Editor Connotations

As a professional historian, I am averse to the removal of the editor tags at the end of identified editors on the pages you've recently adjusted for several reasons. Foremost among them, Wikipedia does not show the names of the persons as Editor(s) when it merely says: In Joe Schmo, Susie BagofDonuts, Book Title. Two harv ref Wiki examples of the same text to demonstrate what I mean:

  1. Peterson, Neal H. (2002) [1992]. "From Hitler's Doorstep: Allen Dulles and the Penetration of Germany". In George C. Chalou, ed. (ed.). The Secrets War: The Office of Strategic Services in World War II. Washington DC: National Archives and Records Administration. ISBN 0-911333-91-6. {{cite book}}: |editor= has generic name (help); Invalid |ref=harv (help)
  2. Peterson, Neal H. (2002) [1992]. "From Hitler's Doorstep: Allen Dulles and the Penetration of Germany". In George C. Chalou (ed.). The Secrets War: The Office of Strategic Services in World War II. Washington DC: National Archives and Records Administration. ISBN 0-911333-91-6. {{cite book}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help)

As you'll note, in number 1 you clearly see that George Chalou was the editor of the work and may not have written anything more than an Introduction, if that. But in number 2, it looks as though he was the work's principal author instead of its editor. Those extra "editor parameters" are the only way to make the work appear properly from an academic standpoint. For that reason, I respectfully request that you refrain from making this correction. Thanks--Obenritter (talk) 20:28, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, but do you have maintenance category errors turned on? Using the "ed." or other equivalent in an editor parameter in any of the basic citation templates creates a CS1 citation error, the notice for which can't be seen if you don't have that turned on. These errors are collected in Category:CS1 maint: Extra text: editors list. I'm correcting those errors. If there is no author parameter used, {{cite book}} will append "ed." or "eds." to any names in editor parameters. If there is an author, the template simply uses "In". That is, apparently, the established style for such citations, so I don't know what to tell you. I kind of agree that it's a weird situation so I will bring it up on the template talk page. Thanks again.— TAnthonyTalk 20:49, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. While I understand these are Wiki quirks, I would argue that they misrepresent the work from an author/editor publisher perspective when they do not properly display them as editors and are therefore legally incorrect. That should take precedence over any Wiki errors. --Obenritter (talk) 20:57, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
(WP:TPS here) I'm not familiar with AWB, but judging from this edit, the problem seems to be that AWB compounds previous editor error in removing "(ed.)" from an "author" field. The same edit did correctly remove "(eds)" from an "editor2-first" field. What AWB should have done is replace "author=Hunt, Chris (ed.)" with "editor=Hunt, Chris", or at least pop up a warning. This issue should be reported to the devs. Paradoctor (talk) 20:57, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
Actually, that was (my) human error, which I've fixed in that article. I'm going to adjust the AWB template but it's actually on me to look at the edits closer as I go.— TAnthonyTalk 22:25, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
If you believe this should change, you may leave a comment on Help talk:CS1 to make your case. This has been discussed before, so you may want to research your suggested change first. AIUI in this case, this is a normal-looking citation in the academic world. --Izno (talk) 22:45, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
Ha, I just did that, thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 23:03, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
@Obenritter: You may be able to comment more eloquently on the topic.— TAnthonyTalk 23:04, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi TAnthony, I noticed that you have reverted disruptive editing on the article several times just like I did. I think the page should be page protected due to repeatedly disruptive editing from various ip addresses. — YoungForever(talk) 23:26, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

@YoungForever: Yes, every time it happens I hope it's the last! We can request protection but it will only be temporary, and there haven't been many nuisance edits in the past week. But if there's an uptick I will definitely do it. Thanks! — TAnthonyTalk 00:11, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

Seeking help resolving duplicate LGBT Literature/LGBT literature topics

I am a newbie to Wikipedia and am looking forward to contributing to the community, but at this point my skills are limited.

I am seeking your help in resolving an issue with the LGBT Literature topic.

The problem I am seeing is that when I clicked on LGBT Literature topic in Karin Kallmaker's infobox it took me to a page titled 'LGBT Literature', but the article was clearly solely about Gay Literature. A little more sleuthing showed that there are two LGBT Literature/LGBT literature topics, distinguished only by the upper/lower-case 'L' in literature. I suspect at one time the article may have been more inclusive, and perhaps this issue arose when someone clumsily tried to split it.

In any case, it presents a pretty serious problem with Wikipedia's gateway to LGBT Literature. (And certainly sent my blood pressure up when I first encountered it.)

Are you able to help with this?

IdRatherBeAtTheBeach (talk) 18:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

@IdRatherBeAtTheBeach: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for your message! I believe you're correct that this issue is a remnant of the evolution of the gay literature and lesbian literature articles (LGBT literature was actually moved to gay literature in 2010). In any case, I see an easy fix. First, I'll redirect LGBT Literature (capital L) to the disambiguation page LGBT literature. There are only six pages or so that link to LGBT Literature (including Karin Kallmaker), and I will update those links with the proper gay or lesbian determiner if I can. Thanks again.— TAnthonyTalk 18:55, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Use of NOGALLERY in categories

Hey TAnthony, can you point me to the relevant guideline/policy about "NOGALLERY" usage? --Gonnym (talk) 17:36, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Hey there, thanks for the message. It's actually mentioned in WP:NFCC #8: Restrictions on location. Non-free content is allowed only in articles (not disambiguation pages), and only in article namespace, subject to exemptions. (To prevent an image category from displaying thumbnails, add __NOGALLERY__ to it; images are linked, not inlined, from talk pages when they are a topic of discussion.) Thanks! — TAnthonyTalk 17:45, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Best, aaldere1 (talk) 19:17, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

@Aaldere1:Hi, thanks for the message, and thanks for linking this article from other articles. I've removed the tag, which you are OK to do yourself in the future when you've made a good-faith correction to address the issue. This applies to most maintenance tags used for article content, though if another editor restores the tag, you should leave it and seek clarification on what improvements he/she believes should be made. Of course, deletion and move tags should not be removed until the request is resolved.— TAnthonyTalk 19:27, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

RE: Spoilers in Character description

Hi, I understand that spoilers are not muted but don't understand why they need to be in the character description. A cursory glance at the wiki page can spoil an entire series this way. They are already included in the Episode summaries, and rightfully so.

