paniq on vfd[edit]

Hi Tuf-Kat. I am a proponent of the article for paniq which is listed for deletion. I believe that it does meet the inclusion requirements based upon the link you provided. There are very few notable musicians within the demoscene and paniq is one of them (which is why he made off with so many distinguished awards in 2004). Would you please review my edits to the article and reconsider your vote? With thanks... -R

Proposed Medical marijuana article split[edit]

This article is overweight and needs to be split in 2, otherwise it cannot be freely edited. I propose splitting it into Medical marijuan (history) and medical marijuana (research). I really want to read here what other people want. I propose to split the article next sunday. Thought you would be interested. See Talk: Medical marijuana.--Squiquifox 19:48, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Indian music[edit]

Thanks! You do a lot of great work on Wikipedia, and you're compliment reminds me of that. Like most editors active on the music articles, you're also pleasant to work with.

Nettl is great, I recommend his Blackfoot Musical Thought (1989), though I'm from and in MT, so that adds interest), though you can read the super condensed version on Blackfoot music. His 1956 Music in Primitive Culture is really dated as a whole, but I think in detail contains the most up to date info in 1956 (see Primitive music). He also only gave the music areas of "primitive" North America as an example (leaving out the whole world, thankfully). Hyacinth 05:29, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hopefully it won't get to this, but I think I might need a moderator to lock this article. I'm having a problem with an editor who keeps trying to add an overwhelmingly POV "criticism" of the film (it's not even a proper concensus of negative reviews of the film, many of which I have read; it's why [S]HE doesn't like it). The section is notated in the talk, and I explained the POV can be removed. --b. Touch 21:09, 25 Feb 2005 (UTC)

potential spam blacklist problem[edit]

I just tried adding a birth category to Claudia Beni and was prevented from doing so due to the presence of a link to www.claudiabeni-fansite.6x.to, which as far as I can tell from just glancing at it looks like an appropriate external link for this article. So I picked your name at random from the meta admin list I was presented with and am giving a heads-up rather than just removing the external link. Bryan 07:55, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Regarding the reason .6x.to was added to the spam blacklist, see [1]. Let's hope the bot isn't still out there. -- Curps 06:25, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Versos mojado[edit]

Hi TUF-KAT. The ogg had been listed on WP:CP for over a week. According to Marc (Raul654), it's still under copyright - the Library of Congress only hosts it - and the terms of redistribution do not allow commercial reproduction, so it's not compatible with the GFDL. I'm sorry; it was a really nice clip. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 04:39, Mar 5, 2005 (UTC)

Calcutta -> Kolkata name change[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you voted in the Wikipedia:Naming policy poll to keep the Wikipedia policy of naming an article with the most familiar English name. You may not be aware that another attempt has begun to rename the Calcutta article to Kolkata, which is blatantly not the most common name of the city, whether it's official or not. If you want to vote on the issue you can do so at Talk:Calcutta. Cheers. -- Necrothesp 13:44, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Music of Uruguay[edit]

Good job expanding [Music of Uruguay]]. I have made some edits. I took out the reference to llamadas because llamadas is not a rhythm; it is an event that takes place at the inaugural parade during Carnival. It means "the calls" and occurs when the candombe drummers parade and "call" people to Carnival. Also, are you sure about that GRAMMY? I could not find a reference to a group called "Opa" in the GRAMMY Winners Search at www.grammy.com. Nascimento has won a GRAMMY, in 1997, but did Fattoruso play on it, and was it Latin jazz? Good evening. I am trying to sort out the decision on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Alessandro Cortini. It appears to be a pretty clear "delete" decision. When I went to clean out the "what links here", however, I found the list at Nine Inch Nails#Members. I'm not particularly familiar with the artists or the specific circumstances. Could you please take a look at them and see if the others in the list need discussion (even if only for consistency)? Thanks. Rossami (talk) 05:44, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Constant vandalism[edit]

I have an issue with a user at a dymaic IP adress (among the IP adresses they log in from are 68.82.69.25 and 68.82.68.65) who constantly adds unneccessary disambig links to the top of Walt Disney and The Walt Disney Company. This same person added a list of Disney animated features to the Walt Disney article, even though we already HAVE that list at List of Disney animated features. It's not a problem (yet), but should this person continue to constantly edit the article, what can be done? --b. Touch 04:22, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Goldie And The Gingerbreads[edit]

Good morning.
I am far from being an experienced Wikipedia author. PSE explain what makes Goldie & The Gingerbreads preferable to Goldie And The Gingerbreads.

