Ways to improve Caroline Gaudriault[edit]

Hi, I'm Domdeparis. Sylviafine, thanks for creating Caroline Gaudriault!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article needs more independent source to prove notability. The culturebox suggest notability but more secondary in-depth sources have to be added as at the moment the article could be a candidate for deletion. the subject fails WP:NAUTHOR as it stands.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Help me! CAROLINE GAUDRIAULT[edit]

Please help me with...the article for Caroline Gaudriault.

Hi Domdeparis,

I received your message concerning my article about the author Caroline Gaudriault. It seems I do not have enough secondary sources. I have red the definition and informations about secondary sources but I do not really understand what you mean. Every information in my article has a source and a proof. If I am writing that Caroline wrote an article for Paris-Match and I am attaching this article , I think it shows proof. Can you please tell me why this does not count ?

Thank you very much , I appreciate any help,

Sylvia

Hi There are different criteria that point towards (but do not guarantee) an author's notability and these are contained in WP:NAUTHOR
Authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals:

1 The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
2 The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique.
3 The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
4 The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

A dozen books is good but it doesn't make her notable there has to be multiple sources that that talk about her work. Of the sources you have added

  • Decitre is just a commercial site that sells one of her books
  • L'oeil de la photographie is about Rancinan and just mentions her in passing
  • Paris match is an article written by her so not independent
  • Lemonde is about Rancinan and just mentions her in passing
  • Culturebox is a whats-on article that is about the exhibition and Rancinan and mentions her in passing.

The definition in WP:GNG requires significant coverage of the subject and none of these sources provide significant coverage of her. Please do not hesitate to add French language sources if you can find them. As it is the article does not meet the notabilty requirements and is a serious candidate for deletion. If you find some more sources I will be happy to look at them with you so please do not hesitate to mention my name here by pinging me by typing the following text {{Ping|Domdeparis}} Domdeparis (talk) 10:17, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Domdeparis:

@Domdeparis:

Dear Domdeparis, I have attached 3 new sources to my article.

(1) : a review of one of her books (5): an article about her launching her blog , written by another journaliste (6): an article showing the cooperation between her and Gerard Rancinan.

I started explaining in my article that she is an author BUT ALSO, and maybe primarily, in cooperation with Gerard Rancinan. As they are working for 20 years together, their works merged.

I hope this is better now? Thanks for your help,

Sylvia Sylviafine (talk) 12:28, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sylvia, I can only see one extra source and I'm afraid that the source that you added cannot be considered as adding much to the notability as it is an affiliated source. Let me explain, he is promoting a webzine for which he is one of the contributors so it is not an independent source. She is a "collaboratrice" of Rancinan and all the sources that mention her are in connection with him. Notability is never inherited. Domdeparis (talk) 13:19, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Domdeparis: Hello, Sorry, I think my changes were not saved correctly. I think everything is there now. New sources: 1 / 5 / 6 . And: Paul Ardenne is promoting the Zig Zag blog but he did not write for it ! Thanks! 92.128.8.147 (talk) 16:27, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On Ardenne's blog page he even talks about himself in the third person when he says about the zigzag blog "Parmi les premiers invités appelés à s’exprimer, on peut citer Jacques Attali, économiste et conseiller d’Etat, Paul Ardenne, critique d’art" and when you check out the zigzag blog he has written an article about Rancinan [1] so he clearly is not independent of the blog. And unfortunately blogs are generally not considered as WP:RS and definitely not associated blogs that mutually promote each other. Of the other 2 sources one is written by herself so not useful but the other one is closer to what is needed but we are still flirting with notability by association. Domdeparis (talk) 16:57, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Domdeparis: Why are you thinking that the source 1 is written by her? It is a book review from an independent magazine (art croissance). And even if the most of her projects are in collaboration with Gerard Rancinan that does not mean that we are flirting with notability by association. They are working together for more than 20 years, so they can be seen as an artist couple (and there are a many in this world). That does not mean that she is less famous. And if you tape her name in google, it seems pretty obvious that she is well known in France and even in the rest of the world.