Aconspiracy (talk) 16:34, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

@Aconspiracy: Thanks for your message. Spoilers in character descriptions have been argued in many, many articles, and efforts to remove them are usually shot down. But please start a discussion at Talk:Titans (2018 TV series) explaining why you think they're inappropriate, and maybe an alternative can be found. In general I agree that character descriptions/intros aren't meant to be comprehensive, but I'm used to it now. My biggest issue with it is that the spoilers are often selective, because they are added by editors who love to spoil the juiciest tidbits. For example, in The Man in the High Castle (TV series), the character descriptions are short, incomplete sentences, EXCEPT for the ones that detail how the character dies in a later season. That's annoying.— TAnthonyTalk 16:47, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

@TAnthony:Thank you for the response. Not used to people being polite and intelligent on the internet, so thanks for that too. Aconspiracy (talk) 19:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Hidden navigator

Hello, the article navigators on my page were inspired by yours. Do you know if there's a way to keep them compressed? Mine are becoming unwieldy. Also, great work on the Luna books! I have been meaning to say that for years. Mainly 21:03, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm just OBSESSED with the Luna books LOL. As far as compressing the nav templates, I don't know what your endgame is, but I use panels at User:TAnthony to squeeze mine a bit, which eliminates some of the extra space. You could also set the state to collapsed, but I don't think you want to hide the entire thing. {{Div col}} works on nav templates but you'd want to choose a decent sized colwidth and it would still be on the ugly side haha.— TAnthonyTalk 21:45, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
You also may be able to somehow use {{Hidden begin}} on sections you wish to hide, but I've never tried it inside a nav template.— TAnthonyTalk 21:47, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
I'm equally obsessed! Thank you for your help, I will probably leave them as they are for now. Have a good one! Mainly 23:01, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

notability

You create a redirect to a fictional character, in a walled garden of uncited content and nav templates, and question the notability of someone mentioned in the real world. Think twice before challenging my removal of that reaction. cygnis insignis 15:37, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

@Cygnis insignis: Redirects are not required to be notable. Biographic articles are. I wasn't tagging your stub for deletion, but calling attention to it as requiring further assessment. And I would add, the fictional character was linked from/mentioned in multiple articles, your snake woman is not. Think twice? Threats get editors blocked. — TAnthonyTalk 16:23, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
That was not a threat, it was 'get over yourself and then reflect on whether to pursue the elevation of trivial garbage and fancruft'. Redirects need to be established as notable at their target, the cross linking looks very much like a walled garden. So no? cygnis insignis 16:36, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Hmm, I'm not sure why you are so offended by a notability tag. The sources provided (an academic paper she cowrote and her faculty bio) may establish Sanders as a herpetologist, but as far as I'm concerned they don't establish her as a notable one. If she is, then you should have no problem finding sources that discuss her and her work in a significant way. It doesn't seem like you're very familiar with WP:REDIRECT, however, and the notability of a topic is certainly not one of the criteria for deleting a redirect to it. Feel free to tag away on soap opera redirects but that doesn't solve your Sanders problem.— TAnthonyTalk 17:00, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

TAnthony I need a favor about Dynasty Original Links in New Lady in Town (Dynasty 1984). Dynasty original has originally debuted or airing in 1981. About link on "New Lady in Town (Dynasty 2017)". Dynasty reboot as corrected airing in 2019 debuted reboot on 2017. "New Lady in Town (Dynasty 1984)". Season four airing in 1984. Correctly Links as "New Lady in Town (Dynasty 1981) Thank You. Barneysss (talk) 12:13, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

@Barneysss: Hey thanks for your message. The 1980s Dynasty is tricky because they gave some episodes in different seasons the same names, so the redirects are disambiguated with the airdate year. "The Wedding (Dynasty 1982)", "The Wedding (Dynasty 1983)" and "The Wedding (Dynasty 1989)" are three different episodes. This happened several times, see Category:Dynasty (1981 TV series) episode redirects to lists. I created New Lady in Town (Dynasty 1984) to stay in line with that, but I suppose New Lady in Town (Dynasty 1981) is actually proper disambiguation.— TAnthonyTalk 12:50, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism on Adrian Bellani page

Hi TAnthony! It looks like Allisonscameron added unverifiable information onto the Adrian Bellani page. Is there a way to prevent them from doing this in the future? They seem pretty persistent. There was a similar issue with the Jennifer Morrison page where Allisonscameron was also involved and El_C had to semi-lock the page and remove the edit from this user. You can see what happened here: Jennifer Morrison: Revision history. Since I am a new user, I am not sure if there is anything I can do to help but I saw you in the revision history page and thought you could step in. – Onchorda (talk) 15:02, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

@ TAnthony , Jennifer Morrison confirmed herself in her instagram posts and story that Adrian Bellani is HER MAN. The only vandalism is to not add or delete this confirmation off her page or also Gerardo’s/Adrian’s page, along with the others that already exist. Allisonscameron (talk) 13:51, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your message. Writing that these people are dating based on this post relies on YOUR INTERPRETATION, which is unacceptable. There is no harm in leaving this trivial information out of the article until we have a clear and reliable source.— TAnthonyTalk 14:15, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

So Jennifer herself confirming Gerardo as “her man” on her social media after posting so much content with him, is not a clear and reliable source for you? It was the same as the people they’ve already been mentioned in her article. Haha okay then, you can put add the info in after their wedding. Allisonscameron (talk) 19:38, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

The identification of Morrison's past boyfriends is cited with actual journalistic sources. It may seem obvious to us that she and Bellani are dating from her posts, but calling him "my man" leaves much room for interpretation. Bellani could be her personal trainer (I know he's not, but our personal opinions have no bearing on article content). In any case, hopefully there will be some mention of the relationship by a reliable source before their actual wedding lol.— TAnthonyTalk 19:49, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

@Danny157: I took a look at the draft and you're off to a great start, I especially appreciate the citations. The main issue I see is that the article is all about plot, and does not reference any real-world context (popularity, discussion in soap mags and websites) asserting notability. Carol Foley and Farrah Phelan have sourced Reception or Development sections, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Other possible topics include Casting, Characterization, or Awards. Pauline Fowler and Todd Manning are ultimate examples of a soap character article (they have Featured Article status, the highest level of quality), but obviously no one expects a new article to be that robust. Some examples of decent start articles are Blair Cramer and Dorian Lord. Other articles like Yvonne Gleeson are currently all plot, and that is leaving them open to eventual deletion or a merge/redirect to List of Fair City characters.— TAnthonyTalk 17:57, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Glad that you appreciate the citations. I can’t find any sources for real-world context for Leo Dowling, though, so I guess an article on him doesn’t fit notability. Thanks for the info anyway.Danny157 (talk) 18:53, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

