Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. January 2023[edit]

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Pollachi, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you would like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Pollachi, you may be blocked from editing. Adakiko (talk) 08:21, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History of Pollachi isn't connected with Pollachi sexual assault case. Why is it put up in that column defaming the place ?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theriyala (talkcontribs) 08:24, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The incident happened in Pollachi and is notable enough for its own article. Perhaps you should speak to the extortion & rape gang about why they defamed Pollachi? Adakiko (talk) 08:30, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bold, revert, discuss[edit]

Hi! One of the basic principles of Wikipedia is WP:BRD. You've made a bold edit, another editor disagrees and reverts it, and now it's up to you to start a discussion on the talk page and get consensus before trying to reinstate your edit. – Uanfala (talk) 15:23, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Though there was a debate which was the oldest lanagugefor the past couple of years, it is now concluded Tamil is the oldest living language and there are talks for a tamil chair at Harvard University considering its antiquity. For citations, check this. https://eduindex.org/2021/07/03/tamil-at-harvard-university/ Theriyala (talk) 15:41, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop edit warring[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Rasnaboy (talk) 16:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I understand you're efforts in finding sources for the claim. However, please understand that only scholarly sources like peer-reviewed academic research works are considered reliable. Any claims from tabloids, click-bait news reports, politicians, self-claimed researchers, self-published works, etc. (there are many in the list) are not to be cited as source, even if they are published. Please read what reliable sources are all about. I notice many of the claims that you make are of such nature, which will eventually be reverted. Keeping on reverting will only be considered edit warring here on Wikipedia. Also please discuss your claims on the article's talk page before adding them to the article so that other experienced editors could participate in the discussion. Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 16:40, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks for your suggestion Theriyala (talk) 16:47, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New additions[edit]

Hi. I appreciate your additions, but many of them as I see are from poor, borderline sources, which will be reverted by other users and reviewers. Some additions don't even make sense (e.g., [1]). Please read WP:RS to know more about reliable sources. For practicing, please use your user sandbox, and discuss all new additions on the article's talk page with the sources so that experienced editors could review and help you add the new ones. Also, the last good version implies last accepted version, not the one we think is good. Reverting more than once will be considered edit warring which would lead to sanctions from the admins. You can go through the links in the welcome message (the very first message on this talk page) to learn more about editing in Wikipedia. If you need any assistance, please ping any of us and we'll be happy to help you. Cheers. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:01, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

More unsourced[edit]

Please show where [2] states that the IVC inhabitants "moved down south" per your recent edit, and the source for "dated 5th century BC" (which if sourced should have read BCE like the rest of the article and the Tamil name " ''Thisan dated 6th century BC'' - odd Tamil name.[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tamil_inscriptions&diff=prev&oldid=1138910741]

Referred to this research article published by researches from Harvard University regarding the Indus periphery line mixing with AASI people. Theriyala (talk) 15:49, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So you added material to currently cited material because you thought another source not discussing the IVC people backed it. First you can't do that, your text was still unsourced as you used the current source, secondly neither source says that specifically, and your source is discussing IVC peripheral people. You aren't helping yourself here I'm afraid. Doug Weller talk 16:15, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Tamil cuisine, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Not only are there no sources for this contribution, it is written in a very difficult-to-read manner because of overcapitalisation of food names (which should not ever be capitalised except to the extent they include the proper name of a person or place). What are you trying to communicate here? Please discuss at Talk:Tamil cuisine, not here and not at my talk page. Thanks. Julietdeltalima (talk) 14:14, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, Arjayay, Theriyala did provide a source, but only in the edit summary [4]. Theriyala, sources should go right in the article, see WP:REFBEGIN for help with that. The particular source you cited here, however, is probably not reliable enough. It also seems to count Sri Lankan Tamils among the diaspora, which is probably the reason why it gives a population figure that's 3 million higher. – Uanfala (talk) 14:33, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Uanfala, that edit summary was to an entirely different article, Tamil diaspora, whereas my warning was about the addition to Tamil language, which had no such source, even in the edit summary. - Arjayay (talk) 14:40, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm from Madurai. So I know the pronunciationof th word.in Wikipedia it's wrongly written
. So who you're to tell if my edit is wrong. Theriyala (talk) 03:38, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but on Wikipedia we don't care what editors know. See WP:NOR. We only care about reliable sources per WP:VERIFY. I also note that you didn't respond to my post above "You didn't explain your deletion of sourced text at Harappan language". Please respond to that now. I'm not convinced you are able to edit according to our policies and guidelines. Doug Weller talk 08:02, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You people think you are the masters and others don't know alphabets. Even we use reliable sources but you people are biased. Theriyala (talk) 11:06, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And for deletion of Harappan language, i just updated the research article published on a world known Nature magazine paper about proto dravidian to one among the languages spoken in Harappa based on the tooth reconstruction Theriyala (talk) 11:08, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
