. What he did was place the map over a modern day image of Sydney, then make the map semi transparent so you could compare the difference, he contacted Gregorys about this and they denied permission to post these maps becuase there was some conflict of interest.

I think with wikipedia it might be a little different, but I will look into it next week sometime and get back to you. Thanks Mindys12345 09:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Also with the Sydney explorer if the map is deleted you might as well delete the entire article because there would be no point having there without the map, but I will also look into that as well. Hi Stephen and thanks for responding on my talk page. The CARE system calls seniors to remind them to take medication based upon a calendar and a custom message telling them what meds to take and when. As I mentioned above, the original wiki link pointed directly to the section in the article regarding this but the heading was modified. Sherwood Dungeon

I believe that it was you who posted a speedy delete tag on the article, Sherwood Dungeon. Despite having read the the general criteria for speedy deletion, both before I created the article, and upon reading the message left on my talk page, I fail to see how it "exclusively promotes a company, product, group, service, or person". The article, Sherwood Dungeon, informs the reader of a free to use game, without "blatantly advertising" it. Having looked at multiple articles of online games, it is difficult for me to see how Sherwood Dungeon is different than World of Warcraft. Taking this as an example, the only two major differences between these two games are,

• World of Warcraft has a much larger fan/subscription base than Sherwood Dungeon.
• And World of Warcraft is a subscription based game, thereby making it much more beneficial for World of Warcraft to attract consumers, rather than Sherwood Dungeon, a game free of obligations.

Another of the general criteria for speedy deletion, is that it is notable enough to be included in an Encyclopedia. Personally, although you may feel otherwise, I, and quite possibly the other frequenters of Wikipedia's Sherwood Dungeon article, probably feel that this online game is more notable, than Totally Circus, an article dealing with a 7 year old, now defunct Disney TV show, that ran for one summer. Totally Circus has attracted about 13 edits in the last 10 months, which is more a function of obscurity, than one of a interesting, well-written article. After reading in depth the regulations of speedy deletions, the only possible transgression that I found was that Sherwood Dungeon, links to it's host site. However, World of Warcraft links to its host site as well, but under the heading of "External Links: Official Sites". Sherwood Dungeon links to its host through the text at the very beginning. If this was what led you to post a speedy delete tag on it, than I urge you to change the article itself, rather than deleting it. Also, the Sherwood Dungeon page was on Wikipedia for a number of months, before being deleted. If you would like to discuss this further, I would enjoy having a discussion. However, if there is no response to this message within a week, I will recreate the article under the assumption that I persuaded you of my views toward this page. ~Wyvern642~ 14:48, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I am fairly certain that there are multiple articles from independent sources reviewing/talking about Sherwood Dungeon, but I will leave it to your judgement. Also, I was musing writing an article on LogoMation, a turtle-like programming language. Do you think it is notable enough? It is used as a programming teaching aid at my school, and throughout the OCDSB. Logo is the basis for this software, and Logo is certainly well documented. I appreciate your time. Aloha e Stephen. Thanks for bringing me to light on this matter of music copyrights. I will research the issue for the lyrics to ʻEkolu Mea Nui. Please keep in mind though what I mentioned earlier. While not the case in this particular song, most Hawaiian music will not have a copyright. The Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) did not have a written language before the arrival of the missionaries. Prior to their arrival, ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, (the Hawaiian Language), was oral only. A lot of Hawaiian songs you hear today have been around LONG before the missonaries arriced in Hawaiʻi. The songs have been passed down through the generations. For this reason, there are a lot of Hawaiian songs that no one knows exactly where they originated or when. Mahalo ā nui i kou kōkua. Stephen, I am not having the best of luck thus far tracking down the copyright. One person that I talked to said that they believe that NO copyright exists for this song and pointed me in a different direction. Question though. If I were to put something to the effect of "The lyrics as they appear on this page are the contributor's interpretation of the song and may not be correct." Emerald Journals

Stephen, there are about 100 journals from that company, of which about 1/2 might merit articles. The necessary checking is best done in batches, because I need to use multiple logons to get to the different databases to check. (There is another highly important one, Ulrichs, that I haven't done yet for the other 3.) I would really be grateful if you could hold off on others until we get the current group disposed of. If for example they are all to be converted into subarticles or list items, there is much less checking necessary, and any which are to be full articles, if that is the consensus, need to be fleshed out. I don't want to do unnecessary work on this. I think we have enough to start on--I want to try to at least start the Emerald article itself tonight. Then I want to add the whole title list, and link the ones with articles, and make sections of the ones with content, though I'm not sure what will be the most concise way to do it. Do you happen to know whether there is code for a 2 column list, or do I need to use a table.? DGG 02:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

More about this sort of article--I'm going to ask the only people who are working on journals lists &c, but I thought I'd ask you first

1. For merged sections for the minor journals, there isn't really much more to say than the info from the home page, so it might as well be a list with a link to the home page. However the journals people will think it very desirable that there be redirects from the titles, and that can only be done with sections.
2. but looking ahead to Springer and Elsevier, each with over 1000 journals of which at least 75% will be notable, doing even 2 line sections for 250 journals seems a little awkward,
3. The journals people had hoped to do categories, one for each publisher, but that shouldn't duplicate a list. So if they want to get all their titles in one place, I think we're stuck with lists. I thought I couldn't do a category with a redirect but probably I can with the pipe trick. What I want to avoid is having more prominence to the worse publishers just because they're smaller & the large ones are too difficult to deal with. This will obviously take a little experiment. Hmm, I guess you misunderstood me. What I mean is that warnings have an increasing level of severity and two warnings of the same level are unnecessary. Usually you drop a warning after reverting one (or more) vandalism edits, and post a more severe warning if the vandal vandalizes after that. And so on, until the vandal is reported to WP:AIV after violating a final warning. Multiple warnings of the same level may confuse administrators checking a vandal's talk page and eventually cause delays in blocking them. The process is unrelated to a user's time zone, Wikipedia uses UTC for all users. I'm not in the United States either. :-) Regards, Húsönd 23:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Eric's birthday

Eric's birthday is completely incorrect- by 2 days!!!! It's 25th April 2007. THE MAPS

No the maps have nothing to do my brother, I explained that he once tried to use them for something else and he got turned down. I sent her the email with the link to wikipedia to let her know that this is what they are going to used for, she replied saying its okay, then I sent her another link of the image page with logos and the maps together. your the only only one that seems to be worried about this. I think you don't like the maps being there, thats it.

That image is from a legitimate Wikipedia article. If people find it offensive then maybe it should be removed. If it is from a legitimate article then it can not be considered a personal attack to be linked on some talk page. Why would a bloke be offended anyway. I find the micro penis image very offensive. I have only seen it once but I got upset when I saw it.