sandboxes

Hello TAnthony, thanks for the fixes on Gilroy v Flynn, Dunne v Donohue, and Dunne v Director of Public Prosecutions. I'm wondering if you can help me resolve some conflicting information about sandboxes. I edit with students from an Irish university and thus do not have the support of the Wikipedia Education Foundation (they are strictly North American). I use the Outreach Dashboard and have gleaned most of my wiki-knowledge from various Wikimedia sources. These two (one and two) instruct students/facilitators on how to move the sandbox to main space. However, I did this with the sandbox of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gskcme for Dunne v Donohoe and it looks like it created a redirect where this student's sandbox used to be. After some googling I discovered this: Wikipedia:Misuse of the sandbox#Redirecting the sandbox. Mea culpa! Sure enough, the top of Dunne v Donohue has a redirect. Can a 'normal' user break a redirect? I'd like to try to fix the problem myself rather than create additional work for wikignomes such as yourself. I found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help_talk:Sandbox_tutorial but I'm afraid this might wipe the content of the Dunne v Donohoe article. Is there a way to move from Sandbox without creating a redirect? Perhaps I left or deleted the sandbox template before or after I should have? Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks in advance for any help. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 21:10, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

@AugusteBlanqui: Thanks for your message. Someone with page mover rights (like myself) can move a page without leaving a redirect behind. I'm surprised that "normal" editors aren't allowed to do this for sandboxes (when you start the Move process, there would be a checkbox saying "Leave a redirect behind" that you would uncheck). You may be eligible for this right once you've performed 3000 edits (you seem to be at 2246 now). Anyway, Wikipedia:Misuse of the sandbox is really talking about the main sandbox (WP:Sandbox). To my knowledge it's not so big of a deal to have a redirect in a user sandbox like User:Gskcme/sandbox because that space will (presumably) only be used by the editor himself. But the easiest fix is just to blank the page (which I have just done), rendering it harmless and available for future re-use. If you really want to be thorough, as the owner Gskcme can request that his sandbox be speedily deleted by placing the template {{db-owner}} on the page. Also, the redirect you see at the top of any of these articles only shows when you have arrived at the main article by way of the redirect; if you refresh the article or come to it another way, the redirect display goes away, and no one would even know it was there unless they specifically looked (Special:WhatLinksHere/Dunne_v_Donohoe). Thanks!— TAnthonyTalk 21:42, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

cite template not adding p for page

Re: Clara Schumann article

Hello. Just to explain what's up: the cite template does not add the "p." or "pp." before page numbers for journals, only for books. It didn't use to be, but at some point the template code was changed to display journals with a different, but fairly common, citation format. So to get the p to display it has to be manually entered. There's an ongoing discussion of whether we should use this compact format (produced automatically by the cite template) or an easier-to-read format with Vol., No., and P. labels, at Talk:Clara Schumann#pp. Welcome to join. Chuckstreet (talk) 04:16, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

I have joined that discussion. But you cannot decide on a different style for a widely-used citation template at the article level.— TAnthonyTalk 04:35, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
Actually you CAN decide on a different style within the cite template; it has parameters for that. But a citation style per se can and is decided on at the article level: each article on WP can use a different citation/reference style. It's a matter of personal preference. The WP:MOS rule is the original writer of the article decides on the citation style, and that shouldn't be changed to a different style by anyone subsequently, unless the article is undergoing a major rewrite (like the Clara Schumann page currently is). Chuckstreet (talk) 06:24, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
If adding the p for journal citations was intended to be an option, {{cite journal}} would have the functionality without requiring a workaround. But it doesn't. You can choose citation style on an article-by-article basis, but in that case you can't use the template if you're going to bastardize it. That said, I appreciate this good faith edit and apologize if things got at all antagonistic over this. I have been on your side of this kind of discussion more than once. I hope we can work together again in the future.— TAnthonyTalk 13:53, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Question about an article

I was wondering if you could help me here. I came across the article for the singer Elbert West, and cannot figure out how or why his page name is in italics. There isn't anything in his infobox that has it set for italics. Is that the result of the infobox itself, like with film articles? Rusted AutoParts 17:00, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Hey there, it was the presence of {{Infobox album}}, but I added the parameter to supress italicization.— TAnthonyTalk 17:51, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Use of copyrighted images

Thanks for your note about the nuances around copyrighted images on Wikipedia vs. Wikimedia Commons.

I'm unable to access the Wikipedia upload page due to a permissions issue, but I believe that the images I uploaded to Wikimedia should be used as the poster images for the various Apple TV+ shows I edited, given that they were distributed by Apple's press team for the purpose of visually identifying the shows in third-party media/press.

How can I go about adding copyrighted images which I believe qualify for fair use, such as company logos, cover art, etc.? I'm eager to be a good citizen of Wikipedia, but this is a tricky area for new contributors.

Thanks,

Martialplum (talk) 13:43, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

@Martialplum: Thanks for your message. While WikiProject Film generally prefers promotional posters to identify films in their infoboxes, WikiProject Television prefers the title card itself. So even if we uploaded the images you chose under the fair use policy, they would likely be challenged and replaced. Moving forward, when you gain access to the file upload tool, I recommend using the wizard, which walks you through the process and asks the pertinent questions. When you're more comfortable with the requirements you may find it quicker to use the "expert form" and copy templates from similar images. File:The_Dark_Crystal-Age_of_Resistance_(2019).png, File:Doom Patrol logo.jpg, and File:Star_Wars_Resistance.jpg are examples of TV series infobox images; you will notice that in addition to providing a fair use rationale (why you feel the use of the image meets the criteria outlined in Wikipedia:Non-free content), you must also provide a license template, usually {{Non-free title-card}} for TV title images. Without one of these elements, the file will be tagged for deletion. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 15:53, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Sources for genres (Small Soldiers)

Hi. Film isn't really my field at all but I saw you say "We insist on sources for genres" here and I immediately thought of Small Soldiers, which I ended up looking at because it was recently on the telly. The lead describes it as a science fiction war film, where "war" was added, along with "comedy", in this edit on 10 April 2019. I feel that it is not a war film, but I would probably not be able to argue it from a properly informed stance. I wondered what your view would be. If you aren't interested please don't worry for a moment, but if you felt like having a look then I would appreciate it. I have not yet tried the Talk page but I might if/when time permits ... or not. It is hardly urgent! Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 15:51, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

I watch more book and TV articles than films, but assigning genres tends to be a hotly debated topic, as editors might add them based on their personal opinion rather than what accepted sources have said. Basically, if a listed genre is not supported by one of the reliable sources cited in the article, it is acceptable for you to remove it, or tag it as requiring sources. This also goes for article categories, though you can't tag those. As far as needing to argue your point, you really don't need to if you explain in your edit summary that it's a sourcing issue. You may also want to head off any challenges by looking for sources yourself.— TAnthonyTalk 16:07, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
I just googled "Small Soldiers war" and came up with this article, which does kind of refer to it as a war film. But I haven't seen the film so I'll leave it up to your interpretation.— TAnthonyTalk 16:09, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Knots Landing cast table

