The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

P.S., I fixed your user page. You had used tabs, which created that horrible form look and also the bold wikicodes were messing up your sections. You might want to review the tutorial again before we start doing more serious editing. Again, you access that on our course page at the top menu (for students).
