For the article Antonio Sanchez (Puerto Rican host) , you could add links to web pages, bibliography, etc...

--Francisco Valverde 23:19, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

You tagged this image as {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}, but the source you provided doesn't say anything about this license, and actually does say: "Prohibida su reproducción total o parcial sin previo consentimiento de su titular"(google translation: "Prohibited its total or partial reproduction without previous consent of its holder.") Unless you are the person who took this photo, it's not legal to be used on Wikipedia. I look forward to your response. JesseW, the juggling janitor 11:09, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Sports photos[edit]

Hi,

Please stop uploading sports photos. They don't qualify as fair use. Tempshill 21:13, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. This is indeed an area of confusion, because there's no single US law that rigorously defines what is and is not a fair use - it has been defined by a number of court decisions.
1. To get it out of the way, of course Wikipedia far prefers GFDL, CC, or public domain images to fair use images. Whenever there is a GFDL, CC, or PD image that can be used as an alternative to a fair use image, then it should be used - even if it's worse than the fair use image.
2. Under Wikipedia:Fair use#General, there are four factors to consider whether a particular usage of a photo is a fair use. Points 3 and 4 are a problem for sports photos. When a photographer from Sports Illustrated photographs Michael Jordan, that's copyrighted to SI, and they expect to make money from the photo by publishing it in their magazine. By uploading it to Wikipedia, you're providing a free alternative, so you are in fact damaging the value of the photo to SI. This alone makes it not really a fair use.
3. See the last bullet in Wikipedia:Fair use#Counterexamples about the photo from the press agency. Same would apply to a photo from a newspaper, ESPN, whoever.
Now, on the other hand, if the athlete releases a photo of himself for publicity, then you could upload it as a fair use with the "promotional" tag, as those are considered to be a fair use. Unfortunately "publicity" photos are often just head-shots and not action shots.
Thanks, and drop me another note if you have any questions. Tempshill 18:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Meryl-streep.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Meryl-streep.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

Re:WikiProject Puerto Rico Collaboration[edit]

Hi Thief. I have begun a collaboration of the month for the Puerto Rico Wikiproject. The collaboration is Accentuation. I have created a template and a subpage for it. Please tell me what you think about all this. Joelito 22:40, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Mameyes Disaster[edit]

Just to let you know, that article is being merged with the tropical cyclone that caused the disaster. Unfortunately, I can only add what I have found sources for, so a few sections might get removed. The only way I will add them into the article is if you find sources for them. The article has been redirected, so if you want to see what you wrote that is unsourced, go here. Hurricanehink 16:25, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged the above image as a promotional image, but it is instead an image taken by a fan, published on their website with a copyright notice. We have no Wikipedia:Fair use claim here. I'm afraid that the image will have to be deleted. See Wikipedia:Publicity photos for more information on what promotional photos are. Please review any other image uploads to determine whether or not they are also problematic. If you find images on the web that you think would make good additions to articles, please consider contacting their creators and asking them to release them under a free license. Thanks for understanding. Jkelly 05:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is great news that the photographer has agreed to release the image under a free license. The thing to do is to send a copy of the email stating such a release to "permissions at wikimedia dot org" where it will be archived. Let me know if you have any other questions, and best of luck. License tagging for Image:Toabaja leper.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Toabaja leper.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Hi Thief12. You uploaded the above image. As you incorrectly tagged this image as a 'promotional photo' when you uploaded (when it came from here) it has now been deleted. List of Puerto Ricans[edit]

One of the main concerns about the "list" is that it is getting out of control and that many names of people who have only had their "15 minutes of fame" or simply are non-notables are being added. I propose that we set up guidelines as to who should be admitted with a clear definition as to the terms "notable" and "fame". I am calling upon the parties interested to express their opinion and to help develope these guidelines. I believe that after we take a vote and reach a censensus, said guidelines should be followed and posted either on the article or the articles talk page. We need your help. Petra stuff[edit]

Hey, regarding the Petra article and the rare songs: I have an MP3 copy of "Rocking on with Jesus" from the 1970s. It was played at the 2004 reunion concert in Angola, IN, also. John DeGroff wrote a message in the Petra Zone where he mentioned the song was written by Greg Hough and would be re-recorded for a GHF album. I'm not sure the best way to cite this info for the article.

Regarding "It's A New Day": it was recorded and appeared on several record companies' websites in the J&H track list because the song was cut from the set list late in the process. You can still find it on some sites right now.

Unspecified source for Image:Manute-bol-news.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Manute-bol-news.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article [[Southern Tracks (Third Day Album)]], suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at [[Talk:Third Day]]. Image:Dcooksey.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcooksey.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image:ElMorro2.JPG listed for deletion[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:ElMorro2.JPG has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it, but use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 08:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lydie-denier.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 19:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. This also applies to Image:Marlon F.jpg, Image:Patricia.jpg, and any other non-free replaceable images of people you may have uploaded. – Quadell (talk) (random) 21:23, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Chayanne.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Chayanne.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 07:38, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Untagged image[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Florida esc.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 12:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
