I had rated Clive King a little while back. I got a message asking for a reassessment after some sourcing improvement. My reassessment suggests it is still start class, but would love a second opinion. Barkeep49 (talk) 18:09, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Project Tagging

Just got around to checking your list. Seems like you've got a lot of the categories. When I have some more time later this week I'll check it against my list, which I'd started off-wiki. For some of the categories I know if it should be moved from possible or unsure into definite. Do you want to work from the list you've made there? Barkeep49 (talk) 00:45, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

  • The needs-infobox task is running. FYI Xenobot Mk V (talk · contribs) can also do the net-new tagging you guys are planning. –xenotalk 15:18, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Rating

Hi, I'd like a second opinion on this please. I've done a lot of work the The Recruit (novel) and I think that it is now either Start or C class, but probably start. Thank you. Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 19:47, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Newsletter

Hey, can you please give me a hand with the project newsletter. I have not yet looked for a delivery bot so have not got very far. Cheers, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 15:51, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
PS Please leave me a talkback template at my talk page when you reply. Thank you, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook)

I'm happy to help, but - do we really need a newsletter? I mean, there's only 3 of us at the moment. When I suggested a newsletter to the main project I got told that the project was "too small". I think it's a good idea to have some form of news, but it might be easier just to put it on the task force page. Also, you don't really need a bot for three deliveries - just do it by hand. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 14:21, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I see your thinking. We could do something like the Percy Jackson Task Force have (see here) as that might be more suitable. Cheers, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 15:05, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Jack Gantos

I had this page watched list from a long time ago and saw that you had just assessed it. Looking over the current state of the article I was mildly surprised to see it still classified as a stub. I would love to know where you think it's lacking so I could try and bring it up quickly. Barkeep49 (talk) 17:31, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response. I agree that the plot summary is way too long, is awkwardly written, and the article lacks referencing. But those problems are what you'd expect from a start class article. In particular the lack of referencing is what takes up most of the description in our quality descriptor. So to me, almost by definition, a start class article is going to lack references. Barkeep49 (talk) 17:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Congrats

Congratulations on the redesign of the project. It looks and feels fantastic. Barkeep49 (talk) 16:02, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

  1. Proposal to Close This RfC
  2. Alternate proposal to close this RFC: we don't need a whole new layer of bureaucracy

Adoption category parameters

Thanks for your work at Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption, I hope it improves the adoption tracking process. I'm not sure who else you should contact, unless you have some way to track who uses the template often. How did you discover that I do? - Draeco (talk) 14:54, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Have you thought of creating a bot to add the date parameter automatically? Cause I could see a lot of adopters being old school and not wanting to add that parameter manually each time. Of course, I have no idea how to build such a bot. - Draeco (talk) 16:52, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. I just noticed you recently created a large amount of these "Wikipedians having been offered adoption in (month) (year)" categories. Can you explain to me the encyclopedic purpose for creating these? I'm wondering what benefit we get from creating all these month and year subcategories. Thanks for the welcome. I am a relatively new 'newbie' and will be going slow while learning how to use Wikipedia. My main concern is with learning a lot of the subjects and I may edit a sentence or two when I become proficient at it. But, until then, I am mainly learning. As you saw on my Talk User page, I am attempting to make a topical index study guide for my own use in learning in an 'orderly' manner. It's just a beginning and I may have to re-edit it once in awhile. (Now if I can only remember to sign everything with the tildes!!!) SincerelyRujacgeh (talk) 16:40, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome, and a newbie question!

Thank you very much for the welcome. I really appreciated it, and found the links you provided to be most helpful. I hope you don't mind me asking a question here, but from your user page you seem pretty new-user friendly, so I hoped it might be okay!

