Free anti-virus software

I have no personal experience with AV freeware, but PCWorld rated AntiVir the highest in Jan. 2006. See also PCWorld reviews. Good luck. Clarityfiend 06:08, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

on, Template:Yorkregionsecondaryschools, you put a tag that it is not up to date, which part? I'll remove it right now, as that seams crazy to me, but put it back if it wasn't a mistake. (and write on the discussion tab why, because I'm perplexed) Epson291 09:12, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Your cool page.

I don't know where to put questions but how do you make a cool page like yours. What I mean is the directory that you made, that makes your page look like a website, I want to know how to make it. It is really cool and I want to arrange it for my page.--Jakerl 01:09, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Hamilton Roads Template

Hi Nick, 5-more Hamilton streets for you to add to the template:

Lower City Arteries (Primary Roads):

Lower City Collectors (Secondary):

Thanks.  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  posted at 20:13, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Alright, Rick. I am starting to place it in the template now, and thanks again for putting the roads in alphabetical order. Also, I made some more road templates for more cities, including Template:Roads in Mississauga for City of Mississauga. Do you want to check it out and see what else you can add and/or fix to it?  Smcafirst | Chit-Chat | SIGN  posted at 19:39, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Invitation to a WikiProject!

Sure, I'll join. I'm baffled by the 'Golden Horseshoe' part though - it's the official name of the area but I don't hear it except on the weather channel. If you google golden horseshoe roads the WikiProject is the second hit, so it's not exactly a common distinction. I realize this doesn't matter as long as collaboration is productive, but there's a related problem I've found with WikiProjects in that they're too scattered - the parent Projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads and Wikipedia:WikiProject Ontario Highways are inactive, but interested editors have to go through their pages to see that and then become disappointed and not join, or join and never come back. I think there should be only one parent WikiProject, say Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads, and then have branches of this into Southern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe, Toronto, etc, however specific you like. When you plan to expand the Project to include more than just roads about this area, consider upmerging/superseding Wikipedia:WikiProject Ontario, and then focus on the a specific branch of it about the Golden Horseshoe. Again, this isn't urgent at all or very important or so take it with a grain of salt - I tend to elaborate on irrelevant ideas so that's your luck wanting me on the Project. I'll add my name to the participants table if you don't mind. –Pomte 01:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Virus Whacking

If you have an idea of where to look for the virus, or want to run antivirus software, try this. As soon as the computer is turned on to where you can see anything on the moniter, press F8. This will bring up a menu of startup options. Select "Safe Mode" and press enter. You should be able to access your programs. Try running your antivirus software. If it doesn't work, you should be able to recover some of your files onto an optical disc, floppy, or thumb drive. (Just be sure the virus doesn't stow away with your files.)J.delanoy 00:05, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

If you don't have an anti-virus program (baaaad idea), there are free ones available. I have no idea which ones are best though. Clarityfiend 01:42, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I find AVG to be good freeware. I also run four independent free anti-spyware/anti-malware programs, but that's a different story… − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 01:55, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Use a free online anti-virus scanner of course. [1] Splintercellguy 01:56, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
You have other answers here. —Steve Summit (talk) 02:31, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
If you want to you can re-install windows, it will get rid of the virus and as long as you DON'T reformat the hard drive you can get your files back by going into C:\Documents and Settings\Your_old_username_goes_here there you can acsses your old desktop and your old My Docs. It's hard thing to do but it'll get ride of the virus(if it is a virus, sound a bit like spyware or a recource hog to me) good luck --Lwarf 01:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Take back what I said before, I have a better idea. Start up you're PC in Safe Mode (hold down F8 when booting up) then log in as administrator you should then be ablre to go into My Computer and get at your My Docs, if you Have file on the desktop you want take a look for them here : C:\Documents and Settings\Your_user_name_goes_here\Desktop . Once you've found all your files copy them onto a thumb drive. Now you can safly re-install windows (this time DO reformat the harddrive). --Lwarf 09:51, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok here is how to re-istall windows and reformate the harddrive. Before doing any of this make sure you have gotten all the file you want to keep off the PC and onto a thumb drive

  1. Set your PC's BIOS to boot from CD to do this
  1. When booting up press delete until something come up saying something like this “Entering Setup” (Note: You may have to press F2 to get into BIOS, but most PC's use delete or both so try delete first)
  2. Once in BIOS look for a menu saying something like “boot setup”, move the cursor over the menu (using the arrow keys) and press enter
  3. Once inside there look for something like “Boot device priority” and select it
  4. There now should be a list of options looking somthing like this:
1st boot device [Hard Drive]
2nd boot device [CD-ROM]
3rd boot device [Floppy]
  1. Now you need to change it so it looks like this:
1st boot device [CD-ROM]
2nd boot device [Floppy]
3rd boot device [Hard Drive]
To do this select the first boot device, a menu like this should come up:
Hard drive
CD-ROM
Floppy
Chose CD-ROM, repeate this for next next two devices (chose floppy then Hardrive)
  1. Insert the windows xp install disk in your CD-ROM
  2. When booting up look out for something saying "press any key to boot form disc", when this comes up press any key
  3. Wait for setup to boot up, once setup has booted up press enter, there should be as short pause as setup sorts some details out.
  4. You should now see a license agreement in front of you, press F8 to agree
  5. The computer should now be asking you if you want to repair your windows installation, say no by pressing esc (trust me it repaired windows work fine at first but in the long run it's bad)
  6. You should now be facing the partitioning screen select the c drive and press D
  7. Another screen will come up press enter, then another screen will come up this time press L
  8. Now you will have lots of unpartitioned space, press C to create a partition
  9. A screen will come up asking you how much space you want in that partition the default amount will be fine so just press enter
  10. Select the newly partitioned drive and press enter, another screen will come up asking you what type of file system you want chose NFTS
  11. It's clear sailing form here, the rest of the setup is straight forward and you should be able to doit on your own, good luck --Lwarf 11:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

This page and its cross-namespace redirect York Region Road Construction Project are redundant and subsumed by WP:GHR. I suggest speedy deleting them using {{db-author}}, or moving them to a subpage of WP:GHR if they are still useful. –Pomte 21:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

fun & stuff

On my user page, I have some inconsistent things on there. (grammatical error, oh well). I have guess quotes/riddles/and jokes. Very inconsistent... They change from time to time, after I get comments on them/riddle is solved and when I get to it. I mention this because I think that it might be entertaining, and because I saw your name under the DoF list of users. So it is your choice if it is put their... or something.... Orphaned fair use image (Image:Marriage_With_A_Fool_4.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Marriage_With_A_Fool_4.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. AfD nomination of Springwater Marketplace

An editor has nominated Springwater Marketplace, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Springwater Marketplace and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Re: The Qxz Ads

Hi Gurch,

I am just wondering... Could I add an advertisement about my WikiProject to the ad template? You can design one for me, if you approve my request. My Wikiproject is linked via the shortcut WP:GHR.

Signature

If you have not already done so, please fix your signature. Some of the style attributes are broken. In two places you will find the string p1pxadding:;, which should be padding:1px;. Once you've done that, see if you can work on making your signature a little shorter and less annoying. I personally recommend having either no custom signature at all, or a link to your talk page. Thanks – Gurch 15:42, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
