Alligators

Susun, those alligators are pesky creatures, and hungry too. Hope you are doing well. It must be getting warm down there cause it's warm here (highs around 17°c to 22°c) where the sun never sets. --ARoseWolf 15:29, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
I return from having been twisted, spindled, prodded, and poked to find your lovely message, which made me smile, ARoseWolf. It's a quite lovely 30°c and the week looks like 32°c across the board with probably 5 o'clock showers every day because, you know, the rainy season has set in. I'd be frozen in your northern land, but down here in gator country yes, we are too busy for words. Hoping to finish the Marianas today and move on to Palau. Bit by bit, progress is made. SusunW (talk) 16:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
You are always welcome in our northern land, frozen or not, should you ever decide to visit. I will be really busy next month trying to finalize what we need for winter (Yes, it will be here before we know it) so my Wikipedia travels will lessen. The work you are doing is amazing, Susun. It will leave a legacy behind for many generations to understand the process by which women have had to fight to be recognized all around the world. A fight that even continues today. Take courage, my friend. Keep pushing forward. Be strengthened. You ARE the remarkable light MEANT to shine upon this topic and the perfect Song to sing the stories you are telling. --ARoseWolf 17:03, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

It's 23° here right now, and might rise to 25° by the end of the week. Had a lovely time with the kids at Brighton Palace Pier last weekend where it was gloriously sunny all day - you don't get that too much in this part of the world. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:47, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: that's so cool. 23° to 25° isn't so bad. Get much above 27° and I'm dying. I'm thankful we don't see many if any of those high temps. We can actually start swimming around 7° to 10°. As you can imagine, we spend a lot of time outside this time of year. My brothers house is across the creek from ours and then our family friend/dog trainer, Jack, is living in one of the cabins about two miles from here. I love the walk to both locations. Also love visits to the creek. We bathe and swim in it during the short Summer. It's cool because it runs down from the mountain but I just love the feeling of the water flowing around me. The creek freezes over during Winter. We have ten cabins spread out over the land and we've been trying to do repairs on two a week. Most are minor repairs but we actually had to replace portions of the roof on one. We utilize these cabins throughout the year when we are on harvest runs and clearing trails. There are also a few cabins in other locations not on our land that we use while clearing trails for the state before and after winter. My daughter is 9 now so I've started taking her with me more. --ARoseWolf 12:55, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
@Ritchie333:, so glad you got to enjoy yourself with the kids. It's gloriously sunny here year round, with few exceptions. Even in the rainy season that only means an hour or so of rain most days. Every now and then, when a hurricane blows past from the Caribbean side, we get overcast and it rains for days. Usually we just get the tropical depression after the fact and haven't had an actual hurricane here since 2002, but last year's tropical storms were crazy. Lots of flooding around the peninsula. We're hoping the roof repairs that we did in the dry season hold up. ARoseWolf we're opposites (polar? LOL) much below 27° and I'm dying, and I would never swim if it wasn't above 27°. ;) SusunW (talk) 13:47, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Maybe we will meet in the middle somewhere one day, ha! --ARoseWolf 16:22, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

@SusunW, Megalibrarygirl, and Ritchie333: Thank you everyone for weighing in, especially for the suggestion to try Women in Red. I'll post a message there to see if anyone is able to look. I really admire the work you all do on Wikipedia, it's incredible! If any of you are able to look at my draft, that would be great, though I absolutely appreciate you have a lot of demands on your time. Hope with Time's Up (talk) 14:30, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Hope with Time's Up, If you check your talk page (User talk:Hope with Time's Up), I've made a bunch of comments that, once addressed, should mean the draft can be merged into the main article. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:32, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Hope

Susun, I trust you are doing well. Hope you are finding everything going your way. I'm writing you for dual purposes. I genuinely want to know how you are and its serving to take my mind off the discomfort I'm feeling in the moment. --ARoseWolf 21:02, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