As I've been exploring wikipedia on the subjects that interest me, I've noticed that a lot of the talk pages link to various Projects. I'd like to get involved with one or two of them, but although there is information on how to get involved, I remain unsure of any particular etiquette. I lack the confidence to just barge in and start doing stuff off the bat, but is that what's normally done? Or is it okay to join a project and then sit on the sidelines for a bit and see what other people have done/are doing? Would it be bad form for me to start adding topics to the todo list? I'm just not sure if there's any kind of protocol involved with working on specific Projects. Is there any particular approach you think I should take? Or maybe an article that relates to this that I haven't yet found? Any help or advice you can offer is appreciated. Elvie (talk) 14:37, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

CHERUB and Henderson's Boys task force Announcements

Hi Strdst grl,
As a member of the CHERUB and Henderson's Boys task force, we would like you to be aware of a few things. Firstly, please add the updates template to you userpage for all the latest news. The code is: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature/CHERUB and Henderson's Boys task force/Outreach/Updates}}. You are also asked to add one of the userboxes to your userpage, these can be found at WP:CHERUB#Join. In a bid to improve the quality of CHERUB and Henderson's Boys articles, we are beginning an "adoption" programme. To start, just go to one of the Stub-Class articles and start working on it. Thank you and happy editing, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 13:37, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Looking for some advice

Hiya Stardust, I'm sorry to be pestering you again, but I didn't really know who else to ask. I have just encountered an unpleasant situation, and I don't really know what I ought to do, and I'm also slightly worried I may have responded inappropriately. I would really welcome some advice about this. Please forgive the lengthy explanation. I have been engaged in a discussion on the talk page of United Kingdom. Some users were engaged in an edit war (which I stayed out of), and the discussion to try and reach a consensus has been ongoing for a few days. For my part it has been civil throughout, and I've enjoyed the discussion, and the research I did as a result of parts of it. There are several users in agreement on both sides of the debate. However after my last edit on the subject this evening, a random IP made a comment accusing me of being the sock puppet of another user in the debate. This was just so out of the blue, and just so completely unfounded I really felt (and feel) quite upset and offended. I replied in as civil tone as I could, but I'm wondering if I should have replied at all. I'm now regreting even participating in the discussion, and feel quite discouraged - and won't be adding to another discussion I was having on a different talk page, because I don't want to risk the hassle. I really resent having to justify myself against unfounded accusations in an article Talk Page. I also don't know if this is going to have other consequences for me. Sorry, I realise I am quite possibly over-reacting. That aside, I think I could still use some advice, since I genuinely don't know what, if anything, I should do; or if I can protect myself against these sort of nasty accusations in the future; or if I was wrong to have defended myself on the talk page. I'm sorry for putting this on you - I just don't know who else I can ask. Feel free to point me elsewhere! Thank you. Elvie (talk) 03:01, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your reassuring response. I think you were right about my talk page reply being less than ideal, and I'll know next time just to take a step back and tell myself to breathe or something! You are also right that I shouldn't let it get to me too much and stop me from contributing on here. Thank you for the links you supplied too - they were also helpful in aiding me to regain some perspective! Elvie (talk) 23:25, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Help

Hello, I've been suspected of being a sock-puppet of a previous editor. I am unsure how this claim was made. What can I do to remove this from my Talk Page as I am just new to Wikipedia. Thank you.

The Well Wisher (talk) 09:20, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Stardust, can you please verify my IP against Awliya's? Thank you. I would like the investigation to end. I give you permission.--The Well Wisher (talk) 15:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Strdst. I would like to direct you to the sockpuppet notice. A number of evidence has been provided, for example:
  • User:The Well Wisher created an account and immediately restored the contentious edits of user:Awliya. Note, three confirmed sockpuppets of Awliya did the exact same thing.
  • Like user:Awliya and confirmed sockpuppets, user:The Well Wisher contacted accounts that they have had no contact with canvassing for support.
  • Like user:Awliya and confirmed sockpuppets, user:The Well Wisher in making comments uniquely draws a line break. For example, The Well Wisher here and Awliya did the exact same thing here and here. This is evidenced on other pages as well.
I think these are important considerations. --Ari (talk) 04:10, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Boss & Chef

Dear Stardust Girl

Hi. I originated the article Julia Lezhneva which was then edited by Boss & Chef. Boss & Chef does not have a User page but does have a Talk page. You have sent him/her a Welcome message on it.

