Hi. Just some feedback .. I know that you recently granted this editor rollback, but judging by the problem I'm encountering with him as discussed here, I'm not sure - unless he alters his approach, in which I withdraw my objection as it seems he's improving his deletion approach - its helpful to the project for him to have tools. Thanks. --2603:7000:2143:8500:34F3:46D5:FCE9:6825 (talk) 11:10, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) with a (Non-administrator comment): Firstly, QStQ didn't use any "tools", just Wikipedia's inbuilt WP:TWINKLE for their reverts. Secondly, if you can't see that He is noted for his talent, athleticism, agility, speed, intelligence, focus, tenacity, work ethic, preparation, and technique. He's also noted for being collected, calm, and composed, and his ability to read the players and the game in front of him is about as WP:POV and promotional as it gets, then, well. ——Serial 16:14, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I see your point as to tools - I thought Twinkle was a tool. But my point as to reverts still stands.
Firstly, he deleted, for example, that the fellow won a Hockey East player of the month award, and his 0.75 goals against average in a junior world championship, and his setting university records for shutout streak to start a career, and shutouts in a season, all properly supported by refs.
Also, promotional relates to things like an editor POV of "is an awesome player," uncited. But not "is noted for his fouling off two strike pitches and his defense on ground balls hit to his left side" - with proper supporting refs.
In short -- our NPOV policy means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic. That's exactly what the language you refer to does. It does "not" mean deleting such views. It refers to the point of view of the editor. Not the point of view of the RS ref. It is entirely proper to answer the implicit question - "we know that this fellow has performed especially well - what attributes do RSs point to to explain why he has had success?"
Also, the lack of proper edit summaries, in deletions, is not appropriate. And that, coupled with the decision not to discuss contested deletions, bears I tend to think on one being a proper editor to have the rollback tool.--2603:7000:2143:8500:34F3:46D5:FCE9:6825 (talk) 19:33, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
I've invited the editor to comment here -- TNT (talk • she/her) 19:57, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
I appreciate the invite, but still agree with my prior assessment, and the statements of others that this was a promotional edit attempt. My best advice, I guess, would be that the anon retry their edits in a manner that is less promotional, and to avoid the use of non-RS. I appreciate their interest in advancing a page I built first as a tiny stub though! But ... would decline their invitation to discuss the finer nuances of Wikipedia policy - always good to see some deep thoughts though, no matter the result. Thanks for the ping! Question from Dirsaka (00:57, 30 December 2021)

I had a substantial criticism of the logic in the Wikipedia article "Original proof of Godel's completeness theorem". I didn't know whether the error was in the original proof, or was accidentally created by the Wikipedia article's author when paraphrasing the original proof using modern terminology, which was the point of the article, and didn't know how to correct the article so as to make its "proof" correct, so I just inserted a signed parenthetical note into the article after the error indicating why I thought it was wrong. Was this suitable, and should I do anything else, such as try to contact the Wikipedia article's original author? --Dirsaka (talk) 00:57, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} Hello, TNT,

A hint from an admin who works mainly with expiring drafts these days, if you restore an expired draft, a page deleted due to being a CSD G13, you have to make an edit to the page after you restore it or it immediately shows up as eligible for deletion again (see Category:G13 eligible AfC submissions).

There is even a script admins who work at WP:REFUND use, User:SD0001/RFUD-helper, that, after a stale draft is restore, makes the edit to the page so you don't have to remember to do it. This additional edit only pertains to G13s because they are the only deletion category that is based on how long it is has been since the last human edit to the page.

Hope you are having a pleasant holiday season and a great New Year's Eve & Day! Liz Read! Talk! 06:48, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Strange editor came to my talk page

Hello (I know this may or may not be appropriate to even bring this up to either you, Ferret, or even Tamzin or GeneralNotability), but I have noticed this strange editor asking me to file an investigation against MariaJaydHicky, which I said no to that. One thing that I did find odd was their demand to "have me file said investigation case" on this editor. What should I do for next time someone forces me to file an SPI, even after I was told to just refrain from filing them for a while (maybe even 6 months to a year if I have to)? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 02:02, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

@DarkMatterMan4500: You're more than welcome to ask me I'd normally recommend advising the editor (I saw Maria in this case) to file the SPI on their own - you definitely shouldn't feel forced to touch SPI. I did a quick check of Deejeeta and its certainly  Possible leaning  Likely that they are indeed MariaJaydHicky, but I'll leave it to Tamzin, Spicy or another clerk to review the behavioural evidence and file a SPI -- TNT (talk • she/her) 02:13, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, but I do think there's something suspicious about I saw Maria too. But perhaps maybe the potential editor might likely be someone else as well? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 02:24, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Autopatrolled

