What the editor meant by "The celebrity version" in the edit summary is The UK celebrity articles where editors still break each contestant out by header instead of listing them in a table then making a HouseGuest page if necessary. For some reason the editors that usually edit BBUK articles never did really like that whole table for the Housemates and it caused a lot of issues when the someone was working to make Big Brother 10 (UK) a good article. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 03:04, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

@Alucard 16: I think I should still revert? The UK series is not the U.S. series and so far we've been treating this like a U.S. series and I think we should continue unless consensus is found otherwise. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:08, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.

Instead of shouting in your edit summaries and issuing warnings, please just calm down, read the talk page, and have an open mind. This is not personal or a battle to "win." We both want the same thing; to improve the article and have a layout that's totally consistent with all previous seasons. In the layout you prefer, a huge inconistency is created. Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

Guideline and policy news

  • Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
  • Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
  • The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
  • The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

  • A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

Guideline and policy news

  • The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
  • A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

Technical news

  • AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
  • When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
  • The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
  • There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Edit summaries for The Resident

Hi, there! I just finished watching episode two and was getting ready to write the summary, and you beat me to it! :-) I noticed that you expanded on episode one, but I was under the impression that we needed to keep them to less than 200 words (per what a user stated on the article's talk page). Your edits were all things I wanted to include, but it takes it to 250 words. How strict is this 200-word guideline? I feel that we have to be so limited in our summaries (and therefore, might need to omit important details), but I also feel someone would revert everything simply based on the fact that it exceeds the maximum word suggestion. Thoughts? — Miss Sarita 03:55, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

@Miss Sarita: Hi sorry for the late response. My apologies on the extended episode description. I checked the word count against the summary in a google docs document and believed I had it down under 200 words but must've forgotten to add/remove some words in the back and forth. Considering the word count is part of MOS:TVPLOT specifically the MOS (manual of style) part I'm going to say it's pretty strict. A few words may not be an issue but I'm gonna assume 250 is too far. Of course the descriptions could always be expanded in the future in the case that an episode article (which are allowed 400 words per plot) is created in the future (although that would take quite a bit of work to prove notability and such). TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:04, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Oh, don't worry about it. I see that you're in school (good heavens, I remember those days), so I wasn't even expecting a response until at least this weekend. And no worries about the edit summary length. I thought you added very important information, but unfortunately, it looks like we'll be quite constrained during this process. :-( At least now we know for sure what the guidelines are. I'll keep trucking through everything and of course, feel free to edit whatever I come up with. :-) — Miss Sarita 15:08, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: My last day of school should be Thursday and I should have a lot more time to edit following that. And yeah I agree sometimes I wish the edit summary's could be a bit longer however there are people that would abuse that power and would type every single thing that happened in the episode. I'll also continue watching episodes and writing summaries as I have time. TheDoctorWho (talk) 17:08, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: Just for kicks I'm gonna see if I can find enough information to throw together an article for the pilot episode. I've started at User:TheDoctorWho/sandbox2. I have a bit of experience on writing episode articles. My best example is probably at Ka Makuahine A Me Ke Keikikane (Hawaii Five-0) TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:13, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Big Brother RM

Before it gets any votes, can I suggest taking this one series at a time? I feel like you're going to get major objections solely for trying to take them all at once. My concern is that for some series "Big Brother #" is the common name for the season, and a different series it might be more casually called "Big Brother season #) - so I think we have to handle this on a per-series basis. If I'm dead wrong, then don't let me stop you. -- Netoholic @ 05:45, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

@Netoholic: Looks like I missed that window. To be honest I didn't even think about that right and with so many series you're probably right. If the result comes out to not moved I may try again by individual series. However, at this point it seems like both sides are about even both with good arguments. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:10, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Edit summaries for The Resident

I apologize for slacking. I had a busy Memorial Day weekend, but will get back to it this week. Just FYI. :-) — Miss Sarita 18:06, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

@Miss Sarita: It's fine there's no rush we have plenty of time. Also I don't know if it will help you at all but it's recently been helping me quite a bit. AlexTheWhovian has a pretty good user script that checks plot length automatically. It can be added to your common.js and adds it to a section titled "TV Tools" on the left side of any page right underneath the tools section. When clicked it checks all the plot lengths in an episode table or plot section and tells you how many words each one is. If one is too large it copies a warning template to your clipboard that can optionally be added. TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:40, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Really making some headway on this today. Yay! Also, I noticed that you are adding some linking to the summaries, which is great! But I just wanted to give you a gentle reminder about MOS:OVERLINK. I don't believe that terms like "schoolteacher" and "hunting" should need to be linked as I think most readers know what those mean and reading the corresponding articles won't help the reader further understand the context of the summary. Thoughts? — Miss Sarita 02:24, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Technical news

  • IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in June. This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team will build granular types of blocks in 2018 (e.g. a block from uploading or editing specific pages, categories, or namespaces, as opposed to a full-site block). Feedback on the concept may be left at the talk page.
  • There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups.
  • It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked.