So, it looks like one of use should probably convert the cast table currently at Knots Landing#Cast into the standard format (e.g. using {{CMain}}, etc.) one of these days... I have some recent experience with this (having just done something like this at The Tribe (1999 TV series), having done the drafts at one of my sandbox pages...), so if you don't give it a shot yourself, I'll try to get to it over the next month or so. FWIW. --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:43, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

OK, I've worked up a new draft cast table at User:IJBall/sandbox3#Knots Landing. I'd appreciate if you could take a look at it, and "approve" it before I put it in the article.
Note that I reordered the following cast as compared to the current table – Julie Harris, Claudia Lonow, Patrick Petersen, Tonya Crowe, and Lisa Hartman – as per MOS:TVCAST, which says to list in order of appearance at that role level... The one thing I can't check is crediting order, season-by-season, so if you notice anything in wrong order on that score, please let me know!!
Once you "OK" this, I'll move it to the article... Thanks! --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:44, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
Hey there I'm out of the country on vacation but I took a look at your table and it looks great! Thanks so much for taking care of that.— TAnthonyTalk 06:41, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me! I'll go ahead and replace the table now (and maybe do some other cleanup over at the Knots Landing article)... And sorry to interrupt your vacation! --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:05, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
Done. OK, I've also cleaned up the 'Cast' section some, by removing unnecessary bolding as per MOS:BOLD, and I've removed the unsourced episode counts as per WP:TVCAST. However, there are still plenty of problems, both in terms of the 'Cast' section and in terms of the overall article. In terms of the cast section, the "year ranges" should be replaced with (more detailed) season ranges for all of the characters listed. In terms of the article, the current version doesn't do a very good job of following MOS:TV. When you get back from vacation, you may want to take a closer look at the article. On my end, I'll continue to mull things over, and may get back to it to make some further improvements... --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:37, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

question on formatting for citations

hi @TAnthony:, thank you for fixing my citations here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bridgewater_Associates&type=revision&diff=930085933&oldid=930052386&diffmode=source. Thanks for your message, and for your contributions to Wikipedia! This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

hi @TAnthony:, I thought I might run this by you to see if you had any guidance. I spent more time than I feel comfortable sharing trying to figure this out a while ago...and thought you may have some ideas. Some of my attempts are here but they are all too complicated to engage with for me [link]. . Do you have any ideas? Thank you WestportWiki (talk) 15:54, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Hey there, what exactly do you intend to use these bar charts for? There may actually be a preexisting template that you could use, or copy and customize for your purposes. number 2: on this page, under the section "Afro-Colombian", where it says "36%". Can you change the 36% to 10.4%? there is no source proves Afro-Colombian made up 36% of Colombian population

number 3:on this page, in the right corner, where shows "Black" with "37%". Can you change it to 10.4%? Even the source link it provided doesn't say 37%. The source link 2 it provided shows Afro-Colombian made up 10.5% of Colombia total population.
number 4: And under the "Racial/ethnic groups and their frequency", where it says "specifically, it reported that the Afro-Colombian population accounted for 20% percent of the national population (4.7 million people)". Can you change the 20% to 10.4%?

The Mandalorian characters

Hey TAnthony. As you know, I've been creating and working on articles about The Mandalorian character. I just published List of The Mandalorian characters (which is a bit different in format than some of the other Star Wars character lists; I modeled it more after List of Alien (film series) characters.) I still need to go through and proofread that new list article, but it's complete enough that I moved it out from my sandbox. My endgame has always been to create a The Mandalorian characters good topic, with the overarching list article as the anchor featured list, and the standalone character articles as good articles. I've already nominated all the character articles I created for GA; the only two left are the two biggest ones, The Mandalorian and The Child, neither of which I've worked on substantially yet. I'm reaching out to you because I know you've worked on both, so I wanted to see any thoughts you had before I started adding any content to them. Did you want to double-team those articles? Should I go ahead and proceed, and perhaps you can keep an eye on my edits as I go? Do you have any other thoughts? Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 05:19, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

@Hunter Kahn: I'm out of town and unable to do much editing today, but please have at it! I'll of course check out your edits but based on your other articles I'm sure your improvements will be great!— TAnthonyTalk 17:57, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Accurate airdates for Dynasty (1981)

I'm not sure why the airdates were changed. I spent days researching newspapers on newspapers.com (mainly NY Daily News) for accuracy on the airdates. Everything I've read suggests seasons 2 and 3 premiered on November 11, 1981 and October 27, 1982 respectively. Are we sure TV Tango is 100% accurate? Is there anything I can do to prove that the newspaper listings on newspapers.com are the accurate ones?--2600:6C50:700C:200:B052:A56C:6712:CC97 (talk) 02:03, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the message! I used TV Tango for citations but I confirmed the dates from the DVD packaging. I just checked again right now, the DVDs have S2 premiering on 11/4/81 and S3 on 9/29/82. Do you have urls to the newspapers that contradict this?— TAnthonyTalk 04:31, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Here are two sources.

https://www.newspapers.com/search/#query=dynasty+season+premiere&lnd=1&ymd=1981-11-11

https://www.newspapers.com/search/#query=dynasty+season+premiere&lnd=1&ymd=1982-10-27

I have no idea where the DVDs got the airdates from; these newspaper listings from back in the day said something completely different. Perhaps we should wait until more original broadcasts circulate to confirm that the vintage newspapers were correct? What would you suggest?--2600:6C50:700C:200:B052:A56C:6712:CC97 (talk) 04:38, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Also, TAnthony, November 4, 1981 was the two-hour pilot movie for The Fall Guy. So, Dynasty did not air that day.2600:6C50:700C:200:B052:A56C:6712:CC97 (talk) 22:01, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks so much for providing the urls, they are very convincing. I would agree that these vintage newspaper articles trump TV Tango and even the DVD packaging (I've seen such errors in "official" sources before). Though urls are not required for sources that exist on paper, in this case I think a citation is essential because this information contradicts more readily-available sources. Also, though it's not usually advisable to use a search query in a citation, we can't really uses any of the individual newspaper links and have the defining source be subscription-only, plus it is a search within Newspapers.com, which I find acceptable here. I may or may not be able to take a crack at this today, feel free to correct the dates and cite these sources if you desire, just be sure to preserve newly-added info like (ratings) and their corresponding citations. Thanks!— TAnthonyTalk 15:53, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Okay, I have since updated the sources for the accurate airdates. I've done this for season 2, and already did this for season 3. I noticed they were the only two seasons that needed a little adjusting in airdates.. Ratings information is still consistent with each episode. Also, TAnthony, another thing to keep in mind: Dynasty and also The Colbys never aired any repeat episodes during the time first-run episodes were airing; typically September to May. Only during the Summer break were there reruns.--2600:6C50:700C:200:B052:A56C:6712:CC97 (talk) 20:20, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Casualty mainspace category