ARoseWolf so you have been sitting "on hold" with the Oklahoma DMV for 3 hours 13 minutes and 38 seconds too? The plus is that I can work while I listen to their stupid recording telling me my call is important to them. *sigh* What's going on? SusunW (talk) 21:12, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Oh, you poor thing, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. My hip is hurting from my biopsy earlier today. I'm just sitting in my hospital bed. They said I can have solid foods now but I think I missed the best meal of the day so I may send Brian out to get me a hamburger. I haven't had one in over two years. Should be interesting. I'm in too much discomfort to think about food right now though. My hemoglobin dropped to critical levels on Friday and I've been in a hospital since then. Plane rides and helicopter flights are not as fun as they used to be under the circumstances (lol). --ARoseWolf 21:18, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Oh my word. Biopsies are never fun, in my experience. Glad to know you made it to a hospital, but wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'm fairly sure my perpetual hold is set to "ignore", but this is now the 3r time I've called and tomorrow I guess I call the congressman. Ugh! My husband lost his driver's license. It's been over a month and they haven't sent it. My sister is coming to visit on the 30th and was going to bring it to us, but if they won't send it ... My issue isn't anywhere near as serious as yours. SusunW (talk) 21:28, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
The sun will come out...tomorrow. We hold on to our rainbows. I hope yours gets resolved, beautiful friend. --ARoseWolf 22:06, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
I hope yours is resolved positively as well. I stand firm with you in hope for rainbows. SusunW (talk) 22:10, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

You Rock!!

My god, you rock, chica! I love it and love you for what you do. --ARoseWolf 18:46, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Mutual admiration society. I love you right back. SusunW (talk) 18:49, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
They never give you enough blankets to cover up in this place. I was running 101 fever earlier but it broke. Now I'm cold. I don't get cold usually. --ARoseWolf 18:51, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
It's the treatment. I would go through periods here (in May where it was 104F/40C and where I live without A/C) where I was under 3 or 4 blankets and just shivering. Then an hour later, I was burning up and needed a fan. It sucks, but fortunately that period passed fairly quickly. The rib cramps and dehydration period lasted for months ;( SusunW (talk) 18:58, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Luckily I have never had issues with hydration and being in the hospital they are keeping me well hydrated. Nothing to do about the pain and discomfort except take the meds they give me and power through it. My body hurts, Susun, so bad. I've stayed curled up most of the morning. I pop out write here or do a little research but mostly just stay in my ball. It's been the hardest few days since I came here. They came and took more marrow before we started this round of treatment and then we talked. Right now the chances are at 70% survival according to the doctors. I'm fighting so hard. I go through periods of crying but I come back fighting. With every thought I fight. --ARoseWolf 19:08, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Would that I could just be there and sit with you. No talking necessary. I never had hydration issues either until the radiation. Also had no clue I was allergic to so much stuff, but I had rarely been sick and it seemed like every time I was prescribed something for pain, or for my skin, or hydration drinks (like who is allergic to splenda? or zinc oxide? or the actual medication that is created to use on radiated skin? me apparently) Some days I just slept fitfully all day. Others I could function and powered through what I thought I could do. 70% is pretty good odds. Know that I understand, and am keeping you constantly in my thoughts. SusunW (talk) 19:17, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, Susun. Just having you say you understand and knowing its true is such a comfort. I agree it's amazing odds. I am very thankful for the staff here and what they are doing to help me. Please do keep me in your thoughts. Trust me when I say it makes a difference. --ARoseWolf 19:33, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
I love reading the articles you create. Keep it up! --ARoseWolf 20:26, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
ARoseWolf I love having help to figure out the complexities. Benin was certainly tough. French and that whole unconstitutional issue, but it's done. Now Botswana, where I will be adding info on Unity Dow. I will be glad when the legal part is done and I can work on the activism part, but I think making sure that women's legal status is in the country pages is important. July corner

July

June continued ... last year's flowers match the image on the user page nicely, see? - DYK that her last reply to me was in a thread Green for hope? - The DYK set in honour of Yoninah appeared yesterday, including Psalm 85, with the kiss of justice and peace - we wrote that together.

