Why would a forum for UPS employees and shareowners not be an appropriate external link?[edit]

I understand and appreciate that spam is an eternal problem for wikipedia editors but respectfully request that you reconsider the link placement to the Brown Cafe forum as appropriate to the United Parcel Service article. The forum is not new, it was established by UPS employees in 1999 as a privately operated resource for UPS employee and shareowners. I have reviewed the external link guidelines and believe that this link is appropriate for and valuable addition to the subject matter.

It is not a question of appropriateness or the quality of your webpages. My complaint about the external browncafe.com and conductdisorders.com links are that they are both owned by User talk:Styleanddesign (you). This sort of self promotion violates Wikipedia policy. Could you please advise where I can find the policy?

Thank you for your time and effort here, I'm not trying to be obnoxious about this. It's just that I believe that both of the links that I added provide relevant and unique resources for individuals researching the topics and was not aware of the policy which you are applying to them. Is this policy prohibiting owners of domains to add relevant external links the only reason that you have chosen to remove the links? Yes, I own both forums, my husband worked for UPS and I belong to the conduct disorders support parents group. If I were a spammer I would have created a sock puppet account and added the links under an obscure identity with a proxy ip. I'm just trying to understand what I have done to violate wikipedia policy. Thank you in advance for your patience.Styleanddesign 23:22, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, it is nothing personal. It was the domain names, the manner, the timing, and your user contribution profile that appeared to be very linkspam-like. I'm not saying that you are a link spammer, I'm just saying that your actions matched 100% that of a link spammer, and that is what caught my attention. Here is what I suggest: get involved in some of the discussions, become part of the community, do some editing, then mention your links on the discussion pages and see how that goes, then if that goes well add them to the main article. Remember that Wikipedia is not a linkfarm so please use retraint in the number of external links that you add. (Requestion 23:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Thank you for the suggestions and taking the time to explain your decision. Keeping spammers and vandals off of Wikipedia is an essential task and I do appreciate all of your efforts. I will do as you suggested, thanks again.Styleanddesign 01:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made a bad judgement call and I have reverted the removal of your two links. I am also removing the uw-spam1 tag I placed. I apologize for any harm I may have caused. (Requestion 17:45, 21 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I do appreciate your taking the time to reconsider your decision. Thank you very much. In the future I will use the discussion page to ask for guidance before adding anything to wikipedia.