Hello – I noticed you did some work on the Doctors characters category, and I noticed a similar issue on Category:Casualty characters; a lot of redirects to lists are included in the mainspace category and I was wondering if you'd be able to fix it? Hola-- I have no idea if your work on the page I edited was manual, partially machine-driven, or all machine-driven, but thank you all the same. If you have time to answer, I'd appreciate it.... I am trying to follow wikipedia forms re: footnotes. Are your changes the acknowledged gold standard? Pardon my ignorance--but I'm trying to develop my style correctly! All best Sicklemoon (talk) 16:10, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi, the edit was semi-automated but that article was targeted based on its use of "USA". It doesn't look like it made any changes to citations except for removing stray spaces before them, but the citations look fine to me. Thanks!— TAnthonyTalk 16:33, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Again, thanks for the information. That article needed a lot of work, and I'm just familiarizing myself with the standards here. Given that I'm focussed on areas that many will consider obscure (and I have at least a basic idea of how to city my sources!), I'm not expecting anything complicated. But seeing that feedback and correction has happened is, of course, reassuring! All best, Sicklemoon (talk) 22:19, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Bulleted list in infobox

Hi, what does this edit change? There are 23,000+ pages that use Template:Infobox NFL biography and I can't say I've seen one that uses {{bulleted list}} instead of asterisks. Eagles 24/7 (C) 12:24, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I was trying to clear the accessibility issue category Category:Infobox NFL biography articles with line breaks (which notes "Per MOS:VLIST, many of these should be replaced with proper list structures") but of course it's the line breaks that are the problem.— TAnthonyTalk 13:17, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I believe the edit I've made here will remove Andrew Breiner from that category (there are many, many articles using this infobox that use <br> instead of <br /> that don't show up in that maintenance category), but I'm not sure that addresses the underlying accessibility issues. Eagles 24/7 (C) 13:26, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I found the issue. Only break lines from |pastteams= were populating that category, and typically break lines are only used in |pastcoaching= to show the coaching titles for each bullet. Breiner had the wrong parameter, but obviously Template:Infobox NFL biography would need to update its tracking to include break lines in |pastcoaching= as well. Eagles 24/7 (C) 13:32, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Interesting, thanks for troubleshooting that!— TAnthonyTalk 13:36, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi TAnthony, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Miles Colby

Hello,

Congratulations for your great work on Sable and Monica Colby ! Are you planning to do more articles on the Colby family, especially Miles ?

Have a good day ! 2001:861:3AC0:59C0:B19A:DDD4:AEB9:7B12 (talk) 09:47, 20 May 2020 (UTC) GillesDenver.

I mostly chose Sable and Monica because they ended up appearing as series regulars on Dynasty. I also wanted to create a Monica article since she's in the reboot series but very changed, and I was interested in the contrast of the two versions of the character. In any case, I hadn't thought about doing Miles anytime soon but I'm willing to doa little research and see what's out there to make an article from.— TAnthonyTalk 21:13, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Standup Paddleboarding edit

I'm currently working on the Standup Paddleboarding article for a class. It looks like you condensed the repeat resources into one. Thank you! I haven't been able to figure that out yet. MollyMoxenFree (talk) 17:08, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

@MollyMoxenFree: No problem, consolidating citations is actually one of the general fixes built into AutoWikiBrowser that occurs automatically when you are using the tool to perform other tasks. Your article was on my "to-do list" because there was extra text in two instances of |edition=. You do not need to put "ed." or "edition" into this parameter (or "p." or "page" in |page=) because the template adds "ed." and "p." to the rendered display of the citation by itself. Thanks for your edits and welcome to Wikipedia!— TAnthonyTalk 17:16, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Reversion without discussion despite a request not to re-revert without discussion

I don't know why you chose to revert me at Docklands Light Railway rolling stock when I explicitly asked you to discus things before reverting, particularly given that I explained my reasoning for reverting you the first time: despite the numbers black on that shade cyan is harder to read in practice and doesn't match the official colours (which AIUI are legally compliant with contrast requirements). I have started the discussion that both WP:BRD (it's not BRR) and my explicit request indicated you should have done. See WT:UKRAIL#DLR colours. Thryduulf (talk) 09:46, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Bottom line, your color contrast using white text violates all four WCAG accessibility criteria, and places the article into Category:Articles using Template:Infobox train with invalid colour combination. There is no need for discussion. WP:COLOR requires that all criteria be met for accessibility reasons. Your teal color #00B2A9 with black text passes all four criteria. As I noted in my edit summary, take a look at the color tool: https://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html#fg=FFFFFF,bg=00B2A9 which illustrates this. A darker shade may meet the contrast requirements with white text. But it doesn't matter if you or other editors personally believe the color contrast is better, there is a policy.— TAnthonyTalk 14:59, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
It's not "my colour" it's the official colour of the system. If you think that we shouldn't use those colours (for whatever reason) we shouldn't be using them anywhere and we should have a unified approach to what works. Policy does not legitimise revert warring nor ignoring explicit requests for discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 15:50, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
There is no "rule" that an infobox or table color needs to match the real-world official colors. Accessibility policies are in place so people have equal access to Wikipedia pages, whether they have visual impairments or are using mobile devices. This is not a content dispute, what exactly do you want to discuss? The accepted DLR color FAILS when used with white text. It's fine with black text, which is the way it is mostly used. And it is inappropriate to leave improper contrast in the article until you decide on another solution. You're welcome to bring this up on any talk page you like but you're not going to get a different answer. Other pages that use {{DLR color}} are doing so properly with black text, as with Waterloo & City line#Map_and_stations. In Docklands Light Railway rolling stock you are actually subverting the template's function by adding "color: white"; the template is designed to automatically choose a text color (black or white) that has the best contrast, and if you take the color syntax out, the template chooses black.— TAnthonyTalk 16:22, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
@Thryduulf: Anthony is continuing to revert back and edit war despite being told not to, and so far has reverted three times: [6], [7], [8]. C2A06 (AboutTalkEdits) 12:21, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, but in this instance you don't have the right to "tell me not to". I've explained AGAIN at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_UK_Railways#DLR_colours but you guys are not getting it. This is the Wiipedia equivalent of not having a handicap ramp outside your store.— TAnthonyTalk 13:04, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
No TAnthony, you are not getting it. Many users are saying that white text on a turquoise background is easiest to read as well as being the official DLR colour scheme, and yet you continued reverting to black text, and further, you only insist on changing the colour scheme on the Docklands Light Railway rolling stock and not on all the other pages where the white text/turquoise background colour scheme is used. And the only excuse you have given is that the colour scheme fails all four accessibility criteria, when you have not specifically told us which are the four criteria it fails ([9]). C2A06 (AboutTalkEdits) 14:16, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
I've provided an easy way to see the criteria in each one of these discussions: https://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html#fg=FFFFFF,bg=00B2A9 Look for NO. Or here, look for Fail. Again, you can get 10,000 readers to say they think a color scheme is hard to read, but the color tools are the only thing that can establish what is scientifically/medically difficult to view under universally accepted standards. And as I believe I mentioned somewhere or other, only bad infobox color usage is being tracked by that maintenance category, but all instances of the current DLR color with white text will also need to be changed to comply. But you seem to have become more accepting of change thanks to the ongoing discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_UK_Railways#DLR_colours. I'm glad you support changing to a darker color, which I previously suggested here when I said that A darker shade may meet the contrast requirements with white text. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 14:52, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

