A new FL contest

Wikipedia's epic FL directors Matthewedwards and Scorpion0422 have decided to try another FL contest as a follow up to the one held last June. I'm impressed + Category:History of music

I've just recently noticed your work on the timelines of American music. These really look well researched and nicely put together. Good stuff.

Last night I started an overhaul of Category:Music history. I kind of jumped in and got a bit ahead myself. I realize now that I probably should have run a few ideas by you first before launching in with both barrels blazing. This note is a belated heads up. ( I gather from your history that you are one of Wikipedia's primary editors on the subject of music in general, is that right? I've also noticed User:Hyacinth is also heavily in music. Is there anyone else I should be aware of?)

My basic goal is to try to link the whole topic together a little tighter so that a reader can navigate through the entire subject. The subject lends itself to a nice tidy category hierarchy (for example, by year, by region and by genre). Eventually, I'd like see more of the top level articles (starting with History of music) organized into a WP:Summary style hierarchy that reaches down to most of the articles on the topic. That's the idea, anyway.

Anyway, I hope my edits haven't been so WP:BOLD that they are annoying or disorienting. I've only touched the category hierarchy. Thanks for your patience. ---- CharlesGillingham (talk) 19:09, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Data Crystal

Me and my mate were wondering if there is any way of taking over (becoming a bureaucrat) on this wiki: Data crystal , we are asking you because it has been inactive for a long time, and we were hoping to try and take over to help fix it up. Re-evaluation of bureaucrat status

Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal, which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat. The discussion centres around whether bureaucrat status should be considered a 'lifetime' appointment like administrators, or whether bureaucrats should be subject to periodic reconfirmation in a manner more like the stewards. There is also consideration for a separate re-evaluation of the status of those bureaucrats who were promoted in the early days of wikipedia, when the standards at RfB were significantly lower than they are currently, and whether such users still retain the explicit trust of the community.

As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:

• Do you consider yourself to still be a wikipedia bureaucrat in spirit, or is the flag essentially just a legacy? Do you have any intention of ever returning to being an 'active' bureaucrat?
• What do you consider your position to be in terms of your 'mandate' from the community, in comparison to more recently-promoted bureaucrats?
• Would you be amenable to surrendering the bureaucrat flag, or participating in a reconfirmation RfB, if asked to do so? In what circumstances would you consider such an action?
