Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Correct me if I am wrong wouldn't this fall under the guidelines for entertainer and has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. As stated in the in the world record and challenges section and World record section it states that he has been the first person to do multiple difficult challenges for the first time in the games history. Breath of the Wild has sold 19 million copies and he has two rankings in two competitive categories. To put the challenge in perspective if you have or haven't played any video games, in order to defeat the game with a stick took nearly 16 hours of just doing a boss fight in game and using a new glitch being on of the first to show of the duplication trick in breath of the wild. In comparison to a real world event the glitch could be electricity and the run would be the light bulb. Electricity by itself is useful, but Point Crow came up with a new way to use this to create a challenge never done before making vast strives towards bigger and better runs in breath of the wild. DarkRepulser8340, There's been speed runs and game challenges done on literally tens of thousands of different games. There's nothing particularly unique or innovative about that. We also would need to see significant coverage of the subject for a broader audience. A subject that is covered only in video game magazines and sources wouldn't typically be considered notable. Disclosed paid editor moved draft to articlespace without AfC

Hi there,

The new article CloudApp was moved to draftspace by you in May, with you saying it needed to go through the AfC process. That same week an editor moved it back to articlespace without submitting it through AfC. It doesn't seem improved much from your original comments, so I thought I would bring it to your attention. (Especially since I'm not sure what the usual best practices are in these cases, and I'm not a new page patroller)

General Question on the Review Process

Dear Sulfurboy,

When I had resubmitted my article, there were around 1400 pending submissions. It has risen over 2200 as I write this. While I understand that the process can take 6 weeks or more (which is only fair), I request you to kindly explain in general how exactly does this process work if the articles are not reviewed in any specific order? Does this by any chance mean that the pending articles keep adding up and my article never gets reviewed under this "no specific order" system? Nipman (talk) 06:11, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Brad Chase - Businessman

Chris you are correct that some of the mentions are not solely about Mr. Chase but others including the front page WSJ article when he left Microsoft, AD Age when he was named a top 100 marketing person, Fortune which as all about his testimony in the DOJ case and others are indeed focused on Mr. Chase. Given that I respectfully disagree with the characterization of "promotional nonsense." Given the facts your comment seems inconsistent with the guidelines to be polite, assume good faith and welcoming to new users. I am pretty new at this and am trying.

I would love some advice to address your concerns. Mr. Chase is one of the most well known Microsoft executives in its history. He will be one of the most notable former Microsoft executives on Wikipedia if approval is granted. He led the marketing of arguably the most famous software product of all time. And the marketing was groundbreaking and including a famous deal with the Rolling Stones. He was a senior executive at one of the most well known companies in the world on many of its most famous products. He was a key witness in the famous anti-trust case against Microsoft. He has won awards for his work. He now has written a book. He meets the notability guidelines. Side note for fun is that the current CEO of Microsoft once worked for Brad.

But the challenge is that most of the references (for example lots of magazine and newspaper articles) are not available on the web. Most of his Microsoft career was before the web existed or was a big deal and so I did my best with what I could find to reference it. There are a few things I could add. For example, I could add NY Times stories like this one https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1995/07/31/issue.html (starts on the front page A1, goes to D1 and finishes D4-D6). Mr. Chase is quoted many times including on the innovation of his marketing strategy. I was afraid that was too detailed. Similarly he has been a guest on numerous recent podcasts but, ironically, I was afraid these would be considered to promotional.

Despite numerous lengthy online research sessions, I remain unable to locate any information about the location of Dr. Herman's birth, when he first practiced medicine, or the year of his marriage. In order to complete the draft, I entered approximate dates in the infobox regarding these missing facts as a means of continuing to make progress and in hopes that this information will later become available.

  1. Since not all information can be definitively determined or referenced, how should the fact that a date, location, or other fact is currently unknown be correctly represented or coded in the infobox (or anywhere else on a page)?

John B123, Not notable at all. And there sure isn't anything new to establish notability since the last AfD. It also is riddled with tone and POV issues. It would be a clear delete again via AfD imo. However, I'll give the author a benefit of a doubt and just draftify it. If it's moved to mainspace again, the only option left really is just to run it through AfD again. Guidance before submitting a page for review

This is Soumyajit Bhar, a Ph.D. scholar at ATREE, Bangalore, under the supervision of Dr. Sharachchandra Lele. I, along with a few of his other Ph.D. scholars, Ms. Roshni Kutty and Mr. Amit John Kurien have decided independently to create a Wikipedia page for Dr. Lele (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bharsoumyajit88/sandbox). We are aware that there is a mild conflict of interest, but we have put together a page based on the materials available on him in various publicly-verifiable sources. Dr. Lele is a globally renowned scholar in the field of environmental studies and he meets the first criterion of notability for academics, because their papers have been cited more than 6000 times and his World Development paper is in the top 10 most cited papers in the journal.

