ARCHIVE 3: 2016

With regards to this reversion of the promotion of a DYK nomination you submitted, do you care to explain the reason for the reversion. If you have no reason then I will assume that you do not wish the Betty Brosmer article to have the image slot it currently holds and replace it with another option. --Allen3 talk 17:10, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

References needed for Soyuz 3[edit]

I found that you were the one who first added citation references to the Soyuz 3 article back on August 10, 2010 (this diff). God bless you for doing this. But unfortunately, you forgot to add some basic information, such as the titles of the works you cited; you only provided author names and years. And of course, no one in the intervening years seems to have noticed this and provided the missing titles. This makes identification of the works impossible. Could you please take a moment to look these up and add them, or at least post them here or at the article talk page? Thanks. JustinTime55 (talk) 18:37, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ref added to Battle of Valmy[edit]

Hello. You seem to be curating this article at present. Just to let you know, I dug into my copy of The French Revolution to find the relevant page so as to remove the "citation needed" for the Carlyle quote in the Battle section. You may wish to reformat my reference so it better fits the formatting of the other references. Also, this passage in Carlyle depicts the situation prior to the battle, while its placement in the article implies the situation after the battle, so the whole paragraph should perhaps be moved.Wreck Smurfy (talk) 01:17, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Wreck Smurfy[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested help![edit]

Good evening SteveStrummer! Thank you so much for reaching out to me, I've hit, what seems like, an extremely long roadblock with my course assignment. What suggestions might you have? BTW, thanks again! Nmora052 (talk) 01:07, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nmora052, I don't know what your contributions are supposed to be like, but I think you could add to the idea of Saint-Just as the "Angel of Death" – describe other individuals he had guillotined who are not currently fleshed out, like Desmoulins, or describe why he was the "public face of the Terror" and not Robespierre or other Committee members. Also you might expand on his military activities – for instance, some sources say he personally joined the fighting at Fleurus, I hope this helps a little? SteveStrummer (talk) 02:47, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I was having a hard time figuring out what to add only because I could not find any sources with new information, but I will get right to it. Nmora052 (talk) 15:54, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at Choosing Terror: Virtue, Friendship and Authenticity in the French Revolution by Marisa Linton if you can? SteveStrummer (talk) 18:51, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to get a hold of Choosing Terror: Virtue, Friendship and Authenticity in the French Revolution by Marisa Linton! However, I am in the process of finishing "Saint-Just, Apostle of The Terror" by Geoffrey Bruun, just wanted to make sure this was right because I am not sure if I am understanding this correctly: the start of the Terror was because of conflicts between the Committee of Public Safety and the factions? Also, due to Saint-Just's letters, the commander of the Army of the Rhine, Hoche, was arrested? Thanks for your help. Nmora052 (talk) 20:05, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Saint-Just, along with his buddy Charles Pichegru, definitely did put the screws to Hoche, and that would be a very worthwhile addition. As for the cause of the Terror: essentially yes, but that's so debatable that I would only say so via a direct quotation from a historian. SteveStrummer (talk) 21:15, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here is why I say this, in Saint-Just, Apostle of The Terror by Geoffrey Bruun chapter VIII: The Proconsul of Terror, it mainly talks about the conflicts between the Committee of Public Safety, the Army of the Rhine, the Army of the North, and the Army of the Moselle, causing thousands and thousands of deaths. But then again, I haven't finished the book yet so I see what you mean. I'm still in the process of understanding his character and what all of his actions meant during this time! Nmora052 (talk) 14:29, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Snowden[edit]

Hey, just a note that my revert on Edward Snowden was an accident. I supported your edit and I think I accidentally hit undo without realizing. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 00:17, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I was wondering about that, and indeed a little sad to be in disagreement with you. Thank you for letting me know! SteveStrummer (talk) 01:25, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your editing so far. While you're in the process of streamlining the article, something it very much deserves, I encourage you to take a stab at trimming some of the excessive use of quotations. The editor who added most of the "meat" to the article had a tendency to include a quotation in every single sentence, I believe because she was trying to preempt verifiability or wording concerns. The problem is that the cumulative effect of this was to create an article that is excessively detailed and lacking in encyclopedic voice. My most recent edit was an example of how I think these issues should be addressed, though going through the article sentence-by-sentence like this is painstaking work. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 16:24, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article certainly does need much more conversion to prose, and I'll do all I can. I'm working in my slowest, most conservative mode because of the article's extreme sensitivity, but I do plan to see it through. It is, however, possibly the most painstaking task I've ever undertaken on WP – I'll be taking frequent breaks from this topic for my sanity. SteveStrummer (talk) 20:30, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well you're doing a great job so far. I hope you keep it up, at whatever pace you're comfortable with. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 20:37, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I now have a couple of edits that I'm wondering if you or someone else can insert/modify in the article. The edits are as below:

1. I have changed my party affiliation from Green Party to NPP (No Party Preference), which is a voter registration category in the state of California. Since I am no longer a member of the Green Party, please change the second sentence of the article to say this: A former member of the Green Party of California, she was first elected to the City Council of Richmond, California in 2004.

2. Also, under my photo where it says Political Party, it should no longer say Green Party of the United States, but should say: No Party Preference - NPP

I put this request on my talk page as well, but don't know how this works...and how long it might be before anyone sees it and responds to it. Thought I might try directly with you.

@Gayle McLaughlin:, I made these and all the other changes we discussed so far: I hope they look good to you! Let me know if I can be of any help, anytime. You always have my permanent, enthusiastic support! SteveStrummer (talk) 21:55, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Many, many thanks Steve! I read your message on my talk page and am so grateful to you for saving my wikipage when deletion was suggested. Also grateful for all the 'tips' you've given me. You have done a great job and have helped enormously. I also want to share with you that I have recently declared my candidacy for Lt. Governor of California 2018 which dovetails with my(and the RPA's) encouragement of cities and communities all over California to build progressive alliances. I (along with others in the RPA) have been giving presentations all over the state sharing our Richmond experience. If you have a moment, please check out my campaign website gayleforcalifornia.org . It shares more about the nature, distinction, and issues of this campaign we are running. Again thank you...whether you realize it fully or not, you have done a great public service. Please let's stay in touch...and if you are ever in the Bay Area, let me know. Contact info on my website. Gayle McLaughlin (talk) 08:05, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Gayle McLaughlin:, I deeply appreciate your very kind message. I'm also thrilled to see your latest candidacy! I visited your website and I may indeed contact you there. I'll try to keep updating your article myself, but unfortunately I work at a terribly slow pace these days. For the past 3 years I've been living with a serious illness, and my disabilities are worsening with time. I can now only type by great effort. But I'll do all I can while I can – this has been my #1 hobby for years and I'm not ready to stop just yet. Thank you for all your encouraging words, and best of luck to you always! Disambiguation link notification for January 25[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Miranda July, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page IFC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Repetition?[edit]

Sorry but where is régiment de Flandre duplicated in the March on Versailles article. Not every reader of Wikipedia would know the meaning of Flandre and a translation would appear appropriate at the same point in the text as those of the other military units involved in the banquet. Buistr (talk) 01:24, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The French term is not used at all on the page. Schama uses only the English form, and this seems a little unnecessary. @Buistr:, I think you're a very good editor and I particularly value your contributions to French topics. I'm sorry to edit your work, but here I hope you'll permit me my opinions. SteveStrummer (talk) 02:02, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. Thank you for the kind comments. Buistr (talk) 07:55, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
