Zimbabwe

Just thought I will contact you seeing you efforts trying to keep the AFZ site current. That is my home country.

I do strongly suspect too that Zimbabwe will be buying the FC-1. The $300m arms deal with China has not been fully explained. Interesting enough, China denied Zimbabwe had ordered any planes and then a few months later Zimbabwe had K-8s. The twelve K-8s will cost under $60m – I know the 2nd batch of 6 was for $4.6m each. Then it is said Zimbabwe also got 100 vehicles, said to be the DF Motors version of the HMVEE. That cannot explain the $240m! I do believe the Zimbabwean have placed a advance order of the FC-1.

Yes don't worry , some Vandals trying to remove information just like that , anyways , please do the following:

(1) , edit the article , make each section for each type of info (Current and future aircraft) is bad discribtion , but Current AirCrafts) section and (Future AirCraft) section is a good one.

(2) , start searching for websources , add each source to it owns aircraft or deal .

(3) , use the discussion page often before adding or removing any information

Zimbabwean Sako TRGs

I saw your addition of Zimbabwe to the list of Sako TRG rifle operators and put it in alphabetical order. The reference states Zimbabwe bought "light weapons and accessories therefore - sniper rifles and accessories" worth FIM 142.000 (€ 23.883) in 1999 from Finland. Can you provide a better reference that Zimbabwe bought Sako TRG rifles, since "sniper rifles and accessories" can also stand for other rifles and components exported by Finland? If so, did Zimbabwe buy TRG-21/22 or TRG-41/42 rifles and how many? Regarding the price of fully kitted out TRG sniper weapon systems (2007 prices range around € 4.000 - € 6.000) Sako will not have sold many TRG rifles to Zimbabwe.

Thanks for your reply. I mean “sniper rifle accessories” as stated in the EU source on what was exported in 1999 to Zimbabwe leaves room for questions and speculations. Accessories can mean stocks, bipods for sniper rifles, etc. Finnish companies/brandnames like Valmet and Tikka also produced precision shooting orientated rifles around 1999 that could be classified as sniper rifles, since there is no official exact definition on what rifles are (military or police) sniper rifles and what rifles are not. Sako for instance markets the TRG series as a “sharpshooting system”. TRG rifles are actually quite often used in civilian full bore target shooting events that have nothing to do with tactical shooting events, pseudo sniping or official service usage. I realize it must be hard to get concrete information on the internet on the service use of a probably small batch of Finnish made rifles in Zimbabwe.

Namibia Air Force

Hello! My name is Muhammad Bilal Khan, I am from Pakistan and I am an avid fan of air force related topics. My special interest is in exotic African air forces. I noticed that you created the page of Namibia Air Force. So I had some questions about NAF and thought you might help.

• There are some conflicting claims about the number of K-8s in service with NAF. Some sources state 4, some 6, some 12. Which figure is correct?
• NAF is claimed to have suffered three losses of aircraft/helicopter assets during its deployment in Congo. One on 26 December 1998 another on 2 January 1999 and last probably a helicopter on 5 January 1999. Do you have any additional information on these crashes? Which aircrafts were lost?

Yes I do try to keep Southern Africa's military pages current but infor is very difficult to come by. Concerning the Namibian AF, I don't know any more than you do. Most sources say 4 and Janes suspect up to 12. 3 can be seen on Google Earth at Groofontein (-19.595033°, 18.125204°).

I don't know of any of their helicopter losses. I might have heard of one, but don't remember clearly.

KLJ-7

Hi Tempest, just want to ask you if you have any info on the poster you added as a reference to the KLJ-7 radar article? The senior editors usually delete such "photobucket" references because under wikipedia's policy they don't count. If I can add more details about the reference, such as when it was published and where it was displayed, they may accept it as a good reference and let it stay. If you just add any details you have to the KLJ-7 article or add them here and I'll put them in the article, I would appreciate it. Also, if you could take a look at the JF-17 article (which I'm still working on) and give your suggestions, criticisms, etc, I would appreciate that also. Hi Hj108. I don't have much besides the blog I referenced. Seems he postes it last month, so I am assuming he got it from a very rescent exhibition. I went onto the CETC website and they don't give any details on the specific radars.
