- NotARabbit I know! I take no credit for them at all, that was all Sue. I told her that was what made me want to do a Women Rock editathon, but I had to have photos. I thought she might find 1 or 2. Was blown away by the library she found. Totally awesome and it let me add women to the military camouflage article! - NotARabbit, totally not your fault. I get that it is like two people speaking foreign languages who are just failing to communicate. I know how to use the technology that I use when it works. I have actually owned a computer longer than probably most of the editors on here have been alive. But I do not know how to communicate when things do not work. I can only explain what is happening in plain English. When the conversation goes to coding, programming or the like, I am totally lost. Monthly achievements proposal for WiR
Hi Susun. I know that you go for quality rather than quantity but I've tried to put something together for the WiR Monthly achievement scheme which will encourage editors to go for more than just multiple stubs. I've suggested that the class of each new article should be included in the lists, hoping that most editors will try for at least start class. If you can think of any other incentives for higher quality, please let me know. I was initially thinking of including your suggestion for covering all the countries beginning with A in the first month but the schedule for August already seems pretty full. I hope in any case that we can restore more enthusiasm for WiR and attract more editors. I'm pleased to see MauraWen has been in touch with you here too. - Ipigott I actually like the proposal though as we have discussed I am not a fan of competition. I love that you have recommended start class and the flag icons so that it is obvious whether our coverage is diverse or focused in one specific area. I do think it would be cool to have a space "designed to help new editors", maybe labeled collaboration wanted or collaborative opportunities where people can post drafts that need review, articles needing additional sourcing, editing, etc. (And yes, I am thrilled with MauraWen's desire to become more involved, would that we had more like her willing to take on some of the tasks needed to keep us growing). GA nomination question

- Thsmi002: Excuse me for stepping in here but I think the article needs to broaden coverage if it is to be reviewed for GA. It is rather thin at the moment on her early life and upbringing, on the particular aspects of her career which proved significant and above all on the assessments of her contributions. It seems to me that much of this information could be found from internet searches but you should also look at the reactions to her publications, etc. At the moment, the article is probably approaching B class. For a GA article, it also lacks illustrations, quotations and wider sourcing. I hope you can improve it further.--Ipigott (talk) 21:04, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Ipigott I am sure that no one thinks you are butting in. In fact, I responded on Thsmi002's page and said I relied on you to help me with GAs. You may want to look at my detailed response there, which you have pretty much confirmed with your comments made here. I don't know the subject material well, but at 5K of prose it's a bit on the short side for a GA. By comparison, Carol Kaye which I'm working on at the moment, is currently sitting at 8K of prose and I haven't finished yet - I think it'll be closer to 12-15K when I'm done. Obviously this is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but the trouble with the short GAs is that they're at risk of somebody coming along and deciding to merge or redirect them somewhere else. Hello Susun! I'm working on switching the Ida Tarbell references to Harvard as you suggested. Would you take a look and see if these look correct? - Auldhouse Yes, you have the gist of how you do it. You have a few errors in linking (format looks correct), which reminds me I forgot to tell you about the error gadget. Install this and you will see the errors. I can fix them, but better that you are able to see what it does and know what to look for. The cool thing about the gadget is that once you install it, you can see the errors on any file that uses this type of referencing ;) Let me know if you have more questions, or if you just want me to help with the conversion. - (talk page stalker) Assuming you're trying to improve this article to GA / FA .... in this edit, you probably want to include a page number, unless the report in question is a single page. I'm a big fan of shortened footnotes, because for us hardcore geeks that always work in the source editor (Visual what?), it means the text is less clutted by multi-line citation template definitions and makes simultaneous proof-reading and editing a bit easier. It's also easier much easier to drop in citations if you're going through a single source, expanding it or retrospectively sourcing existing content. And do get the gadget, it'll make life easier. One other top tip - if a source isn't an obvious book with an author (I sometimes cite council or government reports), you can use