EastEnders characters

Hi, I just noticed that back in February you removed redirects from Category:EastEnders characters. However, this category is meant to be for all characters regardless of whether they are a redirect or an article, and the fact that there is a subcategory does not matter, as that is for all the redirects regardless of how many there are for each character and a lot of them are poor quality redirects - basically a Wikipedia maintenance category rather than one for navigation. AWB use

Hallo, one of the rules for AWB use is "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. " Edits like this one and this, apparently only changing "accessdate" to "access-date" and perhaps removing a blank line or two, seem to come within that description, and only clutter other editors' watchlists without making any significant improvement. Please consider being more selective in your editing, and only editing pages where you are going to make a worthwhile difference. Thanks. PamD 17:35, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. As you may know, the lack of the hyphen in certain citation template parameters generates CS1 maintenance error messages. I'm not sure if you have maintenance messages enabled, so you may not see them. In any case, Monkbot has been actively making the same type of edits ([10][11]) per the approved task User:Monkbot/task 18: cosmetic cs1 template cleanup, which remains active although the bot itself has not been active much since February. The task approval notes: For the record, this bot task is being done so that future improvements to the cs1/2 template family will not have to deal with improper parameters, old copies of deprecated parameters, and otherwise hacking together support for multiple outdated or soon-to-be-invalid parameters. The argument has been made in the past that by removing these templates/pages from tracking categories, there is a reasonable lightening of the load of human editors, and better allows for actual tracking of invalid or mistaken parameters (i.e. it's easier to clear a cat with 100 pages with errors than a cat with 1000 pages). Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 17:59, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
The bot has not been active because a subsequent RfC found that these edits did not have consensus. See RfC. A subsequent CfD found consensus for deletion of the category you reference. As PamD notes, you should not be continuing to make these edits using AWB; please stop. Nikkimaria (talk) 21:17, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, I was unaware. But as far as I can tell, the category and the maintenance error messages are still there. And please don't talk to me like I just started editing. BTW, your reverting Chloe Price twice is just as "unnecessary", since both versions of the parameter are correct.— TAnthonyTalk 21:23, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
I apologize if you got that impression; I first posted to inform you of those discussions, and then when you continued to make the edits noted that you shouldn't be doing that, because the parameters aren't actually errors and there isn't consensus supporting automated changes of this kind. Nikkimaria (talk) 21:29, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. And looking at it now, my last comment was pretty snarky so I apologize as well.— TAnthonyTalk 21:43, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

October 2021

When will it be appropraite to change the images for the Dune characters that you reverted? What impact does the 2021 films need to have? Any sort of threshold? Triosdeity (talk) 01:26, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

@TAnthony your argument about non-free use is reduntant since the original images before my edits are also non-free. Triosdeity (talk) 01:32, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I should have explained some of this when you commented on the character talk pages. Basically how it works for most literary characters (I know it's different for comic book characters) is that the first or "definitive" image of the character is set as the primary one. This never really changes unless the impact of a new adaptation overshadows the previous ones. We don't typically just replace the infobox image with the newest one because it's the most recent. The current images have been here for 10-15 years, and I would argue that until now the Lynch imagery is what most people think of when they think of Dune. Longstanding images like these are presumed to have general consensus, so it would take a discussion on each talk page to garner consensus for an updated image. I am the biggest Dune fan and can't wait to see the new film, but so far it doesn't seem like the character imagery is that dynamic for most characters. The Baron and Piter De Vries do stand out. The other issue is that the non-free content criteria requires that a free Commons image be used when one is available rather than a non-free (copyrighted) one. In the Villeneuve film, characters like Leto, Jessica, Paul and Chani don't look very different from the actors who play them. For someone like Stellan Skarsgård's Baron though, he is rather distinctive and I think we could argue that he looks different/distinctive enough in character to make the image more valuable. I'll restore that one to the article, but not as the infobox image.— TAnthonyTalk 01:46, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Could you explain? Happy New Year. Victuallers (talk) 08:53, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. Your addition of the citation inside the interlanguage link template broke the link. I would have re-added the citation to an appropriate place, but the url is a splash page with nothing about Catherine Rich or Les Rois maudits. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 16:35, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
OK, I see what you were trying to do, and it looks like reFill stripped down your citation. I've added two more reliable French language citations to the Les Rois maudit list and to Catherine Rich (actress), and put the correct url into your newsmd.com citation in the biographical article. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 16:57, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks a great solution I'm sure. Thanks again for your work. Victuallers (talk) 10:27, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Blue Book cover from 1911

Isn't the cover of Blue Book from August 1911, public domain in the United States, since it was published before 1927? If it's public domain, there shouldn't be any concerns about copyright infringement by using the image on Wikipedia. I say this because you're the last person to have edited the page for that image, and the original uploader had their user page deleted. 192.107.137.243 (talk) 21:23, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Carla Gray

Hello! I am editing anonymously but I used to edit Wikipedia heavily in the 2000s (I was even an admin!). For Black History Month I decided to improve the Carla Gray article, adding quotes and sources and reading/listening to interviews. I'd love to know what you think! (It's been a while so I may not be the best at formatting sources into the wikimarkup.) 173.171.68.179 (talk) 15:50, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

