Regarding resectioning of articles[edit]

Hey there, I saw your efforts in resectioning articles into more uniform styles and want to encourage you to have a look at WP:COMMONNAME. This policy ranks very highly because most of the time people will look for something by its 'common name' and overly complicated naming gets in the way of that. JackTheSecond (talk) 22:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JackTheSecond - thanks for passing this along and for helping to try and rename this article so it more precisely describes the points being made in each section - it's been a struggle but hopefully we will get there Superb Owl (talk) 22:03, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Superb Owl, I want to thank you for your well-written treatment of AllSides. I was alarmed when I saw tens of comments from two AllSides employees on the talk page, but I think you handled the edit requests very well and as neutrally as anyone could hope for. — Newslinger talk 04:31, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Supreme Court - Judicial Activism[edit]

Hi Superb Owl, I wanted to let you know that I appreciate your work on Supreme Court of the United States. I am working to improve the judicial activism section. I aim to improve the quality of the writing, remove excessive examples, and rewrite the article from a neutral perspective. Any help in this endeavor is greatly appreciated!.

Thanks Marincyclist (talk) 02:22, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Marincyclist - thanks so much for your edits so far - there's a lot to do in this section and in this article and you seem to be getting the hang of things pretty fast as a new editor!
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or any edits you want me to take a look at Superb Owl (talk) 02:50, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Superb Owl Thanks! Feel free to check out my latest edit. One issue with that section was the excessive amount of examples of cases and commentators. I've removed some of the older and repetitive examples, but I think it needs to be slimmed down further. I've also added information on civil law vs common law systems, which gives the reader a more nuanced perspective on claims of activism, as it may simply be inherent to a common law approach. Thanks - Marincyclist (talk) 03:04, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marincyclist, I just finished glancing over all the edits making some of my own and leaving flags for some things to fix - you seem to be off to a great start and let me know if you have any questions about the shorthand I'm leaving on my edit summaries or inline templates. WP:Synthesis, for example, may mean the text in the article does not yet adhere closely to the text in the citation (the link is worth reading or re-reading if you haven't had a chance, along with other explanatory articles on how to edit Wikipedia - I wish I'd read more earlier-on in my editing so I didn't have to go back and fix mistakes I'd made before I had a better grasp of how to edit). Superb Owl (talk) 06:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Superb Owl Thanks! I appreciate your feedback and your shorthand makes a lot of sense. I have gone back and fixed some synthesis and verification issues in my past edits. I will continue to check out some of those WP articles. I think that together we are really improving this article and bringing it up to date with present research and examples. Best - Marincyclist (talk) 23:12, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Marincyclist, thanks for bringing your energy to the page and I think we're making progress too with these sections and I'll keep recommending wikipedia style articles for easier editing if that's helpful Superb Owl (talk) 03:05, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Superb Owl You may also find my article Models of judicial decision making interesting as someone who is interested in the topic! Marincyclist (talk) 23:19, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marincyclist - I took a real quick look and made a few notes - main one is to try and find a couple reputable sources that summarize the topic to cite in the lede and link to other related topics Superb Owl (talk) 03:14, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Trumpism[edit]

Hello there. I would like to come to a compromise of sorts. I personally disagree about adding Bongbong Marcos (mostly because Duterte himself fills that role better alone than Marcos) and Jacob Zuma to the list in the header, since there are much better candidates to add (not to mention that they and other additions currently have no citations). What do you have in mind? Firekong1 (talk) 19:45, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Firekong1 - we can ask for a third opinion if you want and if you want to differentiate between the two, I'm open to the idea, but we need a source that says that Duterte was more emblematic of Trumpism than Marcos Superb Owl (talk) 20:30, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, sounds good. I just disagree with adding Marcos because there's two politicians for one country, whereas the other countries on the list have only one politician listed, so I don't want it to get complicated. Who do you think we should ask for a third opinion? Firekong1 (talk) 22:06, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I double-checked the source and it was actually describing his father, not him so I agree about removing him and just did. If sources arise that say Bongbong is emblematic of Trumpism, I will add him back to the article Superb Owl (talk) 22:10, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I didn't see Marcos as a good comparison to Trump from our article on him. Should we also remove Jacob Zuma? Firekong1 (talk) 23:40, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree - the source it draws from has zero citations and may not be notable enough for inclusion. I see other sources but again have not yet found a notable source. I will flag first before removal Superb Owl (talk) 00:20, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. All the names on there currently do not have any sources, do you think we should remove them until we can find the proper sources for them? As an example, I found a possible source for Jarosław Kaczyński being compared to trump and the MAGA movement, and thus makes him eligible for addition later. Firekong1 (talk) 01:57, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Firekong1, they do have sources in the body of the article (the lede usually doesn't need sources if it's summarizing sourced material in the article). I would first add Kaczynski to the EU section and if it sticks because it's a reliable source, then we can add to the lede later. Typically it's best to make new edits to the body first and then update the lede after others have had a chance to weigh-in on the content that you're adding or taking away. Superb Owl (talk) 03:25, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Thank you for allowing me to suggest some additions to the lede, I'll show you some sources and let you determine if they're good for adding. Firekong1 (talk) 14:04, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help and in case you haven't seen them yet, the guidelines to reliable sources are here: WP:Reliable sources and here. Superb Owl (talk) 17:42, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will check it out, I'll be sure to contact you when I get my sources together. Firekong1 (talk) 20:55, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