TIA --Psycho Chicken 23:14, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your response, but.
This is a band's name and it is printed a few dozen times in publications of all sorts, and it appeared this way on
the posters, announcing the concert events of the 1960s. I deem a title or name with a & different
from that with an And.
That would mean a different name for a different band. Conventions and rules are alright, but exceptions,
differences and nuances are the most important things in our lives. PSE consider.--Psycho Chicken 07:49, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Up as a featured article candidate. I saw that, a few years ago, you stubbed Sly Stone, but not the band. That sort of took me for a bit when I first got here (I was like "no Sly & the Family Stone article!?! *cries*"), but I guess when you're stubbing hundreds of articles, you try to cut down on the work load. Makes sense.

Now Sly and his Family both have articles (I bought a book on the band, the only one in existence, and used that as a primary along with website references), and hopefully the Family Stone article can get featured. --FuriousFreddy 04:07, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

major wikibooks problem[edit]

There's an edit war on the front page.

Also, many back versions that look pretty decent have, down the page a bit, the vandalism.

You should just make me an admin. :-)

song articles[edit]

How notable does a song need to be before it's notable enough to warrant an article? How much information about the song needs to be known? I recently listed an Alkaline Trio song's article, Private Eye (song) (the only song of theirs with an article) for VfD. I personally know that this song isn't any more noteworthy than any of their other songs, and it's not even one of the best known. Will you take a look at the article and the VfD listing, and give an opinion? Thanks. BTW, how you doin, man? Lachatdelarue (talk) 14:34, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Someone moved Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (movie). The page needs to be moved back where it was; the article for the fairy tale should be at Snow White, where it already is. Blues page revert[edit]

I reverted the Blues page to restore a previous version which had been vandalized by blanking a section. However in the interim you removed a couple categories (evidently not noticing the vandalism). So your edits got dumped when I reverted the page. I would have restored yours, except I don't understand why you removed them, either. So if you want to redo them, could you please explain why on the talk page?

2nd question is, why haven't you fixed the ambig links on your own userpage? (I fixed the one for Abbey Road (album)). --Blainster 17:42, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you![edit]

Thank you for supporting my nomination on RfA, it failed because of Wikipedia's minority rule system, although I thought 21/8 support was sufficient. It was also cut short by 12 hours. New Age music[edit]

On the discussion page of Wikiproject: Music genres, you have suggested that new age music should get its own color and genrebox. I think that someone should work on this, but I don't know much about new age music.

Also, New Age music is currently listed as a subgenre of ambient (itself being a subgenre of electronic music). Should New Age get its own color, or should it use the silver color that ambient and all other electronic genres use? Andros 1337 02:57, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed this category. There was a category:"Trinidadian music" which I put up for CfD and renamed Category:Music of Trinidad and Tobago. That category has Category:Soca and Category:Steelpan music, while Category:Trinidadian styles of music has Category:Chutney music and Category:Calypso. Should these two categories co-exist (and essentially duplicate each other) or should these styles of music, born in Trinidad, not fall into the "Music of Trinidad and Tobago" category? Hello...[edit]

My name is Erin, Danny told me you are very involved with audio work here in the wiki. He suggested we get in-touch for some of the cultural attache work we have begun. HOWEVER... I just heard an interview with Shawn Ewald of the A-Infos Radio Project. I think you can find an example here http://www.radio4all.net/ He wants to open source his entire work, several YEARS worth of continuous audio. He was talking about both mirroring space, as well as collaborative efforts to expand the project. I sent a short note to their "contact" link... but maybe you could hunt down a direct email and talk with him. It sounds like a real gold mine if music, interviews, speeches and other airwave free content. Again, he said he has years worth of unique, continuous audio. Good luck. Egyptian mythology[edit]

If you are TokerBoy, whose User space redirects to yours, then here is a response to a question you raised 2 and a bit years ago

Its actually increadibly easy to understand - I have tried to re-write it to make this clear. There were initially 3 different religions - one with Ra as the chief god, one with Ptah as the head, and one with Atum. What happened was that the groups influenced each other over time, politics having a HUGE say (indeed changing Set from hero into villain, merely because the Hyksos quite liked him),

the changes were as follows

  • Atum + Ra (1) -> Atum-Ra -> Ra (2)
  • Ra (2) + Horus (1) -> Ra-Herakty = Horus (2)
Horus (1) was the son of Geb and Nuit, and named Horus the Elder
Ra-Herakty means Ra, who is Horus-of-the-two-horizons
Horus (2) was born from the primal mound (since Ra (1) and Ra (2) were)

meanwhile

  • Ptah + Seker -> Ptah-Seker
  • Ptah-Seker + Osiris (1) -> Ptah-Seker-Osiris -> Osiris (2)

and

  • various cow-goddesses + Hathor (1) ->Hathor (2)
  • Hathor (2) + Isis (1) -> Isis (2)

and

  • Set(1) + Apep + various other evil gods+demons -> Set (2)
Set (1) was a hero, Set (2) was a villain

then (for political reasons)