Fourth of July: Brian's birthday, remembered in gratitude for his unfailing inspiration and support - remember the Chapel - the missed - the music? - Can I interest you in a user's first FAC, Carillon? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:09, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

You are such a ray of light Gerda Arendt! I did note the DYK page was all items done by Yoninah. She would've loved that. Your thoughtfulness and care of the legacy of those that have gone is so appreciated. Not sure if I have time to do the FA review, but will put it on my list and see if I can get there in a week or so, if it still needs a review. SusunW (talk) 14:26, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
The DYK set was the making of many, not at all by me, see discussion on her talk. The great thing about FAC is that one can commentt bits, no obligation to read/comment the whole thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:46, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
Music happens. On the Main page now: "my" school. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:40, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
More music: 2 songs, the morning song - about rising from being down, in more than one sense - is a GA, - there should be more given my initials, but I also want to care for articles of those who recently died (now Esther Béjarano), and psalms in memory of Yoninah, - more missing than there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:06, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
Did you know that Vivaldi composed cello sonatas? I didn't until I took the pic. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

I danced!!

What a title but it's true. I felt so strong this morning that I put on some musica moderna Italiana and danced. Even the nurses came in had some fun with me. Nothing like a latin beat to get the hips moving. Quite the workout but I made sure to go easy. Whomever said laughter is a medicine knew something about the human soul. I got more joy out of seeing others laugh as we danced. This is the story I want to leave others with. This is the song I want them to remember. Not the harsh words I have spoken out of hurt, pain, anger or just plain ignorance. Not the moments of weakness, though an example of humanity, but those in which I brought just a touch of joy, a measure of peace and a moment of inflection or reflection of just how beautiful our scars can be and how they tell of our amazing journey through life. --ARoseWolf 15:23, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

ARoseWolf Damn, had I known, I'd've been dancing with you. It is impossible to dance and not smile. I am thrilled that you felt well enough and that the nurses joined you. Indeed, strong medicine. (As soon as I got the shunt out after my surgery, my husband and I gingerly danced around the kitchen. It wasn't with wild abandon, but it truly made me feel elated and on the mend.) SusunW (talk) 15:32, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
You still can! Go to Spotify, if you can, and type Musica Moderna Italiana, in the search bar. It should pop-up. I've created quite a few of my own playlists but I love that one on Spotify. It starts great! The rendition of Ed Sheeran's Perfect Symphony with Andrea Bocelli is so beautiful I cry. --ARoseWolf 15:42, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Keep up the great work, Susun! Eddie891 Talk Work 16:50, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Eddie891, this really made me smile. It is slow progress on my project, but progress nonetheless. SusunW (talk) 17:08, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Coeur_Heart_Purple The spinning barnstar is cool and well deserved. --ARoseWolf 17:47, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
ARoseWolf: I was intrigued by the spinning too and found this image. So as you can see, there are even more sophisticated (dizzying?) awards to strive for!--Ipigott (talk) 15:52, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