Hi. You may wish to review the work once more of Haunted Spy. I have rewritten yet another one of their machine translations from German. For a non-bilingual, correctly translating German to English can be a challenge at the best of times, while machine translations are often completely wrong and often state the opposite. I stumble on their articles by coincidence, but while I am a stickler for good prose and accuracy and bilingual English-German, I do not see it as my mission on Wikipedia to go around cleaning up such work. If I come across any more I shall simply 'unreview' them, move them to draft and let AfC and/or NPP take care of them. I am no longer an admin so there is little I can do about it myself. Rollback Request

Hi TNT, I am looking for rollback rights, I would like to the right firstly to revert when people put aklhsdofahsd or something similar in the edit summary. And also to help me revert vandalism faster using RedWarn in Rollback mode and SWViewer for a quick bit of anti-vandalism and/or using Huggle for extended periods of reverting. When Fastily denied me initially under a month ago I waited around 2 - 3 weeks and then reapplied, I was denied that request, however since then I have been active reverting vandalism practically every day racking up around 300 - 400 edits in that time, I have an Anti Vandalism barnstar from Blaze Wolf, and I generally warn all vandals except when I assume good faith, I report many many vandals to AIV, sometimes 4 - 5 a day. I patrol recent changes and I only really revert vandalism. I have almost 1000 edits, around half of which are reverting vandalism. I am happy to have the right on a trial basis. I generally will try to use undo and add a summary unless of course it is blatant vandalism. If you deny this I understand, Thank you for taking your time to consider my request, Zippy (talk) 19:03, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Near end of Rollback trial

Hello TNT!

I am nearing the end of my trial now. Please let me know if you consider my editing to be worthy of retaining the rollback permission after this one month trial period that I am just about done with now (ends Jan. 26th, 2022). Thank you very much for your time and attention to this thus far. Th78blue (talk) 01:15, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

I believe the trial period is now officially over, and I have had my Rollback permission expire. Would love it if you would take a look at my edits and consider granting rollback for me permanently if you feel I am worthy. Th78blue (talk) 14:00, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

What is going on

Today there was a lot of vandalism that added the text "WHAT IS UP UP UP!? ADOPT ME RULES! (And Roblox)", and it was done from a diverge IP range. How was that possible? So many IPv4 and IP v6 ranges. Can anyone own so many ip ranges? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 05:58, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

@Itcouldbepossible: There are unfortunately many ways to do this, but thankfully we have other ways of stopping disruption than just blocking the IPs 🙂 -- TNT (talk • she/her) 06:55, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Yes, but who owns so many IP ranges? Are they IT professionals? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 06:56, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Or is there any easy way of changing IP ranges every minute. I thought we cannot change IP ranges, until and unless we change the whole ISP itself. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 06:59, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Re Your Email Reply

About my edits to SpaceX Starship, yeah, those were all me. I got a request to copyedit the edit, and I accepted it (in memory of Twofingered Typist). There was a lot to fix grammar-wise, so I used edit summaries to talk ramble just for funsies, since I would be making a lot of edits. I used the first edit summary to specify I was grammar copyediting, but to the users who tuned in later to my banter, the summaries gave the wrong message. Some people enjoyed them (note my talk), but to avoid future confusion I'll use a simple "c/e" from now on. Panini!🥪 14:08, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

TheresNoTime to waste...

Hi TheresNoTime. Given your recent decline on YouTube Shorts, do you have any idea what is going on here? To me, it looks like someone edited someone else's user space, logged a move entry but somehow kept the page at the same title, took out multiple revision in the history before the userspace owner submitted a draft, moved the page, declined their own submission, then reverted the move. I'm very confused as to what is going on here.

Also, given that you have now suppressed IRC notifications I sent you an email. Please reply to it if you are not busy. Naleksuh (talk) 05:09, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) From what I can tell, it appears that AssumeGoodWraith initially created Draft:VHS (game) in userspace and then submitted it to AfC and Rusalkii moved it to draftspace as the preferred location for drafts. This move created a redirect from User:AssumeGoodWraith/1 to Draft:VHS (game). AGW then blanked and reused that same subpage to create a draft on YouTube Shorts, moved it to draftspace, then declined it themselves and moved it back to userspace for some reason. eviolite (talk) 05:17, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
"for some reason"? So basically just "I don't know either"? Naleksuh (talk) 18:19, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
You'd probably have to ask AssumeGoodWraith for their own thought process. eviolite (talk) 18:52, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Well, it wasn't really a thought process, it was just some edit history, but sure. Naleksuh (talk) 19:29, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Hey! Mind checking out these contribs for me? The user has made so many edits than I can't tell what is and isn't vandalism. I mean, the user reverted themself, therefore removing that mess. So I have no clue if it was just them testing how the template would work or something else. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:31, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

IPv4 range

Hello! So I"m curious how I view the range of an IPv4 address. I know with IPv6 addresses it's usually fine to just zero out the last 4 instances of 4 characters and then add /64. However this doesn't appear to work the same way with IPv4 addresses. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:20, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

