Opera (web browser)[edit]

I reverted your edit to Opera (web browser). I'm all for a section about editions of Opera for miscellaneous devices, but it needs to be well-sourced because this is a featured article. First it is "Opera for devices", "miscellaneous" has never been used by Opera. And no, the Archos devices, and Nokia internet tablets, like the Wii are built similar to the mobile variant but not completely. Falcon 9[edit]

Hi TMV943. I just reverted your good faith edit to the Falcon 9 article. The numbers in that claim may be sourced on some SpaceX webpage today, but then we should add an updated citation, and not refer to the 2010 citation that referenced the v1.0 (or Block 1) Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Hi TMV943. I agree with your removal of the MCT engine and unnamed SHL launch vehicle from the Falcon (rocket family) page and putting it on the SpaceX main page. I have started a discussion section on it, summarizing the matter, and inviting other editors to weigh in if they want. I suspect there will be a number of moves and re-factoring of Wikipedia articles before SpaceX eventually names the beast and all the articles are smooth in covering this important SpaceX development project. Falcon (rocket family)[edit]

Hi TMV943. I happened to see your recent minor change to Falcon (rocket family) pop up on my watchlist. Your comment was just a minor change of text in a hidden comment, so this is no biggie.

Nevertheless, just wanted to note that I think there is a scope item that you may not be thinking of when you made your comment. The article SpaceX reusable rocket launching system is not merely about the Falcon 9R. Rather, it is about an entire range of technology development efforts that SpaceX is undertaking in order to get their reusable launch vehicles working. Once those technologies (or, that set of technologies) are in place, SpaceX intends to use it on the Falcon 9 and the Falcon Heavy (which is sourced) and ostensibly on the new-but-details-yet-to-be-announced LARGE launch vehicle technology development program that will use liquid methane-fueled rocket engine technologies. (this latter item may include some variation on the Raptor (rocket engine), but to date, we only have sources that say Raptor will be used on a second stage).

So while I saw Musk's tweets about F9R and "F-niner"—and I think I made several edits with that info—we definitely ought not to be renaming SpaceX reusable rocket launching system to "F9R" or some variation. F9R will utilize the SpaceX reusable rocket launching system technology, but it does not comprise the entire set of what that technology is all about.

I sort of see what you're saying, but I think at this point the overlap between what the Falcon 9-R is and the technology behind it are too close together to be separate articles. Maybe in the future when they use the system on multiple vehicles it will make more sense. At the end of the day SpaceX controls what is what and maybe you've also felt they've been rather vague on new developments, but I don't think it's up to us to separate the entities and discuss unannounced future launchers TMV943 (talk) 22:54, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On the "future" launchers (the BIG methane rocket, heavier than Falcon Heavy), I agree. I'm not suggesting we put anything in Wikipedia without sources.

But on the SpaceX reusable rocket launching technology generally, it's quite clear that:

the technology is for more than one launch vehicle. Both Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy have been explicitly intended for using the reusable tech from the beginning. Lots of sources, etc. So it's not merely a Falcon 9 thing.
the technology itself is quite WP:Notable, by any standard. It's notable even if SpaceX is unsuccessful and they never get it all working, in practice. However, if it is successful, it is the multiple technologies that made it possible (software, control algorithms, throttleable large rocket engines, extensible landing gear, atmospheric reentry with large thin aluminum cans, etc.) and the entrepreneurial risk taking that was present in the audacious plan to try to do it, all come together and SpaceX pulls it off, THAT is what will be remembered. The names of the specific rockets on which the tech was first used (F9 and FH) won't be the historically important main event.

Thus, we have articles on the two existing launch vehicles— Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy—and we have an article on the also notable and verifiable SpaceX reusable rocket launching system, intended for multiple flavors of launch vehicles. Each article has a different focus, and a different scope. Whenever there is sufficient verifiable info on the big methane rocket, then that launch vehicle will no doubt get an article, and it too will be related to, but not subsumed by, the SpaceX reusable rocket launching system. The Falcon Heavy is just a version of Falcon 9. Although made fancier with the cross-feeding, it's no different than Delta IV Heavy being a version of the Delta IV. So in that sense, the reusable system is the same. I'd be more in favor of an article about the Falcon 9 first stage, there we can talk about the difference between v1.0 and v1.1, the tests done with grasshopper, and how it will be modified with legs for reusability.