I stumbled upon this Ancient Greek women philosopher article, and did a c/e (+footnotes, etc.). The thing is, she has been forgotten, but I am not sure the scholars clearly say why? One Polish female scholar suggested this was on purpose, but stopped short of saying why, very annoying (and since she has passed away it's not like I could even email her to ask her thoughts). Anything you could dig up? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:04, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Piotrus Good to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. I have been hip deep in a project since January. Slow going and it's a huge endeavor, but one that I think has also been obscured and that very few people know about. My guess is that I won't work my way through all the countries until 2022-2023. On Sospipatra, I note that a biography of her has just been published by academic Heidi Marx. I also find bits and pieces here and here. Why she was obscured, she was a woman and a pagan, also a mystic/magician/prophet (typically practitioners of magic when it relates to women end up as witches and we know what happens to them). Then there is the whole issue that she didn't live in Greece, but rather was in Turkey, i.e. urban vs. rural dichotomy of sophisticated/unsophisticated. I hope this helps. When I get to Europe, after Africa but before Asia) I will be coming around to you for help. SusunW (talk) 13:52, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the info on the Marx's book; I read it (well, skimmed it - it's on Z-library); and I expanded the article, but she - nor anyone else - does ever clearly say why she was 'forgotten'. She does talk about her her story doesn't fit in the traditional Christian narrative, but nowhere that I can see does she makes the logical leap of saying that this is why she was 'ignored' by the Christian chroniclers. I do agree that you are likely right - I mean, I thought the very same - but I am a bit "peeved" that no RS that I can see actually says this (and hence, we cannot spell it out in the article). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:12, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
@Piotrus: Yep. Just another day of writing about women. For most of them, they haven't been studied for long enough for broad analysis by many scholars, thus questions (at least for me) always remain. I think I would be totally shocked if I wrote a historical biography and did not at least have at least one instance of "why did that happen" that was unanswered. I always hope that won't always be the norm. I mean heck, it's 2021, only took 17 centuries to have a work written on Sosipatra. ;) By the by, thanks for the link to Z-library!! I am thrilled to know about it and already found useful material there for the project. Woo hoo! SusunW (talk) 13:19, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Sharing is caring :) Check out the Library Genesis too, if you don't know it already. And on the subject of progress in woman bios, check out the paper I wrote here: [1] (if you can't access it there it should be on LibGen :)). Things are getting better! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:50, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
@Piotrus: Thank you so much! Didn't know about those either. And yes, things are improving. Even 2 years ago I would not have been able to tackle the project I am working on now. It is still difficult to find sources, but they aren't completely obscured. Baby steps someday will accumulate to a lot of ground covered. ;) SusunW (talk) 14:25, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
SusunW, LG has been my essential tool for finding full-text sources for years; even though I work at a university it doesn't have access to many sources. ZL I found about it more recently, but it is extremely useful too. It's shocking that real research would be very hard without piracy, the official system has failed academia long ago. PS. Last thing I'll link is the more official Wikipedia:Library, particularly the request sources - sometimes when a paper is not in LG (nor in my uni access) that's where I turn to. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:39, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
@Piotrus: I literally use the Wikipedia Library every single day. There are no public libraries here where I live in Mexico. Without access to sourcing, I would be absolutely lost. SusunW (talk) 03:30, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Piotrus: Z-Library looks really interesting but I was unable to access it from https://z-lib.org/ which is posted on the WP article. From the other sites which link to it, it looks as if you need to access via a public library. Any help with this?--Ipigott (talk) 15:30, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Hey, Ipigott, as you know, I have no affiliation to any library. I just created a free account (only requires an e-mail and a password) and I was off to the races. It's fabulous! SusunW (talk) 15:35, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Then I'll keep trying to access the site (still down) and try to do the same. What do you enter under Password?--Ipigott (talk) 16:22, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Ipigott Whatever you choose? You have to register and it will send you a confirmation e-mail. Then just sign in. SusunW (talk) 16:29, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

