TfD nomination of Template:Campaignbox al-Qaeda attacks[edit]

Template:Campaignbox al-Qaeda attacks has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. --— Indon (reply) — 15:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Palm Island[edit]

No worries. I think with this level of citation it should be an FA candidate.--Grahamec 02:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent job on the sourcing and fixing the suggestions. I'd recommend looking through the FAC guidelines and consider taking it to FA. --Nehrams2020 03:23, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) I've always been here, just with a crappy internet connection over the last month, however things seem to be working out now so fingers crossed. WikiTownsvillian 05:12, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jokes With Einstein[edit]

I thought it would be fine to post this, as the page for Tiny Plaid Ninjas had a successful page. Could you please explain that inconsistency? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaeamil (talkcontribs) 20:39, 4 March 2007

Well, I don't know that a list of people who meet a certain criteria can be copyrighted. It's not like, say, Rolling Stone's 100 greatest albums, which is something they decide, but rather a collection of information in a particular order. The user should be warned that copying and pasting is bad, of course, but I don't think that this qualifies as a copyvio. I could, of course, be wrong. I don't think that this sort of listing is encyclopedic (nor maintainable), and so deciding to delete it via AFD means we can eliminate future reincarnations that may not be a copy and paste job. I'm willing to listen to arguments regarding zapping it now, though. -- Merope 01:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Usurpation[edit]

You betcha. =D Now we just hope the bcrats like it, too, heh. – Luna Santin (talk) 21:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

West Australia Musicians[edit]

I thought you might be amused or not, to know that I had proposed to other editors that we put hidden wiki editing instructions in each article - Perth, West Oz - in the music sections to get the red link enthusiasts to put their favourite group at the list first so that we could then sort the dross from the gross (i suppose thats one way to differentiate some of the music they seem so keen about) otherwise the totally ahisotrical geeks (born since 2000 it almost seems) who seem to think groups x are the greatest since kylie mingogue or whatever. The big problem is that the west oz eds who put this stuff in are unlikely to be the ones who'll read the stuff in the wa project talk page... sigh - i might have to sort this out with a couple of eds who are as ignorant as i of some of the weird and wonderful in the list. If anyone tries me to jump the afd - I'll insist that they go and try to edit the Gary Lucas article - as the self sustained self advert article that for some bizarre reason no on has actually pulled apart to make it an encyc article... Oh well have a quiet weekend, no wa grunge i hope. :) SatuSuro 08:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Falling Sand Game[edit]

Sorry about that, I really believed that it was deleted via a prod, and wasn't aware it went further than that. That's why I neglected looking at the pink box. I'll be more careful from now on. - Zero1328 Talk? 09:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you very much for your message, it really meant a lot. :) Take care, Sarah 19:42, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jackp and RaptorRobot...[edit]

User:RaptorRobot was recently blocked as being a sock of Jackp. This is now being challenged. If you have anything to add please do so on User:RaptorRobot. thanks Merbabu 21:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sister cities...[edit]

I agree with you that sister cities of Sydney should be listed under City of Sydney, however, given that there is enough misunderstanding of this and that the Sydney article is constantly changed accordingly, could we perhaps consider putting in a simple 1-sentence link to this point? Something like Sister city relationships are under the auspices of the City of Sydney? Rather than pretending the confusion doesn't exist, such a reference might actually stop continued addition of Sister city lists in Sydney. Merbabu 21:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BillSPrestonEsq[edit]

This is a real person who annonymously aids in the advising of others and has done so for years now (approximately 4 years). He is known by enough people to at least warrant a small article on Wiki. I am uncertain of what else to add to make it a legitimate article other than the sources I already provided. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lightknight77 (talkcontribs) 02:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

List of academic conferences[edit]

I've reverted your recent edit to List of academic conferences because it made no sense to me. The conference listings were definitely not spam, although they were verbose; and your changes to the headings completely destroyed the structure.

I'm not sure if it makes sense to try to list the tens of thousands of conferences that take place every year but it's a harmless activity that other people seem to want, and the alternative is lots of short, poorly linked articles about the individual conferences.

andy 07:39, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a suggestion on the AfD page for List of conferences for how to handle this with categories; before i go to a great deal of trouble to make them all, I would like your opinion. See the List of conferences in computer science to see how one subject group organized this--I took this as a mode; the quality of the listings would then depend as it should on the desires of the people in the subject, and they would be much less attractive to spam. .DGG 10:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have, by the way, userified all the lists I canf ind to keep them available after the reworking. DGG 09:55, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Musical geniuses of west oz[edit]