I also noticed the ENTIRE STORYLINE wasn't even mentioned in One Life to Live storylines (1968–1979)! I fixed that! :) 173.171.68.179 (talk) 17:07, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
@173.171.68.179: Hey there, I took a quick look and Carla Gray looks great! Thanks for the research, these topics are so important and I'm so glad Black History Month inspired you. When I have a chance I'll go over it, and try to link more articles to it.— TAnthonyTalk 19:10, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
I added some extra statistics for the article as well, such as:
Carla became the first non-white lead character to be featured in a front-burning, sustained storyline for several years on a soap opera.[6] To that end, One Life to Live became the most-watched daytime soap opera among African Americans,[7] followed closely behind by All My Children, also created by Agnes Nixon, the only other soap opera at the time to focus consistently on providing storylines for black characters.[7] By the 1980s, it was estimated that 12% of all African American households watched soap operas,[13] twice the rate of white households,[13] for which actress Ellen Holly was given partial credit.[13]
and Ellen Holly's primary role on One Life to Live paved the way for more Black actors and actresses to be given prominent storylines on other daytime soaps. In 1968, the year Holly debuted on One Life to Live, only three Black actors were featured in a recurring status or higher on U.S. daytime soap operas;[13] that number would increase to 25 by 1982,[13] with Al Freeman, Jr., who played Carla's husband Ed Hall, becoming the first Black man to win a Daytime Emmy Award in a leading category in 1979.[13]
and also Unfortunately, Holly depicts a backstage story that diverges far from the ideal storyline shown on air. She claims that despite Carla Gray's storylines being major reasons for the series' early success (with One Life to Live having the highest number of non-white viewers),[7] she faced racist attitudes behind the camera. These included being paid less than white actresses on the program[6] ($300 per week in 1968-69, rising to only $325 per week in 1969-70 and $350 per week in 1970-71)[15] and returning from a nephew's funeral only to find that in the elapsed time, her dressing room was given away to a white actress,[6] both examples contributing to Holly's decision to step away from One Life to Live in December 1980.[6] 173.171.68.179 (talk) 13:13, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Also, is there any way we can use the publicity photo from ABC for Carla's marriage to Ed? It is published here. I was reading the non-free content rationales and it seems like it would fit, especially considering the Carla photo is also from an ABC publicity photo (one where she's talking to Ed Hall, I've seen it before). 173.171.68.179 (talk) 15:35, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi again! It's been nearly a month and I've consulted even more interviews and other sources. I think I've filled in most of the gaps behind the scenes...next would ideally be an overhaul of her storyline section, but it's harder to find descriptions of storylines from those days. Doesn't mean I won't try though! Let me know what you think! Ellen Holly was definitely a pistol! (I think the only thing I didn't touch explicitly from the oral history source, but I do mention implicitly, is the Erika Slezak allegation at the 15th anniversary celebration.) 173.171.68.179 (talk) 17:06, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

The edits have vastly improved the article! Thanks so much for tackling it, it’s a relief to have other soap needs tackle this content. FrickFrack 01:23, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Carla Gray Part 2

Hello! I've decided to dust off my old account to improve not just the Carla article but a few other ones now too. I'm sure I'm exasperating you with all these messages but I haven't been bitten by the Wikipedia bug like this in literally like...over a decade, so I'm very excited. Do you know any other editors who are well-versed in OLTL or would be interested in Black-related soap opera article content so I don't feel like I'm hounding you over and over? Because I think I want to tackle the Nancy Grant article next.

I have a low-res screenshot of Carla in color also, which I'm going to upload with the correct tags today. (Hopefully they're correct!) Mike H. talk 15:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Mike Halterman! I totally remember you. Yeah I'm a lot less active here now but I monitor my watchlist. I do want to make time to go over your article but from what I've seen it looks great! I edit very few soap-related articles these days so I'm not sure who can help. FrickFrack created/improved a few "vintage" OLTL character articles (like Sadie Gray, Ed Hall and Jim Craig) in recent years but they're not very active now either. Maybe check the edit history? — TAnthonyTalk 17:23, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi! I’m interested in helping on some articles! I still peruse the website to ensure the articles I put so much time into aren’t completely unrecognizable, lol. Feel free to suggest some article tasks on my talk page or here and I’d be happy to help. FrickFrack 01:25, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Hey there! I finally started working on the Nancy Grant character article in my sandbox. I haven't done the impact and reception section yet, just the storylines, but I managed to piece together her storyline through quite a few different sources and I'm happy with how it reads! Let me know what you think! Mike H. Fierce! 22:22, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

I've gotten all the main text written, now I'm just sourcing! Mike H. Fierce! 16:33, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

AWB problem

Hello, and thanks for your cleanup work with AutoWikiBrowser. However: when you used it for cleanup of the deprecated lay source parameters in references, it merely removed the prefix "lay-" from the parameters, and left the URLs, dates, sources etc. in place. I don't use AWB, so can't comment on whether it's user config or an underlying bug in AWB, but do please take note of the damage done to nearly 150 articles.

Here's an example: [13]. Following AWB cleanup, the Science Daily url [14] and website are left in place, but the reference is actually a journal citation from Cancer.

I was cleaning up the breakage last night, and I'm still at it this morning. Thanks again for your attention to this. Storchy (talk) 09:31, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your message! Yes I programmed that AWB run for a specific task with the lay- parameters in a specific subset of articles, but ended up applying it to a larger group and inadvertently created other errors. So sorry you had to fix, I'll take a look now and see if anything broken is left. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 12:59, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Alias

Hey, did you misspell alias on your latest edit to the infobox? – Meena • 20:19, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Well, shoot. Thanks for catching that!— TAnthonyTalk 20:22, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Another issue I've noticed (well, the reintroduction of an old one) is that it is again placing a "Soap opera character" on "List of soap opera characters (2022)" articles. This is due to the auto short description feature which I got a different editor to fix here when the issue first arose. I assume the coding was changed so would this be able to changed back as lists don't need descs? Thank you! – Meena • 21:00, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