... is at FAC. Not sure if it has anything of interest to you. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:39, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Gog the Mild, truthfully, I'm kind of torn. I don't really have time to review it if I am ever going to finish Africa. I already communicated with the nominator and though they worked most of my stuff on women in, they did not seem to want collaborators or source materials. I get the first part, as it is sometimes easier to improve an article following your vision of where its headed, but the second part baffled me. They did not even respond to my offer to send them materials. Having no way of knowing why they refused/ignored my offer, it may be better for me to just sit this one out. SusunW (talk) 14:58, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
I wasn't for a minute suggesting that you take time out for a review. If you have time for that, then I have just nominated one. NZNL seems to be in good shape and I wasn't sure if you were aware of it, and just wanted to ensure that you were. You may wish to make a brief, neutral statement at FAC flagging up a possible issue with FAC criterion 1c "it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature". No need to watch list or come back on any subsequent comments. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:12, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Gog the Mild LOL, I am mired in French, my worst possible language. Yeh, yeh, yeh I get that it is Latin-based and if I can get past all the diacriticals and spelling I can usually figure out the root, but it is so much harder than Spanish or even Romanian for me. I have read through NZ and it does appear to be in good shape. There are other secondary sources available, specifically Laurie Fransman's nationality summaries for all of Britain. According to the Home Office, he is the expert on the topic, which is why I spent nearly $300 to buy his book because no edition is open access that I could find from here. There are also some secondary sources, merely because of wiki-rules, I would have used like this and this (available from the WP Library), rather than primary sources. But that being said, I think it definitely meets FA criteria and because I want the nominator to continue to improve nationality law articles, I don't want to create controversy by critiquing the nomination for such minor issues. SusunW (talk) 15:43, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, yeah; leave the dirty work to me.
$300!!!
French: a good friend used to teach French at undergraduate level and professionally translate from. The more she reminisces, the more I am convinced that French is even less rational than English! Gog the Mild (talk) 15:59, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Gog the Mild {{smiling devil}} A fortune but since the empire was so huge and it literally covers every single state ... I love French wine, food, cities, culture, and people, but I am a complete failure with their language. My friend of 40+ years from Paris just shakes her head at my inability. SusunW (talk) 16:10, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
France and the French language was always more fun to me the further you got away from Paris, no offense to Parisians cause I love you too. It wasn't uncommon to have someone from Rhone-Alpes or Provence blurt out a little Piedmont Italian in conversations and vice versa. Some aspects of language, culture and humanity know no borders. I am thankful for that. --ARoseWolf 16:17, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Agreed! ARoseWolf, my friend who has lived in Paris for 30 years is actually from a teeny tiny village in Auvergne. She is always able to spot the provincials from their speech. Me, I love listening to it, whatever dialect it is. The music of the spoken French language is beautiful, just unintelligible to me. SusunW (talk) 16:34, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Voting postponed

Susun, I'm sorry. I should have posted about the update on the WiR talkpage. The candidates, including me, are somewhere between stunned and stressed by the change, but it's no excuse. It just slipped off my plate. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:26, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Not a problem Rosiestep. Glad Asareel was able to find the dates for the WiR page, which has far more viewers than mine ;) SusunW (talk) 20:44, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
We are a team. When I saw the dates changed and I knew it had said it was going to start the 4th I knew something must have happened. I also recognized that this process has probably been a burden and a lot of stress on Rosie. I ran my Papa's store for years after he passed and I am the primary one that keeps the financials together for our family living in Alaska as well as the one that coordinates our supply runs and what we need so I understand the unbelievable stress running anything puts on a person. I'm just thrilled to know each of you and gain insight from you. --ARoseWolf 20:55, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Exactly ARoseWolf! I asked the question over there because I knew someone would have an answer and share the correction with everyone. I get frustrated with wiki-technology, but I was positive that our team would include someone who could help. SusunW (talk) 21:01, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Grace

I'm glad to see you are okay through the storm. I haven't followed it as closely because we don't get much in the way of news on those things up here but I have been monitoring it as much as I can. I heard about some severe flooding in Tennessee too. I do know a few people from there. I hope they are okay as well. --ARoseWolf 17:23, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Thank you ARoseWolf. I know it was a far less important news event to Afghanistan, so many news outlets did not even have it come on their radar. Fortunately, here we got minimal rain, but wind gusts took out trees and thus power lines. Today is the first day we have not experienced any power outages. Mostly we had one full day without power, a day with power for maybe half the day, and then 2 nights where it was out for 4-5 hours. Fingers crossed that means we've all been flipped back to the grid and aren't on emergency connections any more. And yes, I have lots of friends throughout the Caribbean and in the southern US who had it far worse than us. Thankful we don't really get the brunt of storms often. August songs