I have the following questions/guidance:

1. Being new to Wikipedia, I have mistakenly created a duplicate page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sharachchandra_Lele). I want guidance on how to delete this. I want to keep the sandbox one.

2. Please help me resolve the error in the #26 reference.

3. I have addressed all the comments given after the last submission to the best of my abilities. Please let me know if there is any further scope for me improve it.

4. I want some guidance on where to mention the declaration of this mild conflict of interest while I am submitting an article for review. May I include this at the beginning of the article itself?

Most of all, people came angry and destroying the computer or mobile because I know there was only the beginner and they wasted what they did. Moving draft articles from user sandboxes or other user pages to Draft space

Hi! I do outreach work and training of new users and I have noticed you are moving user sandboxes and other user drafts to the Drafts namespce with the edit summary "the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions (DFY)". I am wondering why you are doing this. As an AfC reviewer myself, I am not sure there is any such policy. And in any case, new users aren't required to use AfC (once they are autoconfirmed) and new users in training programs and other outreach programs won't usually use AfC as there are experienced Wikipedians involved to advise them on their first new article (and we often directly move those new articles to main space or supervise them doing it themselves). This is not to say that AfC does not have an important role to play, but it's not the only path to new articles.

Wikipedia:User pages says "User pages are mainly for interpersonal discussion, notices, testing and drafts (see: Sandboxes)", supported by Help:Userspace draft which says "Userspace drafts are distinct from drafts located in WP:Draftspace" and Wikipedia:Drafts says "If you are logged in, creating a Draft version first is optional. Editors may instead choose to create draft pages in their userspace, or new articles directly in mainspace after the user has become autoconfirmed or confirmed." Wikipedia:User pages#Editing of other editors' user and user talk pages says "In general, one should avoid substantially editing another's user and user talk pages, except when it is likely edits are expected and/or will be helpful".

There is a policy difference between User: drafts and Draft: drafts. As it says in Wikipedia:Drafts "Anyone, including users who are not logged in, may create and edit drafts" whereas the policy on User is that generally we avoid editing user pages (other than where there are major policy violations occurring). By moving content from User user space to Draft space it impacts on new users who are experimenting and trying to get the hang of editing. They may or may not be preparing a draft, they may just be practising. Moving their work off to Draft space confuses them, makes them think they have done something wrong, and potentially frightens them off (very easy to do unfortunately, see WP:BITE). And having others editing their work before they were ready for it (which is allowed in Drafts) also upsets them. Similarly content in User space can live forever while Drafts get removed after 6 months (although this is less of an issue as a new user gone for 6 months is generally a new user lost forever anyway).

I am not suggesting you are doing this with anything but good intentions but it seems to be based on a misunderstanding of the roles of the User and Draft namespaces and the role of AfC. Kerry Raymond, That's a question probably better suited for the AfC project talk page. I doubt that part of script was put in place without consensus, but who knows. As stated at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Helper script it says at the top "Warning: You take full responsibility for any action you perform using the Articles for Creation Helper Script. You must understand Wikipedia policies and use this tool within these policies, or risk being blocked from editing." The only thing I can see that mentions moving things from User space to Draft space is in WP:AfC#Submissions in other namespace which says "Pending submissions that have been created in userspace (including sandboxes) should be moved to the preferred AfC namespace." The key word here is "pending", that is, the user has done something (typically added the template to submit for review) to indicate their work is a pending submission. Such content generally appears in Category:Pending AfC submissions in userspace from where it is OK to move it to Draft. Kerry (talk) 07:00, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

If that is so, then all is fine and my apologies to you. I was getting feedback of sandbox content moving mysteriously into Draft and your username was mentioned. It may be that they followed some advice they saw somewhere on-wiki and added the AfC submission template not knowing what that meant and were surprised/unhappy by what (inexplicably to them) happened as a result. Disclosure

My interest in creating this page is that Dr. Herman literally saved the lives of countless people with rare, unusual, and difficult to diagnose and treat diseases. Furthermore, Bob Herman was probably the most amazing, brilliant, humble, kind, wise, and wonderful person I have ever met. I wanted to honor his memory by ensuring that it would be more widely accessible than a highly technical tome on theoretical biology resting in various, more or less randomized university library stacks.