Thanks for the second prod - the main recent editor has now got a homework copy (unlinked) on his sub page and he agrres on the talk page - so he has no problem so its almost on its way ! cheers SatuSuro 11:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was disingeniously described this afternoon as a wikistalker, ho hum - and I thought of this as I inserted mention of the bulletin at the IAVCEI article that you started. The reason was that I had a long and difficult relationship with Gunung Merapi in central Java- as my wife lived within 4 km of the top for a while before she married me. As a consequence - as a non geologist (well a geological field assistant a few times) my haunting a number of libraries for the bulletin and a few others in the days before the internet became such a repository - the bulletin was the main attraction of the iavcei's work - and some damned good vulcanologists have trod the slopes of merapi in the last thirty years. I thought I'd explain now rather than later...:) cheers SatuSuro 12:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
heheh and thank you for your response... A good reminder! SatuSuro 00:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarity Systems[edit]

Unfortunately, I don't actually know what to do to "fix" the article. I based it on other, similar company profiles that were not contested. I left out anything I thought looked like marketing-speak or advertising. Would more third-party media references help? Any assistance or enlightenment would be most welcome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcbaker (talkcontribs) 11:01, 14 March 2007

Hi Stephen.

You nominated The Social capital foundation article for speedy deletion. But it has already been through an AFD (see here)and survived, making speedy deletion inappropriate. I've removed the speedy tag.

TSCF seem to have tried to promote their organization, journal and ideas on Wikipedia, I've done some chasing around to clean up in the past. But they are a significant player in academic civil society circles, so they should be covered in the encyclopedia. The article's already had a couple of editors trawl through and remove some of the more blatant marketing speak last summer. If there's something in particular about the article that stands out for you let me know and I'll have a go at fixing it. -- Siobhan Hansa 13:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Heads' up re: AfD[edit]

Thanks, I've had a look again... this is the problem with multiple-article AfD's I guess. Some people will have different opinions for each article. Garrie 01:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Brooke Hogan Untitled, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

Sorry. My mistake. I guess I forgot to look in the history. Sorry! 1312020Wikicop 02:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CHU/U[edit]

Well the current policy states that "the account must have no edits or log entries". That's why I had renamed you to the alternate account. PS I have moved all your userpages while renaming, so no need to do those. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know, buts that's not covered in current policy. I too have no qualms in giving you that username, but the implications of such an action needs to be discussed first. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:39, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I only saw Rdsmith's post there, but we don't have a mandate to take over another username. What if the person returns to wikipedia and requests his name. This would need to be discussed on WP:BN first. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:19, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Re: Abortion rights categories[edit]

I have reintroduced the "opposing abortion rights" category with as {{hangon}} tag to give it more time. I have also made the inclusion criteria more specific. I would appreciate it if you would hold off a little longer this time on recommending deletion until more articles are put into the category. Thank you. Treybien 03:28 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Please don't close debates early. thank you. --badlydrawnjeff talk 00:52, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be a law of nature that although I probably agree with badlydrawnjeff more often than 90% of admins, we can never be on the same side for two discussion in a row. With 14 keeps to a single nominator's delete, after a deletion overturned on the basis of no reasonable deletion result being presented, I think your closing of this AfD was completely appropriate. Newyorkbrad 01:05, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but knowing how completely absurd the situation became, I saw no reason to slap the guy in the face by saying "Your concerns are meaningless to us." I don't even think he's been online since his responses this morning, so I can't imagine he'll be pleased when he gets back. --badlydrawnjeff talk 01:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And if it were 25 to 1, instead of 14 to 1, he'd be more pleased? Full credit for extending all courtesies even to your philosophical opponents, though. Newyorkbrad 01:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
At least he wouldn't have anything else to bitch about. *shrug* Whatever, though, obviously it's not that big a deal at this stage or I would have DRV'd the closure. --badlydrawnjeff talk 01:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thank you for little favors for not doing it. Someone would have snowballed that; I sense an infinite regress paradox if we continue along these lines. :) Newyorkbrad 02:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support on my Request for Administration[edit]

Top Gear Dog[edit]

There has been a huge debate on the whole Top Gear Dog status thing on the Top Gear discussion page. She was introduced as a "new presenter" at the beginning of series 8. A consensus had been reached for this to be displayed as is, on the Top Gear page unless things dramatically change in the new series. Davesmith33 13:09, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your support on my Request for adminship, which was successful, with votes of 49/0/0.

Peacekeeping[edit]

The table looks great; I think including mission leaders is more important than fatalities since we're probably more likely to get an article on the higher-ups that a soldier KIA. There are a few books on Australians and peacekeeping - if you have access to a good library it might be worth getting a hold of some. We also need to work out a way to incorporate the Korean War into the article - while obviously not a peacekeeping mission, Australian participated in the war under the banner of the UN. --Peta 02:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