My 12th today, DYK? I decorated, also for a birthday. Songs invite to more music, places, food and flowers. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:06, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Love yellow, it takes me to a happy place. And yes, music is food for the soul. Thank you. SusunW (talk) 20:14, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! Today: 2 interesting DYK (I think), sadly 2 who died (on top of 2 from Poland yesterday), and a concert in which Daniel Barenboim just played piano, - and afterwards he and the orchestra received last year's prize (pictured). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
I really appreciate your sharing Gerda Arendt. I get so buried in nationality that I fail to notice other things going on. SusunW (talk) 18:00, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
Today: 3 DYK, including that the author dedicated a summer story to a license plate number ;) - Five rows of images added, sunflowers and butterflies continued, four rows of 15 August alone, - a rich Monteverdi day, - enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:28, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
I needed this Gerda Arendt! Thank you. Hoping that the storm headed our way has the "Grace" to just pass us by. SusunW (talk) 21:53, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
Please be safe!!! --ARoseWolf 16:14, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Gracias mi amiga. Right now, ARoseWolf it isn't even raining. Cloudy, but no rain and not really even wind. The Governor has ordered us not to leave our homes, so we are sequestered with three really unhappy cats in the house. SusunW (talk) 16:22, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
De nada. I can imagine its similar to us waiting out a snow storm. The unknown is always what makes you nervous. I need to send you a picture when I get home. It shows how deep the snow drifts can get in our valley. We had no idea when we first moved there but learned rather quickly. There is a door on the second story that leads to no where. It was simply there as a means to step out onto the piled up snow to leave the house. We added a deck but the snow pushes right up and over it sometimes during a really prolonged storm. Just be well, my friend. I hope it passes you by as you say. --ARoseWolf 17:24, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Hope so, too! - Can I interest you in Giedrė Šlekytė? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:02, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
What do you need me to do Gerda Arendt? We had no power for 23 hours and then the last two days it has been on again, off again. We're fine, the cats are fine. No damage except lost one banana tree. Trying to update a FA I am reviewing, but I am saving after every sentence in case the power goes again. SusunW (talk) 16:27, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Good to hear that you and the cats are fine. - For the conductor: just read. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:01, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Today: Teresa Żylis-Gara, the second soprano to impress me on stage, died, - long live the memory of her beautiful singing, remembered with thanks. 28 August 2013 was a special concert day: look. After Hillbillyholiday gave me a tree. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:59, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

Bronwen Manby

I think it is likely that Bronwen Manby meets WP:AUTHOR based on reviews of her books. I'm currently writing WIR articles on Afghans, but will keep this on my list for the women's writers event next month...that is unless someone beats me to it ;) I created a Wikidata entry: Q108319031. Best, TJMSmith (talk) 15:12, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

I absolutely agree TJMSmith and also Laurie Fransman. If the home office calls him the expert, who are we to question that? If I ever finish these, there will definitely be redlinks to be done. ;) SusunW (talk) 15:23, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
TJMSmith this p 21 discusses Manby, although briefly, it calls her an expert on African nationality statutes. SusunW (talk) 17:36, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Started a stub article at Bronwen Manby. There are likely more reviews of her works. I'll see what I can add later. TJMSmith (talk) 02:14, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

A Biography article request

Greetings,

I am not good in covering biography articles so I am looking for help in writing a Biography article at least stub level for Turkish Circassian author Hayriye Melek Hunç. At least this one Brill ref seems to be available. If you can request some one else or schedule later also would be okay.

Thanks and warm regards

Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 09:22, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Bookku That chapter seems to be taken from this book. I don't have full access to either, but the Brill article can be ordered from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. I also find [2], [3], Women's Museum İstanbul, and Ahmet Yesevi University. Both the piece from the Women's Museum İstanbul and Ahmet Yesevi University give lists of sources, authors and appear to be edited. She appears to have an entry on page 69 of Türk Dünyası Edebiyatçıları Ansiklopedisi Turkish World Literary Encyclopedia, and on pages 125-126 in the Kafkas diasporası'nda edebiyatçılar ve yazarlar sözlüğü Dictionary of Literati and Writers in the Caucasian Diaspora which possibly the resource exchange could obtain if no one has full access. In any case, she is clearly notable. Ipigott is a polyglot and I often ask for his help with foreign sources, though I do not know if Turkish is one of the languages he speaks. Rosiestep is not only a founder of WIR, but also of the Women Writer's group, so she may also have interest. If you start a draft, I am sure we can get others to pitch in, but if in main space, I would stick the {{Template:In use}} on it, so it doesn't suffer from drive-by deletion requests. SusunW (talk) 15:22, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, Turkish is not one of my languages.--Ipigott (talk) 15:27, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi Bookku. Indeed, I would be interested in reviewing a draft once it's started. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

@SusunW and Rosiestep: Thanks for your inputs & support. As per your suggession I started Draft:Hayriye Melek Hunç with initial google translation from Turkish WP.