I think that they do not know how to start an Account. I'm trying to participate in discussion with them and develop the article.

I have on Boss & Chef's Talk page asked him/her to start an Account and I have left further messages for him/her on My Talk page and also with the Article.

Is there anything else I can do in this situation? Can you please reply to my Talk page? Thanks for advice. FClef (talk) 18:56, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Welcoming new users

Hello, I've noticed for a while that you are very good at welcoming new users. That's a valuable thing to do, so keep up the good work! It's obviously appreciated by new users, looking at the messages above! Could I just ask that you make a quick check of the kinds of contributions people are making? I'm not asking you to look at all their edits, of course, but I have noticed a couple of times recently that you've welcomed users whose edits have been entirely unconstructive. As I say, I wouldn't expect you to pick up everything, but, for example, you recently welcomed Evomusicrooms whose username is quite a blatant violation of our username policy, as it is promotional. The user has gone on to spam their web address (after you welcomed them, so of course you woouldn't have known that) but their draft article, which you presumably noticed them while they were editing it, has an external link to evomusicrooms.com, which is a good indication of conflicts of interest and the fact that the username is against policy. Another one that has come up today is ShakaMobile. Both of these I've reported to WP:UAA as violations of the username policy. If they hadn't been username violations, I would have left warnings about WP:COI and/or spam. Please do keep up the good work though, I don't mean to discourage you at all, just a heads up. And if you didn't already know, there are some templates at Wikipedia:Welcoming committee/Welcome templates which enable you to welcome more problematic users combining a welcome with a warning, to be less BITE-y. Regards, --BelovedFreak 18:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Peter Hessler

Per Wikipedia guidelines, "Material that fails verification may be tagged with [not in citation given] or removed. Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons should be removed immediately and not tagged or moved to the talk page." I have removed the "Biography" "Career" and "links" of this page. Mr. Hessler or the fans who created this page had plenty of time and fair warning to add sources and citations to the material, but they did not, so we must follow Wikipedia rules and immediately remove the self-serving information that previously constituted a majority of this entry. As the statement below says, this was not Mr. Hessler's personal homepage and should not appear as such. External links to Hessler's speeches and book reviews were especially self-serving and do not belong on Wikipedia. None of the biographical information was sourced and appeared to be written by Hessler himself. Saying his books are "well known" in the very first paragraph of the entry without any citation to this claim was also a bit self-aggrandizing. I would have just moved this data to the talk page to be edited later, however Wikipedia rules state "not...moved to the talk page" so I did not. if someone has a problem with this, then redo the page according to Wiki standards and not just because you are a fan of Hessler's books. Your attention needed: Unregistered user possibly abusing speedy deletion template

This user (who is unregistered and has only been editing since May 21st) has repeatedly placed a speedy deletion template on the Safe Auto Insurance Company company. I have briefly explained my rationale for keeping the article here. Please share your thoughts and contribute to this discussion. Radiofan13 (talk) 05:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

UPDATE. Please see user comments here. Unregistered user is a possible sockpuppet. Radiofan13 (talk) 05:34, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Bonar Law dispute

