Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Thetaphi", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Sdrqaz (talk) 13:22, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have this username since about 10 years on Wikipedia. It is well known as I am member of Apache Software foundation. Thetaphi (talk) 23:11, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you still think it's not a valid username, please give me a suggestion how to fix it without loosing prior edits.
About your revert of my change to [Pixel 5] edits: please think about it again. It was not meant to be advertising of my homepage. It is a blog article written by me, yes, but as a you may have seen that I am well known member of the open source community, you should trust me that the information I brought is valid. I can confirm this with replies by Google support in private Mails.
If you want to remove the link to my blog post, I can rewrite the original sentences and copy essential parts about the problem to the wiki page.
Just reverting posts without contacting a person is a bad behaviour. I will stop bringing new stuff to Wikipedia, because your habit is bad for people who want to help. Thetaphi (talk) 23:23, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
After checking the username policy, I see no problems with my username. I use it everywhere on internet to refer to myself. It's my personal Pseudonyme there's no conflict with product names. It's just me. Thetaphi (talk) 23:42, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your desire to help, but given that you added a link to your blog, it felt like self-promotion. As stated at the username policy, usernames that only contain the names of websites are not allowed. Changing your username will not mean you lose the edits you have made: as I stated above, you can request a change at Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Your username is a bit of an edge case (given that there's only one contributor to the website, I guess), so that's why I posted here instead of at the board for administrator attention. As for citing yourself, since your blog is a self-published source,

Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications.

I'm not terribly familiar with your work so cannot comment on whether you fulfil that requirement. However, I'd advise using reliable sources to back up your information instead. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:38, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The name of the website is my private website, it's neither commercial not any brand. If my username would be uweschindler (my real name) and my website would be uweschindler.de this is not different. So the rule "a username may not be a website name" makes no sense. So I won't change my username.
The username ist existing since 2007 when you look at my contribution history (English, German).
In regard to the change of Pixel page: I will try another one without sources. BTW: the other sources listed in this section that are far from being reliable sources. About the issue with the phone, I can - except my own blog, which is a summary - list only other "unreliable" sources like Reddit or Google Forums. The issue is shown a hundred of times on reddit; in my blog post I just collected all information, I found on net and own investigation. Thetaphi (talk) 06:48, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I added a note to Talk:Pixel 5 for discussion. I also added personal information to my User:Thetaphi page. I hope that fits to explain my username. Thetaphi (talk) 08:10, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with @Sdrqaz: regarding citing yourself being a bit of a sticky situation, but am going to say "good enough for me" on the username front and decline the report as reviewing administrator. That isn't to say (nor imply) that Sdrqaz was out of line -- the tag was good -- I am just satisfied with the explanation provided. TheSandDoctor Talk 15:37, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for confirmation. I did not change my username in the meantime and no one else complained. So let's close this issue. Thetaphi (talk) 17:24, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