Google book link provided by SusunW opened @ my end. (Google books software seem to do such thing that may be their revenue model) I will keep you informed as work progresses. We will need Turkish language support for updating further level of information, I might need to plan a little more effort for that.

Thanks @ Ipigott

Issue of categorization women of Circassian descent

Following kind of categories seem to be available.

  • Category:People of Circassian descent,
Category:People of the Ottoman Empire of Circassian descent
    Category:Turkish people of Circassian descent

But I did not come across a category for women of Circassian descent and women authors of Circassian descent. IDK if I missed any in my brief search.

And if one takes into account socio political thought around ref about Turkish & Cricassian nationalism issues (PDF) a category about circassians of maternal descent is also needed (?) otherwise one side of nationalistic socio political thought considers children fathered by non circassians are not circassians. One can see this debate spilling over even @ Talk:Circassians on one hand and Emily Ruete getting Category:Tanzanian people of Circassian descent. At least I should have been able to reach to her article from a category about women of Circassian descent and women authors of Circassian descent. Some other accidental search took me to Emily Ruete but I could not search for Category:women authors of Circassian descent.

IDK whether authors like Emily Ruete and Hayriye Melek should be categorized as circassian women by maternal descent.

Good start, Bookku! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:49, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Agreed, good start Bookku. I'll make some edits, which you can revert if you don't like for our MOS on basic biography presentation. As for categories, I know virtually nothing about them. I would avoid the socio-political argument. The MOS says you cannot put ethnicity in the lede and wants a default to nationality. Of course that is assuming a male default, i.e. born a Gambian, always a Gambian, which isn't the same for women. (One of the reasons I have been working on women's nationality all year is that I am tired of explaining that nationality was fluid for women and few of our articles previously discussed it.) However based on the MOS, by nationality, she was Ottoman, then Turkish.
What I always do on categories is add the few I know, rely on others to add more, and then ask Ser Amantio di Nicolao when I run into difficulties. I think your categories would be 1896 births, 1963 deaths, People from Balıkesir Province, People of the Ottoman Empire of Circassian descent, Turkish women activists‎, Turkish humanitarians‎, 20th-century women writers of the Ottoman Empire‎, and Writers of the Ottoman Empire. SusunW (talk) 15:32, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks to both of you for valuable inputs. While actually working I found that few intermittent pages on google books are invisible so I will need to ask @ Wiki library for support. Rgds Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Exactly, Bookku. That's why it's so lovely to have the exchange service and lucky that you found that chapter had been published separately. You need to insert page numbers for all of the information taken from that book. The entire chapter range is too large for someone to verify and leaves the reader hunting. I've done one so you can see how it's done. Also need to input information on who Alexandre Toumarkine is and why he is an expert (you'll need a source). SusunW (talk) 16:17, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, I will take more care on page numbers. Turkish Wikipedia seems to have an article tr:Alexandre Toumarkine Refs related to him mostly seem to be in French. May be I request some one from French background for article on him. Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 16:25, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Bookku, I just added professor and linked to the Turkish article. I am finding more and more info about her. Wonder if she could be worked up for Women in Green's October contest? It'd be a fun collaboration if you want to do that. This article in a Turkish women's magazine has some interesting things on an exile. Wonder if they can be substantiated in other sources? This and this (journal articles) appear to focus on her writing. I wonder if you want to post on WIR to see if we have any contributors who speak Turkish and could help? SusunW (talk) 17:31, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, I am feeling encouraged and thinking at least couple of more Circassian descent women biographies I should get to work on. I will post for request @ WiR besides will search histories of articles under Category:Turkish women academics to see if any user from there can help. Rgds.