Bonar Law Hi Strdst, thanks for the welcome, I have a bit of a dispute on Bonar Law, the article is C class, listed as part of WikiProject Canada where I am a member and also in New Brunswick working on updating Kent Country region where there is a recently upgraded tourist attraction honouring this person and another wikipedian seems to be disruptive and refusing to allow any updates to the page, including a minor edit to start a new paragaraph and add a few words to clarify the place in question and these simple edits were reverted twice, not to mention the person responding to the discussion with insults to the Queen, swearing, refusal to add meaningful feedback to the suggestions for improving the article and then reverting the talk page after I had blanked it and the discussion was going nowhere and had decided to just remove the page from the Canada wikiproject and add the related info to a page for the tourist attraction only and those talk pages too were reverted and then the person started the same old discussion on my personal talk page, I am fairly new here and do not know how to add citations yet which seems to be a big issue for this person but the article is riddled with citations already and there is hardly a sentence otherwise where I do not find some reason for the article being C class. What do you suggest? Wild Heart of Kent (talk) 17:16, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Wild Heart of Kent, read WP:CANVASS. Ironholds (talk) 17:27, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Or perhaps you should. That little table at the canvassing guideline is an AND/OR table; the violation of any one of those four points turns it into canvassing. See how biased his message was, thus violating one of the points. Ironholds (talk) 17:38, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and suggesting that we take it to the arbitration committee while telling me to reread policy - also not good. Ironholds (talk) 17:39, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
  • For reference, Wild Heart of Kent added a completely unreferenced and poorly worded statement to the article. I reverted, in line with bold, revert, discuss. He then added a poorly worded and unreferenced copyright violation to the article. I'm sure his intentions are good, and yours, but someone with no understanding of the dispute stepping in and giving seriously bad advice is not going to help things. Ironholds (talk) 17:45, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Hound-dogging when I am looking for advice on how to deal with them, lol, the article I wrote included links to the source where the info originated something the wanna-be owner neglected to include in the original article, no doubt part of the reason for the C class, I am willing to keep talking if the insults and hounding are over, thanks. Wild Heart of Kent (talk) 18:41, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Excuse me? I didn't include that link because I've never used that site as a reference. See those little cite tags after almost every point? Those are properly formatted references. I've now explained to you four times the real reason behind the C-class tag. Are you deliberately trying to goad me or something? Ironholds (talk) 18:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
No, but why are you following me all over the place? I told you a long time ago I wasn't interested in arguing, so you went to my user page, so I went for help, and then you follwed me here so I don't think I should respond to any more of your comments and you can believe what you want as to what was the problem with the article, the article was fixed except for inserting the name Scotland as the location of the school, submit your article and see what happens now to the rating, I hope it goes up and wish you best of luckWild Heart of Kent (talk) 20:24, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

As of this moment, I have no wish to become involved in your dispute. I urge the pair of you to find a calm consensus to resolve this issue. However, I ask you not to involve me in this process unless absolutely neccessary, and if either of you continues your argument on my talk page, I will post a Wikiquette alert on that user. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 20:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Welcome template

Hi.
I was bold and I made a correction to your welcome template, that you can see here, because I bumped into this user here.
I hope I didn't offend you in any way; however, if I was out of place, revert it and ignore me. ;) Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 15:19, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

On a similar note, in your welcome template you use a basepagename template to create a sandbox. Would it not be easier to use Special:MyPage/Sandbox 1? I hope this helps, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 07:46, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Adoption

Hey, I'm replying to your adoption offer. I've actually worked on Wikipedia before and I know the basics of editing, etc. What I'm looking for in an adopter is someone to teach me more in-depth about Wikipedia editing. I'm mostly looking for someone involved in vandalism reversion and Project LGBTQ. cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 19:14, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Allrighty. Thanks for offering though:) cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 20:30, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

It's fine to be friendly (is it?)...

Hi there STARDUST, VASCO from Portugal here,

Take a look at the history of the "person" which you welcomed here, i think you'll be less than impressed, or over-impressed in a negative way...please see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Pararubbas/Archive).

Keep it up, cheers, have a great week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:06, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Of course my friend - that was the part i clearl went all the WRONG way in - you never know if a user is going to be vandalic or not when they begin, and i sincerely offer you my congratulation for being so polite to all new wikipedians. Regarding your doubts about this being another sock (which are perfectly valid) you can rest assured, it is another sock of User:Pararubbas, and it will not stay open for long, hopefully (although he will open another, and another, and another...).

To sum it up, i have the utmost respect for your approach (and all the others who "operate" like you), i justed wanted you to share some of my awe :)

Cheers, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:14, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
