Ground deicing of aircraft article[edit]

One: some content is copied from De-icing. When copying content from another wikipedia article you must note that in the edit comments. See WP:CWW.

Two: why do you want to split this from De-icing?

Hi Rsjaffe:

I was not aware of the rules regarding copying stuff from one article to another. Thanks for pointing that out. I actually intended to remove some of that copied stuff from the original article when the new spun-off article is complete.

Deicing is a very large topic, and it is of major importance safety-wise in the aviation industry. I think the current deicing article, which talks about roads, runways, in-flight de-icing, and other things, is too broad to do justice to the aviation ground deicing aspects of it.

Similarly the "deicing fluid" article (which I created some years ago) was renamed recently by somebody to "ground de-icing". The fluid article only talks about a very specific aspect of ground de-icing, namely the technical details of the fluids used. What is missing is an article about the why and how of ground de-icing, which I am attempting to rectify. I hope to expand the new "Aviation Ground Deicing" article to include these missing topics.

Any other suggestions you have to improve this corner of Wikipedia will be gratefully received.

Could you, once you get this closer to what you're wanting the article to look like, ping me by replying to this message and using the template {{u|Rsjaffe}} in your reply? I've marked the article as under review since I figured it would take a while to figure this all out. In the meantime, I won't do anything to the article and the "under review" tag tells other new page reviewers that they don't need to address any issues currently.

I do suggest making sure things are linked properly so that a reader of one article knows about the other. There's multiple ways of doing so, e.g., hatnotes, "See also" section, etc. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 23:31, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, just a thought, not a request: how about moving all the aircraft deicing (ground and in flight) to this article and rename it: Aircraft Deicing. I personally think that's a more natural way people think of the topic, and it doesn't currently look like the inflight deicing portion would make the combined article too large. Runway deicing would stay in the original article, where it would be alongside other road surface deicing entries, which makes sense to me. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 23:57, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought about creating an "Aircraft deicing" article that would include both on-ground and in-flight deicing but there is already a decent article about the latter called "Ice protection system". I think I'd prefer to leave that as is for now.

While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also.