LOL You formatted it correctly. The problem is that IMDB is not a reliable source, as it is not curated, i.e. has no editorial control. Let me see if I can find you a better source. Thank you Ritchie333, that means a lot to me. Writing is far more gratifying. :) Ten years ago, when I jumped off the corporate carousel, sold all our accumulated trappings and moved to the tropics (yes, I am that person who dreamed it and actually did that), I decided I was done with management. I decided if we failed at living abroad, we could always return, but I realized I'd rather flip burgers than go back into cleaning up messes again. Fortunately, I discovered I am really good at following my passions and we have never given a minute's thought to returning to that rat race. Even when we have changed countries, returning never occurred to us. There really isn't anything about leadership that I like, it reinforces hierarchies, which in turn fosters a mind set of "us and them" rather than "we are all in this together". More than anything else, for me, it sucks the life and creativity out of a person, trying to mold them into conformity. (I was quite proud of the fact that even in the corporate world, my reputation was one of someone who thinks outside of the box.) Far more pleasurable to write and learn about the amazing people who have built our world, IMO. *That* has merit. Telling others what to do, mopping up after them, not so much. As you may know, I too retired from my management position back in 2006 and resolved not to take up any official administration responsibilities. I must say that unlike you, I really enjoyed managing large IT research projects for over 30 years but I also really enjoy contributing to Wikipedia simply keeping to editor status. For me, management was always a means to an end. In my 20s I planned to use my career to escape and determined as much as I did not like it that I would do it only until we were ready to flee. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Inge Borkh
I was drawn by recent deaths to soprano Inge Borkh and managed to get her name to the Main page, by expanding and referencing. There's so much more material in the cited sources that I believe it could become a GA eventually (things like: the composer Strauss saw her on stage and said she shold be careful not to act too much, - but now she was a trained actress and dancer, who did Salome's dance without a double). Never did a GA for a person (not alone that is, - yes, there was Franz Kafka, but I only helped PumpkinSky with the German aspects), so thought I ask you. There might be some early press photographs which are out of copyright. Possibly programmes and record covers could also be used. - Thank you Triplecaña (I might add that I love Flor de Caña, though it is probably distilled not brewed)! Megalibrarygirl and I worked on it as an anchor article to tie other women's articles to. We were surprised that in the main brewing article there was nothing at all relating to women in the piece, despite their traditional role in almost all societies before industrialization. So we added links. Hadn't really thought of working it up to GA, but it shouldn't be too hard to do, if you want to collaborate on it. I've been out of pocket for a couple of weeks with visiting family, but should be back by tomorrow. Feel free to translate it, as the more that we can show women's participation in society and world development, the better IMO. SusunW (talk) 14:31, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

- That's alright Susun, I got back on Sunday from a day out taking the kids on one of the Thames Clippers across London (it's cheap, kids go free, and the scenery's nicer than the tube) and for a run around St. James Park, and collapsed at about 9pm through exhaustion without so much as improving another tube station article to GA status, let alone getting stuck into Aretha Franklin for the big GA push (which probably isn't that big, I think). I was wondering if anyone could turn up authentically sourced info on Chhaang, also called Tongba, which is still brewed by women in the Himalayan countries. It is briefly mentioned here. Right, wrong; black, white; etc. really limits diversity. I think they are completely unaware how their responses appear to be a means to shut out other voices. Re: notability
I'm frankly not sure if the sprawling Notability guideline needs to be changed in some way to counter systemic bias. But I'm thinking that actual examples of marginalized historical persons might provide useful evidence to show how the existing Notability guideline can disqualify such people and perpetrate bias, while "alternative sourcing" or "expanded" sourcing you've suggested could provide a corrective. I became involved in the discussion after I looked at the WMF Gender Equity Report 2018 (meta:Gender_equity_report_2018), and saw that it contains several political-sounding sweeping condemnations of white male privilege in a range of Wikipedia policies (and also some comments about "aggressive" and harrassing behavior in Discussions, which does sound believable). But the report is almost completely lacking specific examples of policy shortcomings. I posted a comment on the report's Barriers to Equity talk page to make that point.