However, it would appear that potential conflicts of interest arise in virtually any situation, and that reporting them is all but essential.

I know of Dr. Herman (and eventually came to know him personally albeit remotely in the professional environment) because I was his patient, and a subject of rather invasive inpatient human research at the Letterman Army Institute of Research over a period of about nine months. Although I understand the need for disclosure, I wonder what level of disclosure is appropriate in such cases.

  1. Should I disclose the fact that I was Dr. Herman's patient - and how much information should be provided regarding our physician patient relationship (if any)?
  3. Please also note that I have not yet determined the general mechanism (or the on page appearance) of correct disclosure of potential conflict of interest - even now after various online searches and visiting numerous pages purporting to explain conflict of interest disclosures or be examples of correct disclosure (such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#How_to_disclose_a_COI and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Steve_Jobs&diff=prev&oldid=719164069 ).
Looking in here, you need only say you had a non-commercial COI,. There is no requirement is such cases to give details, and, in fact, it's better not to give personal details of this sort on WP. DGG ( talk ) 20:18, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

The standard for AfC is just that the article probably would be conasdiered acceptable at AfD, not that would certainly be considered notable. Most of us interpret "probably" somewhere between 66%and 80%. Personally, I use a guess of 75%, but only a few percent of the articles I have accepted have ever ben challenged, and very few deleted, except on a few occasions for copyvio that I have missed.

If you decide to challenge any of my acceptances at AfD, and you certainly are entitled to do so --only the community can settle disagreements over acceptability-- , I just ask that you notify me on my talk page when you nominate them. DGG ( talk ) 17:25, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Unless my initial clueless flailing and experimental click chasing resulted in the draft's incorrect location, if I remember correctly, I created the draft where I did because I followed one or more links at my Objective Operator account page that at least appeared to suggest that the correct location for new page creation would be opened upon clicking the link. Had I not followed these links, I would have not created the draft where I did. In other words, it appears the workload of editors might be reduced if it were more difficult for new users to inadvertently create a new page in an incorrect location. Requesting removal of the "undisclosed payments" banner on Lowenstein Sandler page

In the spring, I was asked to update my employer's page (Lowenstein Sandler) to ensure accurate, updated data. The edits were accepted, and the editors did a great job of tidying up the page. Some time later, the editors added a page banner at the top of the page: "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies. (May 2020)"

My employer asks if I can get that removed.

I confess I am new to Wikipedia and surely made mistakes in how I approached the updates. I made them in good faith but may have failed to add to my profile that Lowenstein is my employer and that I was updating the page on their behalf.

I welcome your guidance as to steps I can take to help the editors feel comfortable in removing the banner. I am at your disposal and welcome your input.

Why would we remove the banner when you still haven't properly disclosed? The links with the information on how to do this have been posted a half dozen times on your talk page and you've chosen to ignore them. Wikipedia is not here to cater to your company's interests. I would advise taking the time to read our policies instead of asking us to hand hold you through the process. After last year's debacle (multiple submissions declined and then rejection), I am trying to rewrite the page on Cafetran Espresso, starting from scratch. This time, I will directly liaise with the people in charge of the evaluation in the past (same message on their talk page), and ask for your assistance.

Disclaimer: I am not at all involved in the development of CTE. I am just a professional translator whose bacon was saved by the tool. Being quite active in various translator communities, I know for a fact that CTE is one of the most mentioned (which of course does not mean used) standalone CAT tool after SDL Trados, MemoQ and Wordfast (the other current big players being Cloud-based). It is particularly important for people under Linux, being quasi the only professional-grade tool. For us, CTE is not just notable. It is vitally important.

The conundrum I face is that, being in 2020, the immense majority of software comparisons are via blogs. CAT tools are not groundbreaking technology warranting a publication in research journals. And all other types of articles are now published via blogs or forums (personaly, I cannot remember the last time I read a magazine, even online). This issue would be met with any CAT tool develop today.

So I started by deleting all the boasting, as well as the detailed technical descriptions, which can be re-introduce later if needed. I think what remains is more than a stub. I would appreciate your help to grow it until the point it can be acceptable as a page, without adding material that would fire up new controversies. Or use the "Ask for advice" button on the last reject notice. I would suggest first doing a good search to find any good reliable sources to show notability and adding them.