@Blaze Wolf: heya, if you've got "Allow /16, /24 and /27 – /32 CIDR ranges on Special:Contributions forms" enabled in your preferences, you should be able to visit any IPv4 contributions page and append the CIDR to it. For example, Special:Contributions/47.225.222.202/24—you don't need to specify a range from the first IP (i.e. 47.225.222.0/24 is the same range of IPv4s as 47.225.222.202/24). This is a great resource for learning a little more about IP subnets etc -- TNT (talk • she/her) 18:27, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
I"m fairly sure I have that enabled, however I haven't been able to figure out how to use it. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:29, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
Nor have I. Doug Weller talk 08:40, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
Also, mind taking a look at something for me? A user is adding info that is completely unsourced to an article that would otherwise be blank (article is currently proposed for deletion per WP:TOOSOON) and they have had many of their articles either deleted or moved to draftspace. They've been warned for edit warring and also given a final warning (probably not appropriate but that was what RW autoselected) for unsourced additions, however since they've been around for 5 months I"m hesitant to report them to AIV. this is the user's contribs ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:45, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Similar joke

Hey! While looking at the growth experiments log (which is mainly just people claiming their alts), I noticed that we both used the same joke when claiming a related account. I honestly found that rather humorous that we both had the same idea when claiming the related account as our mentee. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:22, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

Request for UV tag

Hi TheresNoTime, Could you please create a tag for Ultraviolet, modelled on the existing RedWarn tag? (so with the tag name Ultraviolet, tag appearance [[WP:UV|UV]] and as description {{tag description|Edits made by the [[WP:UV|Ultraviolet]] tool.}}.
Thanks in advance, -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 20:21, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Edit suppression

You made an edit on User:LooneyTraceYT but it was suppressed. Why? Mvcg66b3r (talk) 00:55, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

@Mvcg66b3r: because I suppressed it? 🙂 -- TNT (talk • she/her) 01:02, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Mvcg66b3r, to be blunt - if you have to ask why something was suppressed, you probably don't need to know. GeneralNotability (talk) 01:47, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Can I have a copy of this deleted page?

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} Hi, is there any chance I can have a copy of User:Raquelmetal, as I am currently finding out about the user as they are making a draft in return for undisclosed payment and as I recall, the page said who they worked for which would much help me open a deletion discussion for said draft, Thanks, Zippybonzo (talk) 19:11, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Zippybonzo, the entire content of that page was "I am Raquel, Matthew Medney's Chief of Staff and am creating a Wikipedia page for him.". Hope that helps -- TNT (talk • she/her) 17:58, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I knew it was something along those lines, that clarified it all for me. Zippybonzo (talk) 18:52, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Ted Kaczynski

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} Hi, and thanks for your help at Ted Kaczynski. However, I noticed that the protection you put in is significantly shorter than the previous protection which expired only a short time ago. The page has been the target of a notorious LTA. Would you please take a look at the page's protection history and consider making the semi-protection longer? Thanks. O'Malleyian (talk) 23:32, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

@O'Malleyian: Hey—I was pointed towards the article as needing urgent attention off-wiki, so very much just clicked through the defaults 🙂 it seems that pending changes has been enabled now for a decent length of time. That will likely be sufficient -- TNT (talk • she/her) 23:34, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
Blocked the sock. If anyone ever sees any request like this, it's a sock of the person who was vandalising the article. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:40, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

@Naleksuh: Fairly sure I asked you to email the oversight team and not me directly. As I've explained, I am not going to unilaterally overturn the restriction of your talk page access on Meta—I have attempted to listen to your side of things and give you advice, but ultimately you find yourself in this situation because of your own actions. I am now formally asking you to stop contacting me via email, IRC, or any of my talk pages on Wikimedia. Do not contact me again. Regards -- TNT (talk • she/her) 00:19, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

IPBE extension

Hello @TheresNoTime and nice to get in contact again! It's now almost 1 month ago that I joined Wikipedia and thus my IPBE is about to expire. To avoid interruption in the usage of my account I would like to invite you to reassess and extend my IPBE. Or at least triggering one via you. MathiNotmannIsGoat

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} On the basis of a single edit, for which no warning had been given, and was rather innocuous by the standards of vandalism, you blocked indefinitely as a VOA. Wow.

Yes, I know, there was also a username reason given for this at AIV. However, I'm not entirely sure that that sort of "overzealous fan" username is as blockable as more clearly promotionally intended usernames. Certainly not based on a single edit (and a single filter-blocked edit that was substantially similar) that hardly seems like what someone paid to promote a person or entity would make. Daniel Case (talk) 21:21, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

Addendum: To be fair to you, given your functionary status, was there something I'm missing? Daniel Case (talk) 21:23, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
@Daniel Case: Nope, no private data (would normally mark a block as a CU/OS block if that were the case)—it was a case of a bad block, which I have reduced to 24 hours. Thank you for holding me accountable -- TNT (talk • she/her) 21:29, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, that's better. At the time you made the block I was pondering whether to make it a username block or just warn. Daniel Case (talk) 21:30, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