Arbitration

  • A recent technical issue with the Arbitration Committee's spam filter inadvertently caused all messages sent to the committee through Wikipedia (i.e. Special:EmailUser/Arbitration Committee) to be discarded. Your sandbox

Hi there! First of all, good job on the citation hunt for the rest of the article! I'm just here because I'm not sure how much help you wanted with the rest of the article, if any at all. Please feel free to boot me from your sandbox once the episode summaries are completed. I won't be offended in the least. :-) If you would like assistance, just let me know "what" and "where". That way I don't feel like I'm stepping on toes. (In the end, you're probably way more experienced with television-related articles than I am, so just keep that in mind if you guide me to where you would like help.) Also, I'll leave it up to you as to when you want to move material from your sandbox to the "live" article. I'll just let you know when certain parts are 100% completed. Happy editing! — Miss Sarita 16:17, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Feel free to edit wherever you see fit if you want, no reason to leave just because the episode summaries are finished. Television articles usually aren't too in depth after just one season (wait until you've got a show going on nine seasons and there's a list of characters, list of episodes, and 8 season articles to go along with it. Or one of my favorite shows that's been around since 1963 I haven't even made it around to half of the articles related to that show) so it's pretty easy earlier on especially since we have a manual of style just for television. As I said when we first started this project feel free to copy over any other sections that you think need edited. I may see if I'm able to expand the lead a bit it's awfully small for the amount of sources we have around. Other than that let me know if you have any other ideas. TheDoctorWho (talk) 18:04, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
Pinging @Miss Sarita: to above response. TheDoctorWho (talk) 19:20, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
You are on fire! I'm really liking what you've written so far. (And no! I didn't know this was originally a Showtime series. That is rather interesting...) Hawaii Five-0 is a series I watched up until the beginning of season six, I believe...so I know a little about that show if you ever need help. Doctor Who is something I've always wanted to get around to watching, but as you already know, that's a frickin' full-time commitment! I can't imagine what it's like trying to organize all of the articles associated with it. I'll try to get all the episode summaries for The Resident cleaned up by the end of the weekend and then I'll pop in and see if there's anything you haven't taken care of yet. :-) — Miss Sarita 22:44, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: I'll try and finish up the casting and filming sections tonight which hopefully shouldn't take too long. And it's really interesting to me that that it began as a showtime series and that their original description of the series is partly different from what it is now. Hawaii Five-0 is a great show (however it hasn't been the same without Kono and Chin). Doctor Who isn't too bad especially if you start at the revival (in 2005) its when you throw in the original series and 5 television spin-off's. And as I've said before there's no rush we've really made some progress over the last week! TheDoctorWho (talk) 22:57, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
I think you'd be good at writing a premise section for the article. I attempted and failed horribly (just can't seem to get the wording right). TheDoctorWho (talk) 23:42, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
I dunno...you're asking long-winded Miss Sarita to write the premise...? :-) I will do my best! I'll post it in your sandbox, and then maybe we can bounce ideas off of it once we get a foundation. — Miss Sarita 23:50, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita:Yeah of course! I think we've done just as good working off each others base work as we've done alone and I may be able to do better on it once there is a start. TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
Alright I've gone ahead and expanded the production section quite a bit. It could probably use a little work here and there but for the most part I think it's finished. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:46, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: Just a little statistic for you: The current article for The Resident in the main space has 36 references. The one in my sandbox has 67. So if you base the size of the article off of the references we have over doubled the size of the article. TheDoctorWho (talk) 19:53, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
Dude. I leave you alone for one day. One day...and you have damn near the entire article finished! LOL! Good job! But I don't know what all this "we" talk is about. I can't take any credit for the massive expansion you've undertaken and finding all the sources! I guess I should start pulling my weight... :-) I'll work on finishing up those edit summaries and then see where else I can contribute. — Miss Sarita 03:41, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: Ah the article wouldn't be near as close to done if you hadn't typed up all those edit summaries, I only wrote 3 of the 14. The first few sources took quite a bit of work but after you know what you're looking for the rest come easier. Once I had them all it didn't take much to write up the sections. Anyways I personally think we're really close to finishing it shouldn't take much longer. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:57, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Well, you're doing an amazing job. I noticed that we may be editing within close time proximity to each other, so I'll work on removing all the "chatter" from the edit summaries offline so we don't impede our individual paths. Hopefully, I can get started on the premise and have it finished up by the end of this weekend. — Miss Sarita 04:00, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

