Disputed fair use rationale for File:Donner.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Donner.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. I thought it would be worthwhile to drop you a note here regarding this article. Once again, I've corrected the template being used to link the ticker symbol to the TMX's price look-up page for this company.

It's important to use the correct template. One of the functions that is coded into these templates is that they will automatically include the article in the category associated with the template. For example, {{Template:Tsxv}} will include the article in Category:Companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, which is the correct category for this company. However, using the {{Template:Tsx}} means that the article will get included in Category:Companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange — since this category is intended for companies listed on the main board, it is not correct.

I hope that you find this explanation more useful than a blind revert. Happy editing! Mlaffs (talk) 20:20, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help and the explanation! First off, I've forwarded the email I received from the company - allowing me to use their logo for the page - to the appropriate address.
I really appreciate your help with the TSXV template, but for some reason when the TSXV template is used, the company's name appears after the ticker link. For example, it ends up looking something like this: "(TSX Venture: DONDonner Metals Ltd.)". I would be very grateful of your continued assitance! TOBound (talk) 16:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image permission problem with Image:Xstrata Aerial View.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Xstrata Aerial View.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:24, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've noticed that before when I've fixed similar situations. I'm not sure what's causing that and, although I have created one template in the past, I did so by borrowing code from something similar and playing with it until I got it to work properly. I'm by no means even an intermediate coder, let alone an expert. I didn't create either of these ticker symbol templates, but they ought to be pretty similar to each other — if I get the chance tonight, I'll compare the code for both against each other and see if I can figure out where the Tsxv is going wrong. Done and done. Just an extra piece of code that needed to be dug out — looks like it's working fine now! Mlaffs (talk) 22:29, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Files missing description details[edit]

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.