  • Horus (2) -> Harpocrates = Horus (3)
Harpocrates meaning Horus the child
Horus (3) is the son of Osiris (2) and Isis (2)

finally

  • Horus (3) + Osiris(2) -> Horus/Osiris (4)
Horus/Osiris (4) was only just happening at the end of egyptian mythology, so they still maintained some seperate identity.

N.b. some people allege that the final stage was

  • Horus/Osiris (4) -> Jesus/God-the-Father
  • Isis (2)-> Mary (Meri is egyptian for Beloved, one of the titles of Isis)
  • Set (2) ->Satan

Country music[edit]

Hi Tuf Kat

Can you please have a look at the edit dispute in the Country music article. I do not like being involved in edit wars but the opinions expressed by ScapegoatVandal are so totally at odds with my understanding of the basis of Roots Music in the US that I have reverted him twice. Your advice would be appreciated. Tiles 08:26, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

New Category for WP:FA[edit]

I have a question: I wish to create a category of FA's called "Awards and Decorations." I know there are some decorations stuck under the military and war section (Medal of Honor), chivilary (Order of the Bath) and culture and society (Hero of Belarus). I wish to do this, since it will be easier to categorize these three articles, along with various others, into one section, instead of trying to find out where it should go. edit war at Batman[edit]

There's a problem with both an anonymouse user and CaptainCrash (who knows, they might be the same person) repeateely removing the information in the article that discusses the interpretation fo Batman and Robin as homosexuals (infornmation present in the article for months beforehand, about issues which led to the development of the Comics Code Authority, a different tone for Batman comics, female spin-off characters like Bat-Girl, etc. There's been an (unusually convoluted) discussion on the talk page, and even though one thing is being said on the talk page, the reverts still continue. What we are agreeing upon now is to have the page locked temporarily, so that we can resolve the issue once and for all. --FuriousFreddy 17:42, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Inclusion not Deletion[edit]

(AIW) can you take a look at Wikipedia "apartheid"? There is a movement to delete a two-word inclusion that is fact and true. It's gotten to the point that everyone is focused on the disputing editors and not the edit itself.

" Deletionists are disputing the following statement: "South Africa was settled initially by the Dutch, Germans and French from the 17th century onwards. English, other European settlers, and Diaspora Jews followed in the 19th century." This statement is true, and it therefore should not be deleted.69.217.125.53 15:10, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, you recently created Category:American musical performers, I see that you are working with Wikipedia:WikiProject World music, and figured it may have had something to do with one of those templates. We have a current category structure that may better fit some of these templates. Please visit the current CFD on this category, so we may further understand the reasoning, as this may help both our categorisation and your project. Thank you. Various Cuban styles of music sub-categories[edit]

I have nominated a number of the sub-categories you have created under Category:Cuban styles of music for deletion, based on the fact that they where either empty or contained only one or two articles, and the articles they did contain where about the music style the category was named after and wold better fit the parent category anyway (IMHO). This is not my area of expertise however, so if there where some overall plan or other good reason you want the categories to be kept you can find the votes here: Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 July 23. --Sherool 01:06, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you redlinked to Los Zodiacs when you created Peruvian rock, so I'm letting you know that the article is now on Vfd. Kappa 09:58, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TUF-KAT, I asked some questions about the part you wrote in that article, maybe you want to reply at Talk:Joan Baez. Thanks in advance, --Flominator 14:00, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey TUF-KAT, I haven't forgotten about the project. I've been working (extensively) on the articles listed. So far, I've improved Boyz II Men, Jodeci, The Jackson 5 and James Brown to decent standards, other editors have fixed up The Isley Brothers, Janet Jackson, marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, and the Marvelettes as well. Most of these articles just need one or two additions to them (most typically pictures, samples, refeences, and a full discography). The others should come along with time.