@Miss Sarita: I'm done [for now]. I only made a few minor fixes. If I notice anything else I can take note and do it later so you're free to edit online if you wish. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:05, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
Duly noted. Also—not that it bothers me but more for your convenience—you no longer need to "ping" me as I now have your talk page on my Watchlist. :-) — Miss Sarita 04:11, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
Sorry. I kinda figured after so much conversation. Generally conversation on my talk page only requires 1-2 responses and so I usually find it better to play it safe. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:18, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
I have completed the revision of the episode summaries. After painfully hitting the "Delete" key many times, I was able to get them all to a reasonable and relatively consistent word count (included in all of my edit summaries), so they are ready for you to review and/or revise if you wish to. My brain is officially fried and I swear, I'm gonna be seeing these words in my sleep! I hope you had a pleasant night and I'll look at the rest of the article tomorrow. — Miss Sarita 06:12, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
P.S. Notice how I used the phrase "edit summaries" as opposed to "episode summaries" this entire evening? I would simply ask myself, "Is it Friday yet?"...but it's been Friday all day, so I have zero excuses. *sigh* — Miss Sarita 06:19, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
I think all the summaries look very good, you did a very good job on them! Other than the premise we're just about ready to move it into the main space. TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:01, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes! I will work on the premise tonight (my apologies...real life got in the way today). And thank you for educating me on the "half season"/"full season" terminology. I think the way you explained it makes perfect sense. — Miss Sarita 00:28, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
No worries. And no problem at one time the average television season had as many as 30 episodes but over the years the number has gone down even more drastically recently. Even if it does start in September it's not unlikely for a freshman show to have a shortened amount of episodes so the network can test out the ratings (ex. The Good Doctor). But it's even more likely for mid-season replacement's to have a short season. Of course there are even shows that the network saves to be strictly mid-season replacements each year. TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:46, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
I love learning something new every day! The Good Doctor is another series I started watching simultaneously with The Resident, and I have yet to see the rest of it. I am used to watching established medical dramas (such as Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and ER) that have the full 20-something episode season, so I was unaware that I only have 18 episodes of The Good Doctor to watch before I have to wait for season 2! :-) Also, I wanted to pick your brain regarding the first sentence of the "Casting" subsection. It says something about "Solomon Bell". Should we mention the name of the role being changed to "Randolph Bell" and why? Just curious as to whether this tiny detail is even important for a television series article. — Miss Sarita 04:03, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

The Good Doctor is a great show I’ve finished the entire first season. I’ve also watched about half the first season of Private Practice. If you’re ever looking for some new content to watch let me suggest Station 19 the newest spin-off of Grey’s and also the Chicago (franchise) both are great! As for you’re question I think that would be good to mention I’ll make sure to add the name change in although I’m not sure any sources said why?? TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:39, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

I had to force myself to finish Private Practice (I think I'm more into the hospital and emergency/trauma-type medical dramas than the ones focused on private clinics), but it was still a very entertaining and touching series. I have watched quite a few sporadic episodes from each series in the Chicago franchise, but haven't been able to find a streaming service that has all seasons/episodes in one place. Can't wait to really get into it as I'm a loyal fan of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and they've done a few great crossover episodes with Chicago P.D. I'm always on the lookout for shows like this, so thank you for the Station 19 recommendation! Regarding the name change, you're right. A Google search turned up nothing, so perhaps we should leave it as is...? Leave the readers to put two and two together...? — Miss Sarita 06:18, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Yeah as far as I know no streaming service has the full series I was forced to order DVD's for CF and CPD however I've watched CM and CJ from the start as those didn't start until after I was into the franchise. I've watched all of the crossover episodes that SVU has done with the Chicago Franchise plus about the first 3 episodes of season 1. I believe the entire first season of Station 19 is on Hulu (also a mid-season replacement so not many episodes in the first season). For the name change I can look for a source at some point tommorow. TheDoctorWho (talk) 06:42, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Know what I have an idea for a source on the name change. Also I made two minor edits to the premise. Did you want to do anything else on the article before I move to the main space? TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:43, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
Alright added with a source in this revision. Thank goodness for Template:Cite episode I suppose it's sort of a loop hole but it is valid because the source in the previous sentence validates Solomon Bell and the episode will validate Randolph Bell. So anyways I don't believe I'm gonna make anymore edits to it in my sandbox. I'm ready to move into the main space and will once you okay it. :) TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:00, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
You're a genius! That was a great idea! And thank you for editing the premise. Those few, small edits make it look so much cleaner. I think it's ready to be moved! The lead needs to be edited and expanded, and I want to work on adding brief descriptions to the main characters, but that can all be worked on once it's moved to the article. — Miss Sarita 01:57, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
Done with this edit! A whopping grand total of 25,835 bytes added to the page!!!! TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:10, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
Woo hoo! Wonderful work! It's been so awesome collaborating with you! Let's work again in the future. :-) — Miss Sarita 02:57, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
It's been a pleasure working with you too! And of course anytime, there's many articles out there that could use work! TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:38, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Hawaii Five-0 (2010 TV series, season 8) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of AmericanAir88 -- AmericanAir88 (talk) 00:21, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

RonBot (talk) 17:12, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