It is inappropriate to list every single guest stars in the guest stars section. Go to Wikia or IMDb if you want to do that. Guest stars section is only notable guest stars such as credited as special guest stars/special appearances as part of the main cast (past or in the present) in another series in the same network, a famous non-actor such as musician or athlete. I am not sure you realized it or not, but all the guest stars are on the opening credits of this TV series. Co-starring actors only ones on the end credits of this TV series. Co-starring actors are not guest stars. Co-starring actors are actors who have super minor roles and are below guest stars. I understand some TV series have both guest stars in the opening credits and end credits, but this is not the case for this TV series. — YoungForever(talk) 19:11, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your message, and I definitely appreciate your ongoing contributions to TV articles, I've seen you around! That said, you do realize that you're defining who is an acceptable guest based on arbitrary criteria? The reason MOS:TVCAST has rules like "cast presented in credits order" is to avoid the POV debates over which character is more "important" than another, etc. The credits are the blueprint. I'm familiar with our conventions of defining guest stars/co-stars or whatever but that level of classification is not actually spelled out anywhere. And though these roles may not be huge in any given episode, they have a prominent credit and we can't just dismiss them as not notable because we "know better" that they're lesser players. Plus at this point, the cast list is not so large that it disrupts the article. I'm willing to remove the guest section for now as a message of good faith, but it seems to me that any of these characters who appear a second time should make the cut in future edits. Thanks!— TAnthonyTalk 19:38, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
It becomes a problem when some editors decided to list every single guest stars in the guest stars section which is considered to be WP:FANCRUFT and WP:INDISCRIMINATE. — YoungForever(talk) 19:53, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
MOS:TVCAST says what it says: Remember to follow the notability guidelines when creating a cast list: not every fictional character ever created deserves to be listed. That's very broad. Listing credited cast is not necessarily "WP:FANCRUFT and WP:INDISCRIMINATE", this should be subject to a case-by-case determination as needed. You're relying on imaginary guidelines. And about this: you're making up rules. If a character credited as a co-star (for example, Melissa Chambers as Mawbel) appears in six episodes in the series, where is it written that she cannot/should not be listed as a recurring cast member? Our conventional definition of who is recurring is just that, a convention we collectively follow and not a rule or guideline.— TAnthonyTalk 20:37, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
I am not making up rules. I have been told many veteran editors that there is a general consensus and common practice on MOS:TV and WP:TV that we do not include co-starring actors because their roles are minor. Of course, there are special cases where a co-starring actor is relevant to the plot. It is absolutely not notable if co-starring actor appears in 6 episodes with only 1-2 lines each of the 6 episodes and is irrelevant to the plot. If a co-starring actor appears every episode, but hardly speak or get any spotlight to do anything notable, then they are just pretty much extras. — YoungForever(talk) 21:35, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
I don't mean to come at you personally, BTW. I know there are a lot of references to general consensus and common practice in our TV discussions, but it's really a grey area until specific guidelines are established by consensus, or we can refer to a specific discussion that set some kind of precedent by consensus. We all police TV articles to maintain some consistency, but I bristle at made-up criteria like "It is absolutely not notable if co-starring actor appears in 6 episodes with only 1-2 lines each of the 6 episodes and is irrelevant to the plot." I know we've been conditioned to cling to common practice, but we shouldn't apply arbitrary rules like that across the board just because certain assertive editors support them, veteran or not. But this is a larger discussion.— TAnthonyTalk 21:50, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Plus, you and I don't get to decide if a character is "relevant to the plot". It may seem like common sense, but at its core that's interpretation, unless there's a reliable source. In this case, front-of-show credits lend legitimacy to these performers/roles, and there don't seem to be valid criteria to necessarily delist them.— TAnthonyTalk 21:55, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Listing every single guest stars is WP:FANCRUFT and WP:INDISCRIMINATE though according to many veteran editors. As I said, there are no guest stars on the end credits for this TV series, all the guest stars are listed in the opening credits. At this point, you are listing every single guest star. Do you not realize the list gets longer as new guest stars are added every episode? A co-starring actor appears in 6 episodes with only 1-2 lines each of the 6 episodes and their character is not even mention on episode summaries at all nor reliable sources of episode reviews by professional critics is not a notable cast member. — YoungForever(talk) 22:11, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Do you know how many new guests will appear in this season's upcoming episodes? Is it written somewhere at what length a list becomes unmanageable? No, it's all a subjective decision we make as we go. And after one episode you can't make any judgment on who will or will not be named in a review or prove to meet your criteria of notability. And again, can you point to an actual discussion that establishes for the community by consensus that there is a detailed hierarchy to non-main cast members as explained in your comments? I honestly get your point completely, and know what excessive cast listings are, but this whole fixation on who is guest cast and who is co-star and who is relevant and who has enough lines is completely invented and not based on any real and useful need in articles. And by the way, co-star character Mawbel is mentioned in at least two reliable sources, Boston Herald (she's the only image of the series used) and Newsweek.— TAnthonyTalk 23:14, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
FYI, Newsweek is a questionable source post-2013, please see WP:NEWSWEEK which states post-2013 Newsweek articles are not generally reliable. — YoungForever(talk) 23:39, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
And hey, I want to say again that even though we're both passionate about this, my argument is not with you but with some of the trends I've mentioned in the TV community at large.— TAnthonyTalk 23:23, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Yet, you keep insisting on listing every single guest stars ignoring MOS:TVCAST. — YoungForever(talk) 00:09, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

How am I ignoring MOS:TVCAST? It does not specify how many are acceptable, or even any criteria. An editor deciding who makes the list based solely on how important he/she thinks they are is not a thing.— TAnthonyTalk 00:27, 11 January 2023 (UTC) And it says not every fictional character ever created which is a lot broader than "every single guest cast member on a particular TV series." I'm not saying notability isn't a factor, but I'm arguing that prominent credits may bestow a degree of notability. And I'm not saying every guest cast member should be listed in this situation just because they have a credit, but they also should not be precluded based on subjective and POV editor assessments based on how many lines they have or how the editor interprets their importance. Or just by the simple fact that they are credited a certain way.— TAnthonyTalk 00:35, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

Your comments seemed to imply that guest starring is the same thing as co-starring even though they are two different levels of crediting. — YoungForever(talk) 00:42, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
No, I understand the "difference" as you describe it. My Mawbel example was just to show that even someone credited as a co-star might get mentioned in media, you can't just discount them because you've deemed co-stars as glorified extras.— TAnthonyTalk 00:55, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
Is a co-starring actor who has no lines at all, but appears in every single episode and credited as "nurse" a notable character? Most likely not. I am not completely opposing a guest stars section for this TV series, I am just opposing to listing every single guest stars on the guest stars section for this TV series. Guest stars section on TV series main articles are not for listing every single guest stars anyway, guest sections are for "notable guest stars". — YoungForever(talk) 00:58, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
I watched the second episode on AMC+ on Friday and can confirmed that the entire guest starring cast is only in the opening credits. There are four new guest stars for the second episode as well. — YoungForever(talk) 21:01, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes I noticed that too! Thanks. — TAnthonyTalk 00:50, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