My focus right now is splitting apart and wikifying the new List of number 1 R&B hits (USA) at List of number 1 R&B hits (USA)/temp. Can you, or anybody else you know, help out at all? --FuriousFreddy 14:45, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oops[edit]

Well, I appear to have blocked myself instead of User:MotherfuckingSHIT. How embarassing! Are there any admins watching recent changes right now? If so, please unblock me. Tuf-Kat 03:57, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

Oh, apparently I can unblock myself. Nevermind! Tuf-Kat 03:59, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
I only saw you unblocking, not blocking yourself. :-) But fear not, mfSHIT is good and blocked. FreplySpang (talk) 04:00, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

Bureaucratship[edit]

I'm letting you know that I've just nominated myself for bureaucratship for the second time. If you didn't care to know about this, I apologize for the inconvenience. Andre (talk) 02:40, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard[edit]

Mark, I have created a new project page at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard, and Secretondon suggested that I tell my fellow bureaucrats about it. It's designed as a forum where users with bureaucrat rights can discuss difficult situations, either beforehand (for advice about what to do) or after taking action (for review and feedback). It's similar to another page I created, which is starting to catch on (e.g., Jimbo used it this month): Wikipedia:account suspensions, which is not for 3RR or simple vandalism but for close calls and disputed blocks.

Please take a look at these new project pages and give some feedback. Good idea? Bad? Needs improvement? --Uncle Ed 12:05, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

Can you do me a favor and watch this page? I have a problem with a user User:OmegaWikipedia who's been going around and spreading Mariah Carey/Jennifer Lopez fancruft across the Wikipedia, and he unloaded a bunch of it in this article, which I reverted. He has a bad tendency to revert pages the way that he wants them, reguardless of whether his edits are correct and factual or not. I just want to make sure that, after putting up an IDRIVE request and finally getting the R&B page fixed up, that it stays factual and accurate. Thanks. --FuriousFreddy 14:46, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

TUF-KAT, I know you and Freddy are pals, so I might be wasting my time here, but no, I don't revert pages to the way I "want" them (Freddy, on the other hand just did and I have had a history of dealing with his behavior in this fashion). I think Freddy has some issues with the way some articles are handled here, because the articles he wants expansion on don't have many volunteers. He's misplacing his anger particuarly at me often at times, and he's trying to act like he owns the R&B page now. I don't think my edits were inaccurate, and if he felt they were, he should have pointed it out, and said something to indicate what the problem was, instead of just deleting wholesale. OmegaWikipedia 18:07, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OmegaWIkipedia has, on several occasions, reverted edits by Mel Etitis and anyone else who attempted to do any sort of cleanups or edits to "his" Mariah Carey articles. Such can be proven in the history for . I never do any reverts of anything that is factual and helpful to an article. I do not own the R&B page, but for as long as I am working on it, it will be made accurate. --FuriousFreddy 23:58, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
TUF-KAT, Freddy once again is ranting and twisting things to make me seem like the enemy. My reverts with Mel Etitis have nothing to do with cleanup, and mostly about how to write numbers. Freddy on the other hand, I've noted does have a history which can be proven (even on the R&B talk page) of ranting irrrationally making it hard for anyone to edit an article in which he's involved on.

TUF-KAT, do me a favor. Can you revert the page to before any edits were made today, by me or anyone else, and lock it please? We will attempt to straighten this out in a diplomatic fashion. --FuriousFreddy 23:58, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The big problem is with the supposed "subgenres" of R&B that identify the work of only one or two artists, and with the (very very incorrect) "current" and "extinct" designation. If you can, remove the "Reggae influenced R&B" or whatever it says section, integrate it into the text for the current form of R&B, and remove the section on "hip-pop" (which is a made-up identification; hip-pop is pop rap (and pop rap is another article in serious need of attention). I'd make all of these changes myself, but I think I'd be violating the 3RR rule. I don't have a problem with OmegaWikipedia editing the article, but I do have a problem with him adding incorrect information or original research to it. --FuriousFreddy 01:41, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be seriously flattered if you thought if I came up with the term hip-pop, but no, I didn't. Did you not see the talk page? And how many artists do you want in those subgenres? God, when I added more artists, you whined. When I add a few, you whine. Some people can't be satisfiedOmegaWikipedia 01:58, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I don't have time to do this and you might be the right person to ask. I've noticed when Avant is listed as a producer (especially for Madonna and Britney singles), he's linked to the R&B producer Avant. I'm pretty sure that this is a different person from the Avant who is half of Bloodshy and Avant. So yeah, Ideally that would become fixed :-) --Camipco 21:08, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect, thanks. The disam addition I didn't think of, but that because I'm a noob. --Camipco 21:07, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

R&B[edit]

Not a problem. I don't want ot break the 3RR, so I'll just post any suggestions I have on the talk page. --FuriousFreddy 02:19, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your reply, TUF-KAT. I'll go look at the talk page right now. Can something be done about the status of the page to prevent it from being locked? It seems that since you refused Freddy is going around and asking admins to lock it. I feel there may be an unfair lock as one of the admins that Freddy asked is a user that is currently in a debate over numbers with me. Freddy knows that and it seems like he is using it to his advantage to help increase his chances of getting it locked. OmegaWikipedia 03:44, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

One last thing re:R&B[edit]

I changed a reference to "urban contemporary" to "contemporary R&B"> Is it okay if I take the darned Black Eyed Peas out of the "urban pop" section (they are rappers, save for the new girl), and replace them with someone who fits the decription (possibly The Pussycat Dolls?) --FuriousFreddy 19:36, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucratship[edit]

Hi, TUF-KAT. Thank you so much for your support and kind words on my bureaucratship nomination. Unfortunately, it didn't pass, but I intend to run again soon. If you'd like to be informed next time around, please let me know on my talk page. Thanks again! Andre (talk) 05:22, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Hi TUF-KAT:
Thanks for support and your confidence in me in my recent RFB nomination. I'm now WP's newest bureaucrat, joining your ranks. :) Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:11, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

Nigeria, Hungary[edit]

Hi, nice to meet you, and I've seen you quite a bit too. It's a small wikipedia, no? I'm addicted to it. I'll check those articles out. No ideas about photos; usually I write to the photographer if I want to use a photo, and they usually say it's fine. I'm not sure if you want photos of trad. or pop things, but in the case of Afro-pop maybe a European or North American promoter or record company would have publicity photos that they'd share, with the incentive that it will promote their artist. Abellio[edit]

Hi, its going a long way back but you were the original author for the first few revisions of Abellio, such as this one. I'm wanting to improve that article and Iam looking for whatever sources you may have used. I have tracked down the actual inscriptions, none of them conflates with Apollo - what is our source for that in particular? I know its dredging back a long way, but it would help if you can tell me. --Nantonos 21:46, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proper Nouns[edit]

Regarding your edits to my changes to the Folk Music Groups

Proper Nouns can include groups of people. Titles can also be capitalized. As such i would appreciate it if you would go back and revise your revisions.

P.S. as a quick reference ... http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000045.htm

postscript[edit]

Having read the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines I thought that Folk Music Groups could be classed as a title (or a proper noun). Having read the category primer about capitalization again ... you're right.

Music of Nigeria pics[edit]

Hi, TUF-KAT. Tony1 asked me if I knew of any possible sources of images for the Music of Nigeria article. My response is on my talk page. Check it out and let me know if you need any help. BrianSmithson 18:25, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking users?[edit]

I was going to leave the {{test}} message on User talk:212.219.250.3 - creating an article for an obscure-but-genuinely-notable person like Mojzesz Presburger which is prima facie plausible, but after a few seconds' thought is revealed as utter nonsense, is a very subtle form of vandalism - only to find that the page creator has already been warned repeatedly, including {{test4}}. Time for a block? DS 14:21, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How we got the blues?[edit]

Hey T.K. Still waiting for any further comments on my thoughts on the origins of the term "the blues". Would appreciate your thoughts. Fergananim 17:32, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

uploading sound files?[edit]

Tuf-kat, I wonder whether you can direct me to a page on Wikipedia that will tell me how to upload sound files, and before that to translate them into ogg files? Tony 12:09, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've found the relevant pages, but no tutorial on formatting as there is for images. I wonder whether you'd mind having a look at my insertion the top of Johann Sebastian Bach; is the copyright thing OK in the text box? Would it be better to go for copyright, as I see elsewhere on sound files? Tony 14:53, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to some talk pages template[edit]

Hi Tuk-Kat. I just wanted to let you know I changed some music-related talk page template: Template:Omnimusica, Template:Omnimusica-can, Template:Genre, and Template:WikiProject:World music. They now conform to the talk page standard (and they look a lot nicer now too!). The only one where I changed the content was on Template:WikiProject:World music, which contained a list of things-to-do related to the project. The list itself was rather obtrusive, to the point where (I noticed) it had previously been complained about on Template talk:WikiProject:World music. I felt this was an inappropriate for a talk page template (seeing as how it is mirrored on dozens and dozens of unrelated talk pages), so I removed it. →Raul654 05:54, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I added a section to this article about early recorded music. I saw this was peer-review so I thought I would notify you of this. I will try to read the entire article over tomorrow and tell you what I think of it. Rt66lt 03:55, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
